Brian Pitches Five-Hit Shoutout of Cheap Goats to Outduel Christian in 3-0 Jack Shack Win

2 Aug

Brian threw the first shutout of his career and the first shutout in the EWL in 2020, allowing only five hits in a complete game win for Jack Shack

Brian and Christian both delivered outstanding performances on the mound, but Brian and his defense were a little better, as Jack Shack sent Cheap Goats to their third consecutive loss in a 3-0 win. Brian allowed only five hits in the shutout win, and he also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and a two-run homer, the only Jack Shack player with multiple hits. Christian allowed only five hits as well, but Jack Shack scored one in the first and two in the fourth, and it was enough run support for Brian to get the win.

Brian allowed a one-out single to Brett in the top of the first, but he wouldn’t move past first base, as Jordan was retired for the second out, stranding the runner.

Jack Shack would provide all the run support Brian needed in the bottom of the first. Turbo doubled with one out, and Dustin followed with an RBI double, making the score 1-0. Christian retired Doc to strand Dustin at second, ending the inning.

Brian hit a ground rule double with one out in the bottom of the second, but Christian held him, getting Turbo to groundout to center to end the inning.

Cheap Goats were at their most threatening in the top of the third. Brett led off the inning with a double, and he moved from second to third when Jordan followed with a single. With no outs and two runners in scoring position, Cheap Goats had a chance to tie or take the lead, but Brian buckled down. He got Christian to groundout to right, and Dinger to fly out to center, stranding both runners and ending the inning without allowing a run.

Christian rolled through the bottom of the third, sending Dustin and Doc down consecutively.

Jack Shack added a few insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth. Blaine led off the inning with a ground rule double, and Brian provided his own run support with a two-run homer, extending the Jack Shack lead to 3-0. Christian retired Turbo and Dustin to end the inning, but with Brian strong on the mound, Jack Shack had built an insurmountable lead.
