Joey and Miller Lead Cheap Goats in Record-Breaking 24-9 Rout of Jack Shack

Cheap Goats celebrate at the plate as Joey scores one of a franchise-record twenty-four runs in their record-breaking 24-9 victory over Jack Shack

Cheap Goats unleashed the most dominant offensive performance of the 2023 season, pummeling Jack Shack 24-9. Joey had nine hits, including an EWL single-game record six doubles, Miller tied the single-game EWL record for home runs with five, and Dinger hit for the cycle for the second time in his EWL career. Cheap Goats scored nine runs in the first inning and ten runs in the sixth inning, breaking their franchise record for runs scored in a single game.

Josh took the mound for Jack Shack, and Cheap Goats crushed him immediately. Joey led off the game with a double, and Miller followed with a two-run homer, putting Cheap Goats up 2-0. Josh retired Christian for the first out of the inning, and the next seven consecutive batters reached base safely. Dinger doubled, and Joey drove him in with an RBI double, making the score 3-0. Miller then doubled, scoring Joey, and Jack Shack trailed 4-0. Christian followed with Cheap Goats’ fourth consecutive double, which scored Miller, extending the lead to 5-0. Dinger followed with an RBI single, scoring Christian, and the score was 6-0. Joey hit his third consecutive double and third double in the first inning, putting runners on second and third. Miller cleared the bases with his second bomb of the inning, a three-run shot that gave Cheap Goats a 9-0 lead. Josh finally escaped the disastrous first inning by retiring Christian for the second out.

Dinger started for Cheap Goats, and after retiring Jack Shack’s first batter, Ryan, he allowed a solo homer to Jon, making the score 9-1. Jared then homered, and the back-to-back jacks cut the deficit to 9-2. Dinger then retired Brian to end the inning, and Jack Shack trailed by seven runs.

After allowing a one-out double to Joey in the top of the second, Josh retired Miller for the second out of the inning, stranding the runner, and the score remained 9-2.

Jack Shack rallied in the bottom of the second, making the game interesting. Josh led off the inning with a solo homer, which made the score 9-3. Ryan doubled, and Jon followed with a two-run shot, his second homer of the game, cutting the Cheap Goats lead to 9-5. Jared followed with a homer, making the score 9-6, and Brian also hit a solo homer, narrowing the deficit to 9-7. Josh also homered, and the back-to-back-to-back-to-back homers had trimmed a nine-run Cheap Goats lead to one. Jack Shack had scored eight unanswered runs, including six runs without recording an out in the bottom of the second, and the score was 9-8. Cheap Goats turned to the bullpen, bringing Christian to the mound. He retired the first two batters he faced, Ryan and Jon, to end the inning, and Cheap Goats led by a run.

After the rough first inning, Josh continued to pitch effectively into the third inning. He retired Christian and Dinger in order, and Jack Shack continued to trail by a run.

Christian matched Josh in the bottom of the third, sending Jared and Ryan down in order.

Cheap Goats got a few runs back in the top of the fourth. Joey led off the inning with a triple, and Miller drove him in with an RBI triple, making the score 10-8. Josh got Christian to ground out for the first out of the inning, but Miller scored on the play, and Cheap Goats led 11-8. Josh retired Dinger for the second out of the inning, and Jack Shack were down three runs.

Josh led off the bottom of the fourth with a triple, and he scored when Christian got Ryan to ground out for the first out of the inning. Christian then retired Jon to end the inning, and the score was 11-9 through four innings.

Cheap Goats once again added to their lead in the top of the fifth. Joey started the inning with a solo homer, which made the score 12-9. Miller followed with his third home run of the contest, and the back-to-back bombs gave Cheap Goats a 13-9 lead. Christian followed with a single, but he was caught out trying to extend the hit into a double. Dinger then hit a one-out solo shot, and Cheap Goats led 14-9. Josh retired Joey for the first time in the game for the second out of the inning, and Cheap Goats were in front by five runs.

Jared singled to start the bottom of the fifth, but Jack Shack couldn’t rally. Christian retired Brian and Josh to strand the runner at first, ending the inning.

Cheap Goats came into the top of the sixth leading by five runs, and they not only added a few insurance runs, they opened up a fifteen run lead. Josh struck out Miller to start the inning, and the next twelve Cheap Goats batters reached base safely. Christian hit a one-out double, and he scored from second when Dinger followed with an RBI single, putting Cheap Goats ahead 15-9. Joey then doubled, his fifth double of the game, tying the EWL single-game record. Dinger scored on the play, and Jack Shack trailed 16-9. Miller followed with a two-run bomb, tying his career-high with four home runs, and the score was 18-9. Christian hit a solo shot, and the score was 19-9. Dinger singled, and Joey hit his second blast of the game, a two-run homer that put Cheap Goats ahead 21-9. Miller made it back-to-back, tying the EWL single-game record with his fifth home run of the game, and the score was 22-9. Christian hit his third double of the game, and Dinger drove him in with an RBI triple that completed the second cycle of his long wiffle career and extended the Cheap Goats lead to 23-9. Joey followed with his sixth double of the game, breaking the single-game record for doubles, the third EWL record book entry in the last four Cheap Goats at-bats. Dinger scored on the play, and Cheap Goats had taken a 24-9 lead. Miller came to the plate with a chance to break the single-game record for home runs with his sixth bomb, but Josh retired him and got out of his second punishing inning of the game, ending the inning.

Dinger returned to the mound in the bottom of the sixth to close things out for Cheap Goats, and he made quick work of Jack Shack. He retired Ryan and Jon in order, ending the inning and the game, as Cheap Goats won 24-9.

The win moved Cheap Goats to 7-8 on the season, and the loss dropped Jack Shack to 4-11.
