Dinger pitched brilliantly as Cookies & Cream shutout the Ham Slams

Dinger continued his strong 2014 season on the mound, pitching a 4-hit shutout as Cookies & Cream topped the Ham Slams 5-0.

The Slams put Charlie on the mound, and after giving up a leadoff single to Dinger, he escaped the first inning without damage. Dinger answered back in the bottom of the first, retiring the side in order.

Cookies & Cream broke the scoreless tie in the top of the second when Guthrie hit a one-out solo homer to center, and the score was 1-0. Charlie retired the next batter, Dinger, ending the inning.

Dinger continued to roll in the bottom of the second, retiring both Ham Slams batters.

Blose led off the top of the third with a triple and scored when Joey grounded out, putting Cookies & Cream ahead 2-0. Charlie retired Vassallo to avoid further damage.

Steve led off the bottom of the third with a single, but the Ham Slams couldn’t rally, as Dinger retired Charlie and Seth to end the inning.

Cookies & Cream would pull away in the top of the fourth. After Charlie retired Guthrie to start the inning, Dinger singled, and the next batter, Blose, hit a two-run homer, making the score 4-0. Joey followed with a solo shot, and the back-to-back home runs gave Cookies & Cream a 5-0 lead. Charlie retired Vassallo to end the inning, but the damage had been done.

Steve doubled to lead off the bottom of the fourth, but his teammates couldn’t capitalize, as Dinger retired the next two batters to strand the runner and end the inning.

Charlie got back on track in the top of the fifth, retiring the side in order. Steve once again led off the bottom of the fifth with a base hit, but Dinger retired Charlie and Seth to maintain the five-run lead.

Cookies & Cream wouldn’t add to their lead in the top of the sixth, as Charlie retired Blose and Joey to end the inning. For the fourth consecutive inning, Steve led off the bottom of the sixth with a hit, but couldn’t advance past first as Charlie hit into a double play, ending the game.

The win moved Cookies & Cream to 6-3 on the year, and the loss dropped the Slams to 2-7.
