Courtlen’s Walk-Off Homer in First Career Game Caps Cheap Goats Dramatic 4-3 Win Over Jack Shack

Courtlen homered in his first career at-bat and later capped his first ever EWL game with a walk-off solo homer in the bottom of the sixth giving Cheap Goats a 4-3 win over Jack Shack

Playing in the first game of his wiffle career, EWL rookie Courtlen went deep in his first at-bat, and later hit a walk-off solo homer in the bottom of the sixth to give Cheap Goats a 4-3 win in their season opener against Jack Shack. Jon pitched effectively, holding Cheap Goats to four combined hits, and Josh had a triple and two home runs to lead Jack Shack on offense, but Cheap Goats had just enough, and they walked off with a win to start their 2024 campaign.

Christian took the mound for Cheap Goats, and the first batter he faced in the 2024 season, Josh, went deep for a leadoff homer to start the game and Jack Shack season. Christian retired EWL rookie Jacob and Ryan to end the inning, and Jack Shack led 1-0.

Jon started for Jack Shack, and he retired Joey before striking out Christian to end the bottom of the first.

Christian retired Jon and Chris in order in the top of the second, and Jon matched him in the bottom of the second, as the score remained 1-0 through two innings.

Jack Shack extended their lead in the top of the third. Josh led off with a triple, and Jacob followed with an RBI single, scoring Josh, and Jack Shack led 2-0. Christian retired Ryan and Jon to strand Jacob at first, and Cheap Goats trailed by two runs.

Cheap Goats got on the board in the bottom of the third when Courtlen, in his first career at-bat, hit a towering solo homer to right-center. Jon retired Joey and Christian to end the inning, and Cheap Goats had cut the deficit to 2-1.

Christian retired Chris and Josh in order in the top of the fourth, and Jon matched him in the bottom half of the inning, sending Dinger and Daniel down consecutively.

Ryan hit a one-out single in the top of the fifth, and Jon followed with a single, putting two runners on. Christian escaped the jam, however, retiring Chris to strand both runners, ending the inning.

Down 2-1, Cheap Goats rallied in the bottom of the fifth. Joey hit a one-out double, and Christian followed with a two-run bomb to right, giving Cheap Goats their first lead of the game. Jon retired Dinger to end the inning, and Cheap Goats had taken a 3-2 lead.

The lead didn’t last long. Josh led off the top of the sixth with his second homer of the game, a solo shot that tied the score at 3-3. Christian retired Jacob and Ryan to end the inning, and the game was knotted at 3-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

Jon retired Daniel to start the bottom of the sixth, and Jack Shack was an out away from sending the game to extra innings. Courtlen had other ideas, however, and he launched a solo homer to deep right-center, ending the game. His walk-off homer gave Cheap Goats a dramatic 4-3 come-from-behind win.

The win moved Cheap Goats to 1-0 on the season, and the loss dropped Jack Shack to 0-1.
