Fish Sticks Rally in Fourth to Surprise Caucasians 3-2

Joey catches a fly ball over his shoulder in a 3-2 Fish Sticks win

Joey scattered four hits and two runs in a win on the mound, and hit the go-ahead two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning to carry the Fish Sticks past the Caucasian Vaginas 3-2.

The Caucasians sent their ace Guthrie to the mound to duel against Joey and both pitchers got off to good starts. Joey retired Morrison and Guthrie in order in the top of the first, and Guthrie did the same in the bottom half of the inning, retiring Dinger and Joey to keep the game scoreless.

Jones led off the top of the second with a double for the Caucasians, and couldn’t advance on a Higgins fly out. With one out, Morrison singled, and Jones scored from second to put the Vaginas up 1-0. Joey retired Guthrie, stranding Morrison at first, and ending the threat.

Guthrie retired Blose and Vassallo in order in the bottom of the second, maintaining the 1-0 Caucasian lead.

Jones flew out to the pitcher’s mound to start the top of the third, but Higgins followed with a solo blast, pushing the Vaginas’ lead to 2-0. Morrison grounded out to left field to end the inning.

Down two runs, Dinger led off the bottom of the third with a solo homer, cutting the deficit in half. After Joey flied out to the mound, Blose doubled with one out, but was stranded at second as Vassallo also flew out to the mound for the second out of the inning.

Heading into the fourth, the score was 2-1. Joey found his rhythm on the mound, retiring both Caucasian batters in order. The Caucasians only managed one hit the rest of the game.

Dinger led off the bottom of the fourth with a single, and down a run, Joey belted a two-run home run for his first hit of the week, putting the Fish Sticks ahead 3-2. With no outs, Blose singled to extend the rally. But the Sticks couldn’t add an insurance run, as Vassallo grounded into a double play, ending the fourth.

Higgins led off the top of the fifth inning with a double, but it was the Vaginas final hit of the contest. Morrison and Jones were retired in order, stranding the tying run at second.

Guthrie retired Dinger and Joey in the bottom of the fifth, but the Vaginas couldn’t rally in their last at-bat, as Joey retired Morrison and Guthrie to end the game, giving the Fish Sticks the 3-2 victory.

Game Notes:
– A game after Joey snapped his league record hit streak, Morrison tied the record by hitting safely in his 14th consecutive game
– Higgins had 2 of the 3 Caucasian hits, leading the Vaginas going 2-4 with a homer, double, and RBI
