Guac Boys Storm From Behind to Top Shady Characters 11-8

The Guac Boys trailed 7-2 heading into the bottom of the third inning, and across the next three innings, they scored nine unanswered runs to take the lead and hold on to beat Shady Characters 11-8. Jude led the Guac Boys, going 5-for-7 with a single, three doubles, a home run, three runs scored, and three RBI, Tone and Alec each contributed four hits, and Bohn pitched the complete game win. The win over first place Shady Characters extended Guac Boy’s lead over Cheap Goats for second place in the season standings with three games remaining in the regular season.

Bohn started for the Guac Boys, and he fell behind early. Dylan led off the top of the first with a double, and he moved to third when Nate followed with a single. With no outs and runners on the corners, Tom singled, driving in Dylan, and Shady Characters led 1-0. Jason cleared the bases with a titanic three-run bomb to right, and Shady Characters had taken a 4-0 lead without recording an out. Bohn retired the next two batters, Lucas and Dylan, to end the inning, and the Guac Boys trailed by four runs.

Jason followed with Shady Characters’ third consecutive single, but Bohn stranded two runners, retiring Lucas for the second out of the inning, and the score remained 4-0.

The Guac Boys got on the board in the bottom of the second. Bohn led off with a single, and he moved from first to third when Alec followed with a double. Two batters later, Tone hit a two-RBI single, scoring both Bohn and Alec, and the score was cut to 4-2. Tom retired Bohn for the second out of the inning, stranding Tone at first.

Shady Characters’ lead had been cut in half, but they got the runs back in the top of the third. Dylan led off with a solo homer, putting Shady Characters in front 5-2. Nate followed with a double, and two batters later, with one out, Jason hit a two-run homer, his second blast of the game, and the lead was 7-2. Bohn retired Lucas for the second out of the inning, and Shady Characters were up five runs.

Down 7-2, the Guac Boys started to chip away in the bottom of the third, and Shady Characters brought Lucas to the mound from the bullpen. Alec led off the inning with a solo homer, and Jude followed with a solo homer of his own. The back-to-back homers cut the Shady Characters lead to 7-4. Tone followed with a single, but Lucas stranded him, retiring Bohn and Alec to end the inning.

Bohn cruised through the top of the fourth, retiring Dylan and Nate in order, and the score remained 7-4.

Jude started the bottom of the fourth with a double, and Tone followed with a two-run homer, cutting Shady Characters’ lead to one run at 7-6. Bohn singled, and two batters later, Jude hit a one-out double to put two runners in scoring position with one out. Lucas escaped the jam, however, retiring Tone to strand two runners, ending the inning and maintaining a one-run lead.

Jason hit a one-out double in the top of the fifth, but Shady Characters couldn’t add an insurance run. Bohn retired Lucas to strand the runner at second, ending the inning.

Despite trailing the entire game, the Guac Boys continued to rally in the bottom of the fifth, taking their first lead of the game. Lucas retired Bohn to start the inning, but then got into trouble. Alec hit a one-out triple, and Jude drove him in with an RBI single, tying the game at 7-7. Tone followed with his second two-run homer of the game, and the bomb put the Guac Boys in front for the first time at 9-7. Bohn followed with a solo shot, and the back-to-back homers made the score 10-7. Alec then doubled, and Jude drove him in with his third double of the game. Lucas finally got out of the inning by retiring Tone for the second out, but the Guac Boys had scored five runs, and in total, nine unanswered runs, to take an 11-7 lead heading into the sixth.

Bohn remained on the mound to close things out for the Guac Boys. Dylan started with a double, but he was thrown out trying to extend the hit into a triple. Nate followed with a solo homer, which cut the score to 11-8. Shady Characters couldn’t rally further, however, as Bohn retired Tom for the second out of the inning, ending the game and giving the Guac Boys an 11-8 victory.

The win moved the Guac Boys above .500 to 9-8 on the season, and the loss dropped Shady Characters to 13-4.

Joey of Cheap Goats Named Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week

Joey’s late-career resurgence continued in week 8, as he kept up the record-breaking pace he has maintained throughout the 2023 season, punishing opposing hitters with a barrage of extra-base hits. He delivered a record-breaking performance as Cheap Goats exploded for the most dominant offensive performance of the 2023 season, and he continued to swat balls over the left field fence. He led Cheap Goats to a split in week 8, holding tight with the Guac Boys in the chase for second place in the season standings, and after another strong week at the plate and in the field, he was voted Wiffler of the week for the second time this season.

In a 24-9 win over Jack Shack, Joey had a career game, going 9-for-10 with six doubles, one triple, two home runs, seven runs scored, and six RBI, breaking the single-game EWL record for doubles (5) that was previously held by Tim of Ham Slams, Tom W of Shady Characters, and Brett of Cheap Goats.

In a 9-7 loss to the Guac Boys, he went 3-for-6 with a double, two home runs, three runs scored, and four RBI.

In total, Joey went 12-for-16 with seven doubles, four home runs, ten runs scored, and ten RBI in week 8.

This is the sixteenth time in Joey’s career that he has been voted Wiffler of the Week, and the second time in three weeks, after being named Wiffler of the Week for week 6 of the 2023 season.

Brum’s Two-Run Homer Caps Guac Boys 9-7 Victory Over Cheap Goats

Alec went deep three times, Jude homered twice, and Brum’s two-run bomb in the top of the sixth put the Guac Boys ahead for good in their 9-7 victory over Cheap Goats. The two teams have been battling it out for second and third place in the EWL standings all season, and this win could prove crucial to the tiebreaker that determines playoff seeding as both teams chase Shady Characters.

Dinger started on the mound for Cheap Goats, and the first batter he faced, Alec, went deep, and the leadoff homer gave the Guac Boys a 1-0 lead immediately. Two batters later, Jude hit a one-out double, but Dinger stranded him, retiring Jan to end the inning.

Jan took the mound for Guac Boys, and he allowed a leadoff double to Joey. The next batter, Miller, hit a two-run homer, putting Cheap Goats ahead 2-1. Jan retired Christian and Dinger to end the inning, and Cheap Goats led by a run.

The Guac Boys reclaimed the lead in the top of the second. Tone led off with a single, and Alec followed with his second homer of the game, a two-run shot that made the score 3-2. Two batters later, with one out, Jude hit a solo homer, and the Guac Boys led 4-2. Dinger retired Jan to end the inning, and Cheap Goats trailed by two runs.

Cheap Goats had the tying run at the plate, but Jan got Joey to ground out to center, stranding the runner, ending the inning, and giving the Guac Boys a 9-7 victory.

The win moved the Guac Boys to .500 at 8-8 on the season, and the loss dropped Cheap Goats to 7-9.

Jack Shack, who have been mired in roster chaos and stuck in fourth place in the EWL standings throughout the 2023 season, held a 6-4 lead over Shady Characters, the two-time defending champs and first place team, heading into the sixth inning, and were poised for an upset. But as Shady Characters have done time and again over the last several seasons, they put together one huge inning, scoring seven runs in the top of the sixth, delivering another heartbreaking defeat to their opponent. Jason homered twice in the top of the sixth, and Lucas, Nate, and Dylan homered once, as Shady Characters took a commanding lead and held on to win, extending their lead atop the season standings.

Jared took the mound for Jack Shack, and he was effective early, retiring Dylan and Nate in the top of the first.

Shady Characters’ ace Tom started, and he was also in typical form early, sending Ryan and Jon down in order in the bottom of the second.

Jared continued to pitch well in the top of the second, retiring Tom and Jason.

Tom once again matched Jared, retiring the side in order in the bottom of the second, and the game was scoreless through two innings.

Shady Characters took an early lead in the top of the third. After retiring Lucas for the first out, Jared allowed a solo homer to Dylan. Nate followed with a solo shot, and the back-to-back homers gave Shady Characters a 2-0 lead. Tom followed with a single, but Jared stranded him, retiring Jason for the second out of the inning.

Lucas and Dylan both followed with singles, and Nate not only cleared the bases but also put Shady Characters ahead with a three-run blast to right, making the score 8-6. Two batters later, Jason hit a one-out solo homer, his second bomb of the inning, and the score was 9-6. Lucas then homered, and Dylan followed with his second solo homer of the game. The back-to-back homers put Shady Characters in front 11-6. Jared finally escaped the inning by retiring Nate for the second out.

Cheap Goats unleashed the most dominant offensive performance of the 2023 season, pummeling Jack Shack 24-9. Joey had nine hits, including an EWL single-game record six doubles, Miller tied the single-game EWL record for home runs with five, and Dinger hit for the cycle for the second time in his EWL career. Cheap Goats scored nine runs in the first inning and ten runs in the sixth inning, breaking their franchise record for runs scored in a single game.

Josh took the mound for Jack Shack, and Cheap Goats crushed him immediately. Joey led off the game with a double, and Miller followed with a two-run homer, putting Cheap Goats up 2-0. Josh retired Christian for the first out of the inning, and the next seven consecutive batters reached base safely. Dinger doubled, and Joey drove him in with an RBI double, making the score 3-0. Jack Shack had scored eight unanswered runs, including six runs without recording an out in the bottom of the second, and the score was 9-8. Cheap Goats turned to the bullpen, bringing Christian to the mound. He retired the first two batters he faced, Ryan and Jon, to end the inning, and Cheap Goats led by a run.

After the rough first inning, Josh continued to pitch effectively into the third inning. He retired Christian and Dinger in order, and Jack Shack continued to trail by a run.

Josh struck out Miller to start the inning, and the next twelve Cheap Goats batters reached base safely. Christian hit a one-out double, and he scored from second when Dinger followed with an RBI single, putting Cheap Goats ahead 15-9. Joey then doubled, his fifth double of the game, tying the EWL single-game record. Dinger scored on the play, and Jack Shack trailed 16-9. Miller followed with a two-run bomb, tying his career-high with four home runs, and the score was 18-9. Christian hit a solo shot, and the score was 19-9. Dinger singled, and Joey hit his second blast of the game, a two-run homer that put Cheap Goats ahead 21-9. Miller made it back-to-back, tying the EWL single-game record with his fifth home run of the game, and the score was 22-9. Christian hit his third double of the game, and Dinger drove him in with an RBI triple that completed the second cycle of his long wiffle career and extended the Cheap Goats lead to 23-9. Joey followed with his sixth double of the game, breaking the single-game record for doubles, the third EWL record book entry in the last four Cheap Goats at-bats.
