Christian Pitches Gem and Hits Game-Winning Homer in Cheap Goats 2-1 Victory Over Shady Characters

Christian was dominant on the mound, allowing only one run on four hits while striking out three, and his solo homer in the sixth inning was the decisive run in a 2-1 Cheap Goats win

Christian pitched a complete game win, allowing only one run on five hits, and he hit the game-winning homer in the top of the sixth, as Cheap Goats beat Shady Characters 2-1. Dinger also hit a solo homer earlier in the game, as Cheap Goats clinched the #2 seed in the 2023 EWL playoffs.

Tom started on the mound for Shady Characters, and he cruised through the top of the first, retiring Joey and Christian in order.

Christian started for Cheap Goats, and the first batter he faced, Nate, hit a solo homer to deep right-center, putting Shady Characters ahead 1-0. Christian retired the next two batters, Tom and Lucas, to end the inning.

Nate led Shady Characters in the loss, going 4-for-5 with three singles, a home run, a run scored and an RBI

Tom continued to pitch effectively in the top of the second, retiring Dinger and striking out Donut Man, who was filling a roster spot for a depleted Cheap Goats lineup.

Christian retired Josh Donut, who was also filling a spot for Shady Characters, before allowing a one-out single to Nate. Christian stranded him, however, retiring Tom to end the inning.

Tom once again rolled in the top of the third, retiring Joey and Christian in order, and he had retired the first six batters he had faced.

Christian matched him in the bottom of the third, sending Lucas down before striking out Josh Donut for the second out of the inning.

Cheap Goats got on the board in the top of fourth when Dinger led off with a solo homer, tying the game at 1-1. Two batters later, Joey hit a one-out double, but Tom stranded him, retiring Christian to end the inning.

Nate singled to start the bottom of the fourth, but Shady Characters couldn’t advance him. Christian retired Tom and Lucas to strand Nate at first, and the game remained tied 1-1.

The pitcher’s duel continued in the top of the fifth as Tom retired Dinger and Donut Man in order.

Christian struck out Josh Donut to start the bottom of the fifth. Nate followed with a single, and he moved from first to third when Tom followed with a single. The go-ahead runner was in scoring position, but Christian buckled down, retiring Lucas to strand both runners, ending the inning.

Tom retired Joey to start the top of the sixth. The next batter, Christian, hit a solo homer to deep right field, putting Cheap Goats ahead for the first time in the game. Dinger followed with a double, but Tom retired Donut Man to strand him at second, and Shady Characters trailed 2-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

Christian remained on the mound to close things out for Cheap Goats, and he made quick work of Shady Characters. He struck out Josh Donut and retired Nate for the first time in the game, ending the inning and the game and giving Cheap Goats a 2-1 victory.

The win moved Cheap Goats to 10-9 on the season, and the loss dropped Shady Characters to 13-6.

Joey of Cheap Goats Named Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week

Joey’s continued his record-setting 2023 season with another big week in week 9, leading Cheap Goats to two victories and into the driver’s seat for second place in the 2023 EWL standings. After compiling eight more extra-base hits and ten more RBI, he was voted Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week for the second consecutive week.

In a 10-9 win over Shady Characters, Joey went 3-for-5 with three home runs, four runs scored, seven RBI, and an intentional walk.

In a 9-5 win over Jack Shack, he went 5-for-6 with four doubles, a home run, three runs scored, and three RBI.

In total, Joey went 8-for-11 with four doubles, four home runs, seven runs scored, ten RBI, and an intentional walk in week 9.

This is the seventeenth time in Joey’s career that he has been voted Wiffler of the Week, the third time in the last four weeks, and the second consecutive week he has received the honor. Joey has now won Wiffler of the Week in consecutive weeks twice in his career (2020 and 2023) and has won Wiffler of the Week three times in one season twice in his career (2019 and 2023).

Cheap Goats Pull Away Late to Beat Jack Shack 9-5

Joey led Cheap Goats to a 9-5 win over Jack Shack, going 5-for-6 with four doubles, a home run, three runs scored, and three RBI.

Joey and Miller combined to go 9-for-12 with seven doubles and two homers as Cheap Goats broke a 5-5 tie in the fourth to pull away and beat Jack Shack 9-5. Joey’s three-run homer gave Cheap Goats a four-run lead, and Dinger and Christian combined on the mound to give Cheap Goats the win and a boost toward finishing in second place in the EWL season standings.

Dinger started for Cheap Goats, and he retired Jack Shack in order in the top of the first, sending Ryan and Jon down consecutively.

Jon took the mound for Jack Shack, and after allowing a leadoff double to Joey, he retired Miller and Christian to strand the runner at second, ending the inning.

Jack Shack got on the board in the top of the second. Dinger retired Jared to start the inning, but Josh followed with a solo homer, giving Jack Shack a 1-0 lead. Dinger then retired Ryan for the second out of the inning.

Cheap Goats evened up the score in the bottom of the first. Joey hit a one-out double, and Miller drove him in with an RBI double, tying the score at 1-1. Jon retired Christian for the second out, stranding Miller at second.

Josh then doubled, and Ryan drove him in with an RBI double, extending the Jack Shack lead to 4-1. Dinger retired Jon and Jared to strand Ryan at second, ending the inning, and Jack Shack had taken a three-run lead.

Jon rolled through the bottom of the third, retiring Dinger and Joey consecutively.

Two batters later, Dinger hit a one-out single, and Joey followed with a double, putting runners on second and third with one out. Miller cleared the bases with an RBI double, and the Jack Shack lead had been reduced to 5-4. Christian followed with an RBI double, tying the game at 5-5. Jon struck out Dinger for the second out of the inning, and Cheap Goats had even the game at 4-4 through four innings.

Miller then doubled, and Christian drove him in with an RBI single, putting Cheap Goats ahead 6-5. Dinger then doubled, moving Christian to third, and Cheap Goats had runners on the corners with one out. Joey unloaded a blast to left, and his three-run shot gave Cheap Goats a 9-5 lead. Jon retired Miller for the second out of the inning, and Cheap Goats led by four runs heading into the sixth.

Christian earned the win for Cheap Goats, pitching two perfect innings of relief to close out the game, and he went 2-for-5 with a single, a double, and two RBI.

Jack Shack was unable to rally in the sixth, and the late Cheap Goats offense explosion left them stunned. Christian retired Jon and Jared in order in the top of the sixth, ending the inning and the game, and giving Cheap Goats a 9-5 win.

The win moved Cheap Goats to 9-9 on the season, and the loss dropped Jack Shack to 5-13.

Jack Shack Erupts in 15-6 Rout of Guac Boys

Jon and Jared combined for four home runs and eight extra-base hits as Jack Shack rolled past the Guac Boys 15-6

Despite struggling to find consistent offense throughout the 2023 season, Jack Shack dialed it in against the Guac Boys in week 9, taking an early 15-4 lead and eventually winning 15-6. All four Jack Shack players went deep, and Josh, Jared, and Jon each went deep twice.

Jared took the mound for Jack Shack, and he got into trouble early. He retired the first batter he faced, Jude, and then the Guac Boys got out their bats. Tone, Bohn, and Alec each hit one-out solo homers, and the back-to-back-to-back homers put the Guac Boys ahead 3-0. Jude followed the home run barrage with a one-out triple, but Jared stranded him, retiring Tone to end the inning.

Jack Shack immediately bounced back in the bottom of the first. Alec, Guac Boys’ starter, retired Josh to start the inning, but the next batter, Jared, hit a solo homer. Jon followed with a solo shot, and the back-to-back homers cut the score to 3-2. Ryan singled, and Josh followed with a two-run blast, putting Jack Shack in front 4-3. Alec retired Jared to end the inning, and the Guac Boys were down a run after one inning.

Bohn led off the top of the second with a solo homer, his second of the game, which tied the score at 4-4. Jared retired the next two batters, Alec and Jude, to end the inning.

Jon led off the inning with a solo homer, his second in as many at-bats, putting Jack Shack back on top 5-4. Ryan singled, and he moved from first to third when Josh followed with a single. Jared doubled, scoring Ryan, and Jack Shack led 6-4. Jon singled, scoring Josh, pushing Jack Shack’s lead to 7-4. Ryan came to the plate with no outs and two runners on, and he cleared the bases, hitting a three-run homer that extended the Jack Shack lead to 10-4. Josh made it back-to-back homers with his second bomb of the game, and Jack Shack’s lead was 11-4. Two batters later, Jon hit a one-out double, but Jack Shack’s monster inning would end there. Alec retired Ryan to strand Jon at second, and Jack Shack had scored seven runs in the bottom of the second to take a seven run lead.

Jon doubled, and he moved to third when Ryan followed with a single. Josh came to the plate one out and runners on first and third, and he hit an RBI double, scoring Jon and moving Ryan to third. Jared then cleared the bases with an RBI double, and Jack Shack led 15-4. Alec finally escaped the inning, retiring Jon for the second out, and Jack Shack had taken an eleven run lead.

Tone hit a one-out solo homer in the top of the fourth, cutting the score to 15-5. Jared then retired Bohn for the second out, ending the inning.

Miller connects on a three-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the sixth, his only hit of the game, but a decisive one that gave Cheap Goats a 10-9 victory over Shady Characters

Cheap Goats and Shady Characters went back and forth for six innings, and Shady Characters entered the bottom of the sixth with a two-run lead before Cheap Goats rallied, culminating in Miller’s three-run walk-off homer to seal the victory. It was Miller’s only hit in the game, but it was the decisive one, completing Cheap Goats’ rally of six unanswered runs to win. Joey had three homers and seven RBI in the win, and Christian pitched a complete game win on the mound.

Christian started for Cheap Goats, and he allowed a leadoff triple to Dylan. Christian retired Nate for the first out of the inning, but Dylan scored on the play, putting Shady Characters ahead 1-0. Christian then retired Tom to end the inning.

Tom took the mound for Shady Characters, and the first batter he faced, Joey, led off the game with a solo homer, tying the score at 1-1. Shady Characters intentionally walked him, putting the winning run on first base. The move did not pay off. The next batter, Miller, crushed a three-run bomb to left, a walk-off homer that gave Cheap Goats a dramatic 10-9 win.

The win moved Cheap Goats to 8-9, and the loss dropped Shady Characters to 13-5.
