Shady Characters celebrate after one of Nate’s two homers in their 8-2 victory over Cheap Goats
Nate continued his second-half surge, going 3-5 with a double, two home runs, three runs scored, and four RBI, setting the pace in Shady Characters 8-2 win over Cheap Goats. Tom was in control on the mound, allowing only two runs on seven hits, as Shady Characters moved closer to clinching the 2024 regular season pennant and number one seed in the EWL playoffs.
Christian took the mound for Cheap Goats, and the first batter he faced, Tom, led off the game with a solo homer, putting Shady Characters ahead 1-0. Two batters later, Thomas hit a one-out double, but Christian stranded him, retiring Billy to end the inning.
Tom started for Shady Characters, and the first batter he faced, Joey, led off the bottom of the first with a solo shot, tying the game at 1-1. Two batters later, Christian hit a one-out single, but Tom stranded him, retiring Dinger to end the inning.
Christian struck out Lucas to start the top of the second. Tom hit a one-out double, and Nate followed with a two-run homer to right, giving Shady Characters a 3-1 lead. Christian retired Thomas to end the inning, and Cheap Goats trailed by two runs.
Tom rolled through the bottom of the second, retiring Joey and Courtlen in order.
Christian matched Tom in the top of the third, sending Billy and Lucas down consecutively, and Shady Characters continued to lead by two runs.
Tom cruised once again in the bottom of the third, retiring Christian and Dinger, maintaining a two-run lead.
Christian retired Tom to start the top of the fourth, but Nate followed with his second homer of the game, a solo shot that pushed the Shady Characters lead to 4-1. Christian then retired Thomas to end the inning.
Tom retired Joey to start the bottom of the fourth, and Courtlen followed with a solo homer, cutting the score to 4-2. Tom then retired Christian to end the inning, and Cheap Goats once again trailed by two runs.
Shady Characters opened up a big lead in the top of the fifth. Billy led off with a double and moved to third when Lucas singled, putting runners on the corners. Christian got Tom to ground out to center, but Billy scored on the play, and Shady Characters led 5-2. Nate doubled, scoring Lucas, and the lead was 6-2. Thomas followed with a two-run homer, and Shady Characters had taken a commanding 8-2 lead. Billy tripled, but Christian avoided further damage, retiring Lucas to strand the runner, ending the inning.
Tom retired Dinger and Joey in order in the bottom of the fifth, and the Shady Characters lead remained at six runs.
Christian retired Tom and Nate in order in the top of the sixth, and Cheap Goats would need six runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Courtlen singled to start the bottom of the sixth, and he moved from first to third when Christian singled. Dinger also singled, loading the bases with no outs. Cheap Goats were threatening to rally, but Tom buckled down. He retired Joey and Courtlen, stranding all three runners, ending the inning and the game, and giving Shady Characters an 8-2 victory.
The win moved Shady Characters to 12-7 on the season, and the loss dropped Cheap Goats to 7-12.
