Nate of Shady Characters Voted Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week

Just hours after being signed by Shady Characters as a last minute free agent replacement, Nate, veteran of Eastbound & Dahn and Loss Mitigation, had one of the best weeks of his career and was voted PBR Wiffler of the Week for week 2 of the 2021 season.

In a loss to Cheap Goats, Nate went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, and a run scored, leading Shady Characters on offense.

In the second game of week 2, he propelled Shady Characters to a blowout win over Guacamol-yay, going 7-for-9 with three singles, two doubles, a triple, a home run, five runs scored, four RBI, and he hit for the cycle for the fifth time in his EWL career.

The EWL may see more of Nate throughout the 2021 season, or this may be his only appearance. Either way, he made his presence felt, winning Wiffler of the Week for the fourth time in his EWL career.

Shady Characters Destroy Guacamol-yay 20-8 with Historic Offensive Performance

Shady Characters erupted for twenty runs on twenty-five hits in a thorough demolition of Guacamol-yay, moving to 3-1 on the season with a 20-8 victory. Tom had a career game with five extra-base hits and eight RBI, Mike contributed six hits and was intentionally walked, and free agent acquisition Nate had seven hits, hitting for the cycle.

Josh K started for Guacamol-yay, and he fell behind in the first inning. Mike doubled with one out, and Tom drove him in with an RBI single. Josh K retired Nate to end the inning, and Shady Characters led 1-0.

Guacamol-yay bounced back in the bottom of the first, taking the lead. Tom, Shady Characters’ starter, allowed a leadoff single to Alec. Two batters later, Kyle hit a two-run homer, putting Guacamol-yay in front 2-1. Tom then retired Ryan to end the inning.

Down a run, Shady Characters took the lead again in the top of the second, and they never looked back. Dylan led off the inning with a double, and Mike followed with an RBI double, tying the game at 2-2. Tom then doubled, scoring Mike to put Shady Characters in front 3-2. Nate hit the fourth consecutive double for Shady Characters, moving Tom to third to put two runners in scoring position with no outs. Dylan followed with a sacrifice fly, scoring Tom to make the score 4-2. Mike then singled, scoring Nate, and Shady Characters led 5-2. Tom hit his second double of the inning, scoring Mike, and the lead was 6-2. Nate then cleared the bases with a two-run bomb, and Shady Characters led 8-2. Josh K finally escaped the disastrous inning, retiring Dylan for the second out.

Tom allowed a one-out single to Alec in the bottom of the second, but fanned Josh K for the second out, stranding the runner at second.

Guacamol-yay made a call to the bullpen in the top of the third, bringing Alec to the mound. Initially, it worked, as he retired Mike and Tom in order to end the inning.

Shady Characters also turned to their bullpen in the third, bringing Dylan to the mound to relieve Tom. With one out, Ryan hit a solo homer to left-center, cutting the deficit to 8-3. Dylan then retired Jude to end the inning.

Up five runs, Shady Characters scored a few more in the top of the fourth. Dylan singled with one out, and Mike drove him in with a two-run homer, extending the Shady Characters lead to 10-3. Tom followed with a single, and he moved from first to third when Nate doubled. Shady Characters had two runners in scoring position with one out, but Alec escaped the jam, retiring Dylan to strand both runners, ending the inning.

Guacamol-yay continued to show life in the bottom of the fourth. Alec singled, and he moved from first to third when Josh K followed with a double. Kyle then singled, loading the bases with no outs. Ryan came to the plate having homered in his previous at-bat, but he couldn’t double up with a grand slam. He grounded out to left for the first out of the inning, but Alec scored on the play, making the score 10-4. Jude then singled, scoring Josh K, and the score was 10-5. Dylan got out of the inning by retiring Alec for the second out, and Shady Characters led by five runs.

Shady Characters blew the game open in the top of the fifth. Alec retired Mike for the first out of the inning, and then it got ugly. Tom hit a solo homer, making the score 11-5. Nate followed with a single, and Dylan also singled, putting runners on first and second with one out. Guacamol-yay intentionally walked Mike to load the bases with Tom coming to the plate. This exact sequence of events had worked for Cheap Goats in the previous game, but given a second opportunity, Tom made his opponents pay. He hit an RBI double, clearing the bases to score all three runs, and Shady Characters led 14-5. Nate then singled for the second time in the inning, scoring Tom from second, and the score was 15-5. Dylan also singled, putting runners on first and third with one out. Mike singled, scoring Nate to put Shady Characters in front 16-5. Dylan was caught in between second and third on the play, ending the inning, but Shady Characters had scored six runs to take an eleven run lead.

Josh K doubled to start the bottom of the fifth, and two batters later, Ryan hit an RBI triple to cut the Shady Characters lead to ten runs at 16-6. Dylan then retired Jude to end the inning.

Shady Characters weren’t finished yet, and they pushed their run total to twenty in the top of the sixth. Tom led off the inning with a solo homer, his second of the game, making the score 17-6. Nate then tripled, completing the cycle. Dylan then cleared the bases with a two-run homer to right-center, putting Shady Characters ahead 19-6. Mike doubled for the third time in the game, and two batters later, Nate hit an RBI single, scoring Mike and giving Shady Characters a 20-6 lead. Alec finally closed out another rough inning by getting Dylan to fly out to the mound for the second out.

Down fourteen runs, Guacamol-yay would need a legendary rally in the bottom of the sixth. Dylan remained on the mound to close things out, and he allowed a leadoff single to Alec. Josh K followed with a two-run homer, making the score 20-8. Guacamol-yay showed some spunk, but the comeback effort would end there. Dylan retired Kyle and Ryan to end the inning and the game, giving Shady Characters a twelve run victory.

The win moved Shady Characters to 3-1 on the season, one game out of first place. Guacamol-yay remained winless for the 2021 season, dropping to 0-4.

Dinger Pitches Gem as Cheap Goats Remain Undefeated with 4-1 Win Over Jack Shack

Joey and Miller continued to hit well for Cheap Goats, and Dinger turned in a second consecutive strong start on the mound, as Cheap Goats moved to 4-0 on the season after defeating Jack Shack 4-1.

Dinger rolled through the top of the first, retiring Brian and Turbo in order, and he would get all of the run support he would need in the bottom half of the inning.

Brett led off with a solo homer, and Cheap Goats had a 1-0 lead. Joey singled, but was caught trying to extend the hit into a double for the first out of the inning. Miller followed with a solo homer, and Cheap Goats led 2-0. Jack Shack’s starter, Josh D, then retired Christian to end the inning.

Dinger once again cruised in the top of the second, retiring Adam and Josh D consecutively.

Dinger led off the bottom of the second with a single, but when Brett flew out for the first out of the inning, Dinger was doubled up on the play, ending the inning.

Doc led off the top of the third with a double, Jack Shack’s first hit of the game. Jack Shack couldn’t cut into the Cheap Goats lead, however, as Dinger retired Brian and Turbo to strand Doc at second, ending the inning.

Miller singled with one out in the bottom of the third, but Josh D fanned Christian to end the inning, stranding Miller at first.

Adam singled to lead off the top of the fourth for Jack Shack, but Dinger stranded another runner, retiring Josh D and Doc, ending the inning.

Josh D retired Cheap Goats in order in the bottom of the fourth, sending Dinger and Brett down consecutively.

Jack Shack got on the board in the top of the fifth. Brian doubled to start the inning, and two batters later, Adam hit an RBI single to center, scoring Brian to cut the deficit in half at 2-1. Jack Shack couldn’t tie things up, as Dinger retired Josh D to strand Adam at second, ending the inning.

Cheap Goats pulled further ahead in the bottom of the fifth, adding some insurance runs. Joey stared the inning with a double, and Jack Shack elected to walk the next batter, Miller, putting two runners on with no outs. Christian then singled, but no runs scored on the play, leaving the bases loaded for Dinger. Dinger grounded out for the first out of the inning, but two runs scored on the play, putting Cheap Goats ahead 4-1. Josh D then retired Brett for the second out of the inning.

Dinger remained on the mound to close things out for Cheap Goats in the sixth. He allowed a one-out single to Brian, but Jack Shack never threatened, as Turbo flew out to center for the second out of the inning. Cheap Goats had defeated Jack Shack for the second time in two weeks, this time by the score of 4-1.

Cheap Goats improved to 4-0 on the season, and Jack Shack dropped to 1-3.

Brett Finds Swing as Cheap Goats Beat Shady Characters 4-3

The 2020 Rookie of the Year, All-EWL team member, and co-Wiffler of the Year went hitless in both of Cheap Goats’ week 1 games, but Brett figured things out in week 2, going 4-for-4, leading his squad to a 4-3 win over Shady Characters.

Christian took the mound for Cheap Goats, and after allowing a leadoff double to Dylan, he stranded the runner, retiring Mike and Tom to end the inning.

Cheap Goats would get Christian some run support in the bottom of the first. Brett led off with a single, and two batters later, Miller hit a two-run homer, giving Cheap Goats a 2-0 lead. Christian followed with a single, but Shady Characters’ starter, Tom, retired Dinger to end the inning.

Shady Characters evened things up in the top of the second. Nate, veteran of Eastbound & Dahn and Loss Mitigation, signed with Shady Characters as a free agent for week 2, and he led off the inning with a tripl. The next batter, Dylan, grounded out to center on the play, but Nate scored, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Mike followed with a solo homer, tying the game at 2-2. Tom then tripled, but Christian avoided further damage, retiring Nate to strand the runner at third, ending the inning.

Cheap Goats got the lead back right away in the bottom of the second. Brett tripled, and Joey drove him in with an RBI triple, putting Cheap Goats in front 3-2. Tom got the next batter, Miller, to ground out to left, but Joey scored on the play, and the score was 4-2. Tom then retired Christian to end the inning.

Christian rolled through the top of the third, sending Dylan and Mike down in order.

Brett singled with one out in the bottom of the third, but Tom retired Joey to strand Brett, and the score remained 4-2.

Nate doubled with one-out in the top of the fourth, but Shady Characters couldn’t cut into the Cheap Goats lead. Christian retired Dylan to strand Nate at second, ending the inning.

Tom cruised through the bottom of the fourth, retiring Miller and Christian in order.

Mike led off the top of the fifth with a triple, and he scored from third when Tom followed with a sacrifice fly to right, making the score 4-3. Brett singled with one out in the bottom of the fifth, but Cheap Goats couldn’t plate an insurance run. Tom retired Joey to strand the runner, and Shady Characters trailed by a run heading into the final inning.

Christian remained on the mound to close things out, and he was quick with it. He retired Nate and Dylan in order, ending the inning and the game, as Cheap Goats held on to win 4-3.

The win moved Cheap Goats to 3-0 on the season, and the loss dropped Shady Characters to 2-1.

Turbo Leads Jack Shack to First Victory of 2021 with 6-3 Win Over Guacamol-yay

Two-time defending champions, Jack Shack, started the season with two losses in week 1, and they would head into week 2 without their former captain, Dustin, who was out due to injury. Turbo picked up the slack, and another former captain, Josh D, found his bat, as Jack Shack picked up their first win of the 2021 season with a 6-3 defeat of Guacamol-yay.

Brian started on the mound for Jack Shack, and after allowing a leadoff single to Alec, making his EWL debut, Josh K grounded out to the mound, and Alec was doubled up on the play, ending the inning.

Jack Shack would take an early lead in the bottom of the first. Brian led off with a single, and Turbo drove him in with a two-run homer, putting Jack Shack ahead 2-0. Two batters later, Josh hit a one-out double, but Jack Shack couldn’t extend the lead, as Guacamol-yay’s starter, Josh K, retired Doc to strand the runner at second, ending the inning.

Brian cruised through the top of the second, retiring Kyle and Ryan in order.

Guacamol-yay showed some life in the top of the third. Jude led off with a double, and he moved to third when Alec singled. With no outs and runners on the corners, Josh K cleared the bases with a towering three-run blast to left. Brian retired the next two batters to end the inning, but Guacamol-yay had cut the deficit to 5-3.

Jack Shack got one back in the bottom of the third. Turbo tripled with one out, and Adam drove him in with his second consecutive RBI double, making the score 6-3. Josh K avoided further damage, retiring Josh D to strand Adam at second, ending the inning.

Brian rolled through the top of the fourth, retiring Jude and Alec in order.

Brian doubled with one out in the bottom of the fourth, but Josh K stranded him, retiring Turbo to end the inning.

Kyle singled with one out in the top of the fifth, but Brian continued to confuse Guacamol-yay hitters, retiring Ryan to strand another runner, and the score remained 6-3.

After four innings, Guacamol-yay turned to the bullpen, bringing Kyle to the mound. He retired Jack Shack in order in the bottom of the fifth.

Brian remained on the mound to close things out for Jack Shack. He allowed a leadoff single to Jude, but Gucamol-yay couldn’t rally. Brian retired Alec and Josh K to strand Jude at first, ending the inning and giving Jack Shack the 6-3 win.

The win moved Jack Shack to 1-2 on the season, and Guacamol-yay remained winless at 0-2.
