Jon’s solo homer in the bottom of the first proved to be the game-winning hit as Jack Shack won a defensive struggle with Guac Boys in game three, moving a win away from taking the series
In a game eerily similar to game two, Jack Shack took a 2-1 series lead over Guac Boys with a 3-2 win in game three in which every run of the game was scored in the first inning. For the second consecutive game, Jack Shack only allowed Guac Boys to score in the first inning and pitched five consecutive shutout innings to close out the game. Similar to game two, when Jack Shack stranded Guac Boys’ final eight baserunners, in game three, they stranded Guac Boys’ final seven baserunners. Across both games, Guac Boys only plated three of eighteen baserunners, and Jack Shack moved to one win away from pulling off a first round upset and advancing to the Wiffle Series.
Jon M, who missed games one and two of the series, started on the mound for Jack Shack. The first batter he faced, Alec, singled. Bohn followed with a double, putting two runners in scoring position with no outs. Jon M got Jude to fly out to deep center, and Alec tagged and scored on the play, putting Guac Boys ahead 1-0. Bohn continued to hold his own in the pitcher’s duel, retiring Ryan and Jon D in order in the bottom of the fifth.
Guac Boys trailed 3-1 heading into the top of the sixth. Jon D retired Form to start the inning, and Tone followed with a one-out single. Jan also singled, putting two runners on, including the tying run on first. The rally would end there, however, as Jon M retired Alec to strand both runners, the sixth and seventh consecutive Guac Boys’ base runners to be stranded, ending the inning and the game, giving Jack Shack a 3-1 win in game three.
With the win, Jack Shack took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five first round series, one win away from advancing to the Wiffle Series.
