Jan and Josh K Power Guacamol-yay to 9-7 Win Over Shady Characters

Jan went 5-for-6 with a leadoff homer and four extra-base hits to lead Guacamol-yay in their 9-7 win over Shady Characters

Jan and Josh K each went 5-for-6 and homered to lead Guacamol-yay to a 9-7 win over Shady Characters, pulling them to .500 on the season at 2-2. Josh K pitched the complete game, and he got just enough help from his defense to stave off Shady Characters. All four Guacamol-yay players homered in the game, as Shady Characters fell to 1-3.

Josh K got off to a good start in the top of the first, retiring Dylan and Tom K in order.

Guacamol-yay got on the board right away in the bottom of the first, when Jan led off the game with a solo homer. Josh K followed with a double, and he moved to third when Jude singled. Guacamol-yay had runners on the corners with no outs, and it looked like they would blow the game open early, but Shady Characters’ starter, Tom K, escaped the jam. Beau singled, but was caught in between bases on the play, and no runs scored. The next batter, Jan, flew out to right, stranding two runners and ending the inning.

Shady Characters drew even in the top of the second when Mike led off with his first career homer, tying the game at 1-1. Josh K then retired Lucas and fanned Brad to end the inning with the score tied.

Guacamol-yay reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the second when Josh K led off the inning with a solo shot, making the score 2-1. Tom K retired Jude and Beau to end the inning, reaching his innings limit for the week.

Shady Characters pulled ahead in the top of the third. Sam singled to lead off the inning, and after Josh K retired Dylan for the first out, he ran into trouble. Tom K doubled, scoring Sam to tie the game at 2-2. Tom K would move from second to third when Mike followed with a single. With one out and runners on the corners, Lucas singled, scoring Tom K to put Shady Characters ahead 3-2. Brad then singled, scoring Mike from second, and Shady Characters led 4-2. Sam singled for the second time in the inning, scoring Lucas and extending the Shady Characters lead to 5-2. After allowing four runs, Josh K avoided further damage, retiring Dylan to end the inning with Guacamol-yay down two.

Dylan took over for Tom K on the mound, and Guacamol-yay bounced back in a big way in the bottom of the third. Jan tripled to start the inning, and he scored when Josh K followed with an RBI single, making the score 5-3. Jude then doubled, scoring Josh K, and the score was 5-4. Beau followed with a two-run blast to left-center, and Guacamol-yay had taken the lead back at 6-5. Jan made it back-to-back jacks with a solo shot, putting Guacamol-yay ahead 7-5. Dylan finally recorded his first out, getting Josh K to fly out to the mound, but the next batter, Jude, also hit a solo homer, making the score 8-5. Dylan got Beau to ground out to center, ending the inning, and Guacamol-yay’s six run inning put them ahead by three.

Shady Characters couldn’t answer in the top of the fourth, as Josh K retired Tom K and Mike in order.

Guacamol-yay added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth. Jan tripled to start the inning, his second triple of the game, and scored when Josh K followed with an RBI single. The next batter, Jude, flew out to right, and Josh K was doubled up on the play, ending the inning with the score 9-5.

Shady Characters threatened in the top of the fifth, but couldn’t capitalize. Brad singled with one out, but when Sam followed with a single, Brad was caught off second base, ending the inning.

Sam took the mound for Shady Characters in the bottom of the fifth. He allowed a one-out single to Jan, and Josh K followed with a single, putting runners on first and third with one out. Guacamol-yay couldn’t add an insurance run, however, as Sam retired Jude to strand two runners, ending the inning.

Shady Characters trailed by four heading into the sixth, and Josh K remained on the mound to close things out for Guacamol-yay. He retired the first batter he faced, Dylan, but then Shady Characters showed some life. Tom K doubled, and the next batter, Mike, smoked a two-run homer to left, cutting the deficit to 9-7. The rally would end there though, as Josh K fanned Lucas to end the game, giving Guacamol-yay the win.

The victory moved Guacamol-yay to 2-2 on the season, and the loss dropped Shady Characters to 1-3.

Tom K Quiets Jack Shack Bats in 5-3 Victory as Shady Characters Get First Win of Season

Tom K was effective on the mound, allowing only three runs in a complete game effort, helping Shady Characters to their first win of the season

Shady Characters picked up their first win of the 2020 season in a 5-3 win over Jack Shack on Tuesday. Tom K was effective on the mound, and with a strong defense behind him, pitched a complete game win, allowing three runs on six hits. Tom K and Mike (making his EWL debut) each contributed two hits and scored a combined three of Shady Characters’ five runs in the win.

As a light rain fell on the Wiffle Diamond, Tom K cruised through the first inning, retiring Adam and Brian in order.

Shady Characters provided run support immediately in the bottom of the first. Dylan led off with a double and moved to third when Tom K followed with a single. With no outs and runners on the corners, Mike doubled in his first career at-bat, scoring Dylan to make the score 1-0. With two runners in scoring position, the Jack Shack starter, Dustin, got Brad to ground out for the first out of the inning, but both runs scored on the play. Dustin then retired Lucas to end the inning, and Shady Characters led 3-0.

Jack Shack bounced back in the top of the second. Turbo doubled with one out, and Adam followed with an RBI triple, cutting the score to 3-1. Brian then doubled, scoring Adam, and Jack Shack narrowed the deficit to 3-2. Tom K then fanned Dustin to end the inning.

Dustin rolled in the bottom of the second, retiring Sam and Dylan consecutively.

Tom K matched him in the top of the third, putting Turbo and Adam down in order.

Jack Shack drew even in the top of the fourth when Brian led off the inning with a solo inside-the-park homer. Dustin followed with a double, but Tom K limited the damage. He retired Turbo and Adam to strand the runner at second, and the score was 3-3.

Shady Characters took the lead right back in the bottom of the fourth. Lucas led off with a double, and Sam followed with a single, putting runners on the corners. Dylan flew out in foul territory, but Lucas tagged and scored on the play, and the sac fly gave Shady Characters a 4-3 lead. Dustin then retired Tom K to end the inning, with Jack Shack trailing by a run.

Brian doubled to start the top of the fifth, but once again, Tom K buckled down. Dustin hit a sac fly, which advanced Brian to third, but Tom K retired Turbo for the second out, stranding the runner at third.

Shady Characters added one additional insurance run in the bottom of the fifth. Mike led off the inning with a triple, and he scored when Brad grounded out for the first out of the inning. Dustin retired Lucas to end the inning, and Jack Shack were down two heading into the sixth.

Cheap Goats Crush Shady Characters 22-1

Brett went 9-for-10, tying the EWL single-game record for doubles with five, and hitting for the cycle, in his second career game

In a historically dominant offensive performance, Cheap Goats pummeled Shady Characters 22-2, tying and nearly breaking several offensive single-game records. Brett and Joey led Cheap Goats with nine hits each, Christian contributed seven hits, and Dinger pitched a complete game win, allowing only one run on seven hits.

Tom K started on the mound for Shady Characters, and he fell behind early. Joey led off the game with a double, and the next batter, Brett, hit a two-run homer to right center, giving Cheap Goats an immediate 2-0 lead. Christian followed with a single. Tom K struck out Dinger for the first out of the inning, and when the next batter, Joey, singled, Cheap Goats were caught with runners in between bases for the second out of the inning.

Dinger retired Shady Characters’ first batter Dylan, and after allowing a one-out single to Tom K, Lucas grounded out to center to end the inning.

Tom K retired Cheap Goats in order in the top of second, the last inning that Shady Characters would not allow a run.

Shady Characters threatened in the bottom of the second. Brad led off with a single, and Sam followed with a single, putting two runners on with no outs. The next batter, Ryan, also singled, but Shady Characters made a series of baserunning errors, leading to a double play that ended the inning, stranding all runners without scoring a run.

Cheap Goats would add to their lead in the top of the third. Tom K retired Dinger for the first out of the inning, before allowing a triple to Joey. Brett followed with an RBI triple, scoring Joey to make the score 3-0. Christian then tripled, the third consecutive triple for Cheap Goats. The three-bagger scored Brett, extending the Cheap Goats lead to 4-0. Tom K then retired Dinger to end the inning, with Shady Characters trailing by four.

Shady Characters turned to the bullpen in the top of the fourth, sending Lucas to the mound, and the game got out of hand. Joey led off the inning with a double, and Brett followed with a two-run shot, making the score 6-0. Christian then singled, and Dinger followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Joey flew out to the mound for the first out of the inning, but Brett followed with a two-run double, clearing the bases to put Cheat Goats ahead 8-0. Christian then singled, scoring Brett, and the score was 9-0. Dinger followed with a double, putting runners on second and third with one out. Joey cleared the bags with a three-run blast to left, and Cheap Goats led 12-0. Brett followed with a double and moved to third when Christian singled for the third time in the inning. Lucas finally escaped the inning, getting Dinger to fly out to the mound. Cheap Goats had scored eight runs in the inning, and had pulled out to a twelve run lead.

Shady Characters turned to Sam on the mound, and Joey led off the top of the fifth with a solo homer, putting Cheap Goats ahead 13-0. Brett followed with a double, but Cheap Goats couldn’t put together consecutive monster innings. Lucas struck out Christian, and then retired Dinger to strand Brett at second, ending the inning.

Shady Characters finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth when Sam led off the inning with a solo homer to right-center. Dinger retired Ryan, and after allowing a one-out single to Dylan, got Tom K to fly out to the mound, ending the inning with the score 13-1.

The game went from a blowout to a historically one-sided game in the top of the sixth. Joey led off the inning with a double, and Brett drove him in with an RBI double, making the score 14-1. Christian then singled, putting runners on the corners with no outs. Dinger singled, scoring Brett from third, and the score was 15-1. Joey followed with a three run homer, his second three-run shot of the game, and Cheap Goats led 18-1. Brett followed with a double, for the fifth consecutive at-bat, which tied the EWL single-game record for doubles. Sam finally recorded the first out of the inning, getting Christian to groundout to right, but Dinger followed with an RBI single, scoring Brett to make the score 19-1. Joey then followed with a two-run homer, his second of the inning and fourth of the game, and the score was 21-1. Brett then singled, and Christian drove him in with an RBI triple, his second triple of the game. Sam and Shady Characters finally got out of the inning when Dinger flew out the left. Cheap Goats had scored 9 runs in the inning and led 22-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

Shady Characters couldn’t put together a legendary rally, or any rally, in the bottom of the sixth. Lucas struck out for the first out of the inning, and after Brad his a one-out single, Dinger ended the game by getting Sam to fly out to the mound.

The win moved Cheap Goats to 2-0 on the season, and Shady Characters dropped to 0-2.

Adam led Jack Shack, starting the season with a leadoff homer and going five-for-five in the season opening win.

Adam went 5-for-5 with four runs scored, leading 2019 EWL champions Jack Shack to a 9-7 win over Shady Characters in the first game of the 2020 season. Brian pitched the complete game win, and Dustin and Turbo each contributed three hits for Jack Shack.

Dylan led off the top of the first with a single for Shady Characters, but Brian retired the next two hitters, Tom K and Lucas, ending the inning.

Jack Shack jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first, when the Co-MVP of the 2019 Wiffle Series, Adam, led off the game with a homer, his second career lead-off home run. Shady Characters’ starter, Tom K, fanned Turbo for the first out of the inning, and after giving up a one-out triple to Dustin, retired Brian to strand the runner, and Jack Shack led 1-0.

Brian struck out Sam for the first out of the second inning, then retired Ryan to end the inning with the score 1-0.

Tom K avoided further damage, retiring Dustin and Brian to end the inning.

Brian and Jack Shack were reeling, but he buckled down, retiring Ryan and Brad consecutively, as Shady Characters left the bases loaded, and Jack Shack held on to win 9-7.

The win moved Jack Shack to 1-0 on the season, and the loss dropped Shady Characters to 0-1.

Shady Characters Hold Off Late Cheap Goats Rally to Win 6-5

Joe went 3-for-5, all three hits doubles, to lead Shady Characters in the win over Cheap Goats

Both Shady Characters and Cheap Goats scored five runs in the fifth inning, but it was the single run Shady Characters scored in the third inning that was the difference, as they held off Cheap Goats late push for a comeback, winning 6-5. The loss was Cheap Goats’ first of the 2019 season, and the win snapped Shady Characters’ four game losing streak.

Dinger took the mound for Cheap Goats, and he got off to a good start, retiring Dylan and Tom K in order in the top of the first.

Tom K had two innings of pitching eligibility left for week 3, and he got the start for Shady Characters. He sent Jordan and Joey down consecutively, and the game was scoreless after an inning.

The barrage of hits and poor Cheap Goats fielding continued, as Joe hit an RBI double, scoring Tom K, and Shady Characters had pulled ahead 6-0. Dinger finally escaped the inning when Luke grounded out to left, and Cheap Goats trailed by six runs.

Cheap Goats had only managed one hit, a single, through the first four innings, but they got out their bats in the bottom of the fifth. Dave led off with a triple, and Jordan drove him in with an RBI double that put Cheap Goats on the board at 6-1. Joey then singled, and Cheap Goats had runners on the corners with no outs. Two batters later, Christian hit a three-run blast to right, and Cheap Goats had cut the deficit to 6-4. Dave followed with a solo homer, the first of his career, and the back-to-back home runs made the score 6-5. While pitching to Jordan, Mike came up lame leaving the mound to approach a ball in foul territory, and he exited the game. Luke took over on the mound and retired Jordan to end the inning and the Cheap Goats rally. Cheap Goats had scored five runs, and they now trailed by a run heading into the final inning.

Luke remained on the mound to close things out for Shady Characters, and he was effective. He retired Joey and Dinger in order, ending the game, giving Shady Characters a 6-5 victory.
