2013 EWL Wiffler of the Year Bob delivers the ceremonial first pitch of the 2014 season to EWL commissioner Joey

On the 6th day of May, of the two thousand and fourteenth year following the birth of Christ, in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the sun shone through blue skies as a legion of wifflers gathered for Opening Day of the fourth season of the Ellsworth Wiffleball League.

The season commenced as the best wiffler from 2013, Bob of Questionable Outfit, reared back and delivered a strike for the ceremonial first pitch, as founder and commissioner, Joey, caught the ball behind home plate. Wiffler rejoiced, and the games got underway.

All four teams from 2013; the veteran Cookies & Cream, the rowdy Eastbound & Dahn, the stoic Questionable Outfit, and the young Ham Slams, have returned for the 2014 season.

Cookies & Cream added fuel to their rivalry with Questionable Outfit, who continued to dominate the regular season, as they did in 2013. Eastbound & Dahn played up and down as they always have, and a rag tag, dilapidated squad of Ham Slams struggled to hold their own on the wiffle diamond. But the season kicked off in great fashion, and 9 weeks from now the Wiffle Playoffs will begin, and 3 months from now, a wiffle champion will be throned.

Wiffle on!
