Bryan Hits Second Consecutive Walk-Off Inside-the-Park Homer to Lift Jack Shack Past Guacamol-yay 3-2

Bryan made EWL history in week 3, hitting walk-off inside-the-park home runs in consecutive games, giving Jack Shack two improbable wins and moving them within a game of first place in the season standings

Down 2-1 with one out in the bottom of the sixth, Jack Shacked had their backs against the wall when Bryan pulled a rabbit out of his hat for the second game in a row, completing a walk-off inside-the-park home run to give Jack Shack an improbable 3-2 victory over Guacamol-yay. Just one game after hitting a walk-off inside-the-park homer with the score tied in the bottom of the sixth, Bryan repeated the unprecedented feat, driving in two runs, including himself, with his team down by a run to secure another win for Jack Shack. Bryan joined Nate of Eastbound and Dahn as only the second player ever to hit two walk-off home runs in one day.

Josh D started on the mound for Jack Shack, and after allowing a lead-off single to Jan, he retired Josh K and Jude to strand the runner, ending the inning.

Josh D tried to help himself out in the bottom of the first, leading off the inning with a triple. But his opposing pitcher, Josh K, stranded him at third, striking out Adam and retiring Bryan, and the score remained tied at zero.

Guacamol-yay took an early lead in the top of the second. Ben singled and moved to third when Jonah followed with a double. Josh D got Jan to ground out to left for the first out of the inning, but Ben scored from third on the play, and Guacamol-yay led 1-0. Josh K followed with an RBI single, scoring Jonah, and the score was 2-0. Josh D got Jude to ground out to center for the second out of the inning, stranding Josh K, and Guacamol-yay led by two.

Josh K retired the side in order in the bottom of the second, maintaining the two run lead.

Josh D sent Ben and Jonah down consecutively in the top of the third, and Jack Shack would cut into the Guacamol-yay lead in the bottom half of the inning.

Josh D tripled for the second consecutive at-bat to lead off the inning, and he scored on Adam’s sacrifice fly, making the score 2-1. Josh K struck out Bryan to end the inning, and Guacamol-yay led by a run.

Josh D continued to pitch effectively in the top of the fourth, sending Jan and Josh K down in order.

Dustin started the bottom of the fourth with a single. He moved from first to third when Turbo followed with a single, but Turbo was caught out trying to advance the single into a double. Josh D then singled, putting runners on the corners with one out, but Jack Shack couldn’t even the score. Josh K got Adam to fly out to deep center, stranding two runners and ending the inning.

Ben doubled with one out in the top of the fifth, but Guacamol-yay couldn’t plate the runner, as Josh D struck out Jonah to end the inning.

Bryan singled to lead off the bottom of the fifth, but Jack Shack once again failed to tie the game. Josh K retired Dustin and Turbo to end the inning, and Guacamol-yay held on to a 2-1 lead.

Josh K remained in the game to close things out for Guacamol-yay, and he retired Josh D for the first out in the bottom of the sixth. Down to their last out, Jack Shack held on to hope when Adam singled, putting the tying runner on base. Bryan came to the plate, in a very similar circumstance to Jack Shack’s previous game. Just one game earlier, Bryan hit a walk-off inside-the-park homer with one out in a tied game in the bottom of the sixth, giving Jack Shack a win over Shady Characters. One game later, Bryan broke hearts again, this time, Guacamol-yay’s. He put the ball in play, and after a series of fielding and throwing errors, he raced around the bases. Adam scored to tie the game at 2-2, and several seconds later, Bryan came across home plate to complete the inside-the-park homer, a two-run walk-off home run that gave Jack Shack an unbelievable 3-2 win.

The win moved Jack Shack to 4-2 on the season, one game back of Cheap Goats in the standings. Guacamol-yay fell to 1-5 with the loss.

Jordan and Joey Lead Late Charge as Cheap Goats Beat Guacamol-yay 4-2

Jordan and Joey combined to go eight-for-eight with six extra-base hits in Cheap Goats 4-2 win over Guacamol-yay

Jordan and Joey combined to go a perfect eight-for-eight at the top of the Cheap Goats lineup, and contributed eight of Cheap Goats’ nine hits in a 4-2 win over Guacamol-yay. Christian pitched the complete game win, allowing only two runs on six hits, and with the win, Cheap Goats remained undefeated at 5-0.

Jan led off the top of the first with a single for Guacamol-yay, but Christian stranded the runner, retiring Josh and Jude to end the inning.

Cheap Goats jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first. Jordan led off with a triple. Joey then singled, but Jordan couldn’t advance home on the play, leaving runners on first and third with no outs. Dinger then hit a deep fly to center, and Jordan scored on the sacrifice, making the score 1-0. Guacamol-yay’s starter, Jude, then retired Christian to end the inning, and Cheap Goats led by a run.

Guacamol-yay evened things up in the top fo the second. Ben led off with a single, and two batters later, Jan hit an RBI triple, scoring Ben to tie the game at 1-1. Christian retired Josh for the second out of the inning, stranding Jan at third.

Jordan singled with one out in the bottom of the second, but when Joey followed with a double, Jordan was caught off third base for the second out of the inning, stranding both runners.

Dinger singled to lead off the bottom of third, but Jude retired Christian and Dave to escape the inning unscathed, and the score remained tied at 1-1.

Cheap Goats would pull back ahead in the bottom of the fourth. Jordan led off with a triple, and Joey drove him in with an RBI triple that made the score 2-1. Jude then got Dinger to ground out to left for the first out of the inning, but Joey scored from third on the play, and Cheap Goats led 3-1. Jude then retired Christian to end the inning, and Cheap Goats had a two-run lead.

Cheap Goats added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Jordan tripled for the third time in the game, and Joey followed with an RBI double that put Cheap Goats ahead 4-1. Jude retired Dinger to end the inning, stranding Joey at second.

Down three runs in the bottom of the sixth, Guacamol-yay had a small rally. Jan led off the inning with a triple, his second of the game. Josh followed with a fly out in foul territory along the third base line. Jan tagged and scored on the play, cutting the score to 4-2. The rally ended there, however, as Christian struck out Jude for the second out of the inning, ending the game and giving Cheap Goats a 4-2 win.

Cheap Goats moved to 5-0 on the year with the win, and Guacamol-yay fell to 1-4 with the loss.

Josh K of Guacamol-Yay Voted Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week for Week 2

In a quiet week for offense, Josh K of Guacamol-yay was voted the Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week for week 2 of the 2019 EWL season.

Josh went 4-for-5 with three singles, a double, three runs scored, and two RBI, including a three-for-three performance in Guacamol-yay’s first win in franchise history, a 7-4 victory over Shady Characters. Josh also pitched six innings in a losing effort, and recorded eleven combined put-outs in both week 2 games.

As a rookie in only his second week in the league, this is Josh’s first time winning Wiffler of the Week.

Christian and Cheap Goats Blank Guacamol-yay 2-0

Christian threw a two-hit shutout in his first appearance of 2019, keeping the Guacamol-yay bats silent in a 2-0 Cheap Goats win

In his first pitching appearance of the 2019 season, Christian pitched a complete game shutout for Cheap Goats, allowing only two hits and striking out one in a 2-0 victory over Guacamol-yay. Josh K was effective on the mound for Guacamol-yay, but Cheap Goats scored two runs in the top of the fifth after four scoreless innings, and it was enough to secure a win for Cheap Goats, as they remained the only undefeated team in the EWL.

Dave singled to lead off the top of the first for Cheap Goats, but he wouldn’t advance beyond first, as Josh retired Joey and Norris (making his first appearance of the 2019 season) to end the inning.

Christian cruised through the bottom of the first, retiring Adam R and Corey in order.

Josh matched him in the top of the second, sending Christian and Ryan (making his first career EWL appearance) down in order to end the inning.

Josh led off the bottom of the second with a single. Christian struck out Jude, and Allie followed with a single, putting runners on first and second with one out. Guacamol-yay was threatening, but Christian escaped the jam, retiring Jan for the second out of the inning, stranding both runners.

Josh continued to roll in the top of the third, retiring Dave and Joey consecutively. Christian matched him in the bottom of the third, and the game was scoreless through three innings.

Norris doubled for his first hit of 2019 to lead off the top of the fourth, but Cheap Goats couldn’t capitalize. Christian and Ryan were retired, and Josh escaped the inning without damage.

Cheap Goats finally broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fifth. Joey tripled with one out, and Norris followed with an RBI double, scoring Joey to put Cheap Goats ahead 1-0. Christian then hit an RBI single, and Norris scored from second to give Cheap Goats a 2-0 lead. Josh retired Ryan to end the inning, and Guacamol-yay trailed by two runs.

The win moved Cheap Goats to 3-0 on the season, and Guacamol-yay remained winless at 0-3.

Jack Shack Outlasts Guacamol-yay 3-2 in Pitcher’s Duel

Adam R pitched the complete game win for Jack Shack, and he also hit his first home run of the 2019 season in the first inning

Adam R of Jack Shack pitched a complete game win, allowing only two runs despite surrendering ten hits, as Guacamol-yay left runners on base and couldn’t capitalize with runners in scoring position in a 3-2 loss. Josh D and Bryan each contributed two hits for Jack Shack in their first win of the season, and Guacamol-yay finished week one winless.

After pitching in relief in their first game of the season, Josh K started on the mound for Guacamol-yay. He retired Josh D to start the game, but the next batter, Adam R, crushed a solo homer to right-center, putting Jack Shack up 1-0.

Guacamol-yay bounced back in the bottom of the first to tie the game. Adam doubled to lead off, and Cory drove him in with an RBI single, making the score 1-1. Two batters later, Jude singled to put runners on first and second with one out, but Adam R escaped the first of many jams, retiring Ben to strand both runners and end the inning.

Cory doubled with one out in the bottom of the fifth for his fourth hit of the game. Adam R continued to avoid damage, however, retiring Josh K to strand the tying run at second, ending the fifth with the score 3-2.

Tom W’s Bat and Tom K’s Arm Carry Shady Characters to 8-1 Win Over Guacamol-yay

Tom W. started the 2019 season hot, with extra-base hits in his first three at-bats. He went 3-for-5 with a double and two homers to lead Shady Characters to an 8-1 win in their season opener.

In their first game since falling to Loss Mitigation in the 2018 Wiffle Series, Shady Characters dusted off their bats and arms and handed Guacamol-yay a loss in the new squad’s first game as an EWL franchise. Tom W led Shady Characters on offense, going 3-for-5, with two homers a double, and five RBI, and Tom K was dominant on the mount, allowing only one run on three hits in a complete game win.

EWL rookie, Jude, took the mound for Guacamol-yay, and he fell behind early as Shady Characters jumped out to a lead in the top of the first. Joe, also a rookie, led off with a single in his first career at-bat. Two batters later, Tom W hit a towering two-run blast to left, putting Shady Characters up 2-0.

Shady Characters would add to their lead in the top of the second. Mike singled in his first career EWL at-bat, and two batters later, Dylan drove him in with an RBI double that made the score 3-0. Tom W then hit a towering fly that was misplayed, and after several throwing errors, Tom raced around the bases for an inside-the-park two-run homer that extended the Shady Characters lead to 5-0. Tom K singled for his first hit of the 2019 season, but Jude escaped further damage, retiring Mike to end the inning.

Josh singled in his first career at-bat for Guacamol-yay, but his squad couldn’t rally. Tom K retired Jude and Ben in order to strand the runner, ending the second inning.

Shady Characters continued to hit Jude in the top of the third. Joe singled, and two batters later, Tom hit an RBI double, making the score 6-0. Tom K then singled, scoring Tom W from second, and the lead extended to 7-0. Jude retired Mike to end the inning, and it would be the last batter he faced in the game.

Guacamol-yay turned to bullpen by committee in the top of the fourth. Josh made his first career pitching appearance, and after giving up a one-out double to Dylan, he retired Tom W to strand the runner, ending the inning.

Jude got hit hard on the mound and took the loss for Guacamol-yay. He also went 1-for-3 with an RBI double in his first EWL game.

Guacamol-yay threatened and showed signs of life in the bottom of the fourth. Josh singled, and Jude drove him in with an RBI double, putting Guacamol-yay on the board and cutting the score to 7-1. The rally ended there, however, as Tom K retired Ben and Adam to strand Jude, ending the inning.

Cory made his first career pitching appearance in the top of the fifth. He gave up a one-out double to Mike, and Joe drove him in with an RBI double, making the score 8-1. Cory then retired Dylan to end the inning.
