Bryan Hits Second Consecutive Walk-Off Inside-the-Park Homer to Lift Jack Shack Past Guacamol-yay 3-2

Bryan made EWL history in week 3, hitting walk-off inside-the-park home runs in consecutive games, giving Jack Shack two improbable wins and moving them within a game of first place in the season standings

Down 2-1 with one out in the bottom of the sixth, Jack Shacked had their backs against the wall when Bryan pulled a rabbit out of his hat for the second game in a row, completing a walk-off inside-the-park home run to give Jack Shack an improbable 3-2 victory over Guacamol-yay. Just one game after hitting a walk-off inside-the-park homer with the score tied in the bottom of the sixth, Bryan repeated the unprecedented feat, driving in two runs, including himself, with his team down by a run to secure another win for Jack Shack. Bryan joined Nate of Eastbound and Dahn as only the second player ever to hit two walk-off home runs in one day.

Josh D started on the mound for Jack Shack, and after allowing a lead-off single to Jan, he retired Josh K and Jude to strand the runner, ending the inning.

Josh D tried to help himself out in the bottom of the first, leading off the inning with a triple. But his opposing pitcher, Josh K, stranded him at third, striking out Adam and retiring Bryan, and the score remained tied at zero.

Guacamol-yay took an early lead in the top of the second. Ben singled and moved to third when Jonah followed with a double. Josh D got Jan to ground out to left for the first out of the inning, but Ben scored from third on the play, and Guacamol-yay led 1-0. Josh K followed with an RBI single, scoring Jonah, and the score was 2-0. Josh D got Jude to ground out to center for the second out of the inning, stranding Josh K, and Guacamol-yay led by two.

Josh K retired the side in order in the bottom of the second, maintaining the two run lead.

Josh D sent Ben and Jonah down consecutively in the top of the third, and Jack Shack would cut into the Guacamol-yay lead in the bottom half of the inning.

Josh D tripled for the second consecutive at-bat to lead off the inning, and he scored on Adam’s sacrifice fly, making the score 2-1. Josh K struck out Bryan to end the inning, and Guacamol-yay led by a run.

Josh D continued to pitch effectively in the top of the fourth, sending Jan and Josh K down in order.

Dustin started the bottom of the fourth with a single. He moved from first to third when Turbo followed with a single, but Turbo was caught out trying to advance the single into a double. Josh D then singled, putting runners on the corners with one out, but Jack Shack couldn’t even the score. Josh K got Adam to fly out to deep center, stranding two runners and ending the inning.

Ben doubled with one out in the top of the fifth, but Guacamol-yay couldn’t plate the runner, as Josh D struck out Jonah to end the inning.

Bryan singled to lead off the bottom of the fifth, but Jack Shack once again failed to tie the game. Josh K retired Dustin and Turbo to end the inning, and Guacamol-yay held on to a 2-1 lead.

Josh K remained in the game to close things out for Guacamol-yay, and he retired Josh D for the first out in the bottom of the sixth. Down to their last out, Jack Shack held on to hope when Adam singled, putting the tying runner on base. Bryan came to the plate, in a very similar circumstance to Jack Shack’s previous game. Just one game earlier, Bryan hit a walk-off inside-the-park homer with one out in a tied game in the bottom of the sixth, giving Jack Shack a win over Shady Characters. One game later, Bryan broke hearts again, this time, Guacamol-yay’s. He put the ball in play, and after a series of fielding and throwing errors, he raced around the bases. Adam scored to tie the game at 2-2, and several seconds later, Bryan came across home plate to complete the inside-the-park homer, a two-run walk-off home run that gave Jack Shack an unbelievable 3-2 win.

The win moved Jack Shack to 4-2 on the season, one game back of Cheap Goats in the standings. Guacamol-yay fell to 1-5 with the loss.

Shady Characters Hold Off Late Cheap Goats Rally to Win 6-5

Joe went 3-for-5, all three hits doubles, to lead Shady Characters in the win over Cheap Goats

Both Shady Characters and Cheap Goats scored five runs in the fifth inning, but it was the single run Shady Characters scored in the third inning that was the difference, as they held off Cheap Goats late push for a comeback, winning 6-5. The loss was Cheap Goats’ first of the 2019 season, and the win snapped Shady Characters’ four game losing streak.

Dinger took the mound for Cheap Goats, and he got off to a good start, retiring Dylan and Tom K in order in the top of the first.

Tom K had two innings of pitching eligibility left for week 3, and he got the start for Shady Characters. He sent Jordan and Joey down consecutively, and the game was scoreless after an inning.

Joe doubled to lead off the top of the second, but Shady Characters couldn’t capitalize, as Dinger retired Luke and Mike to strand the runner, ending the inning.

Tom K pitched another perfect frame in the bottom of the second, retiring Dinger and Christian, and reaching his innings limit for the week.

Shady Characters broke the scoreless tie in the top of the third. Dylan singled to lead off the inning, and two batters later, Joe hit an RBI double to score him, making the score 1-0. Dinger retired Luke to end the inning, and Shady Characters led by a run.

Mike took over on the mound for Shady Characters to start the bottom of the third. He picked up where Tom K left off, retiring the side in order.

Mike gave up a one-out single to Dinger in the bottom of the fourth, but retired Christian for the second out of the inning, and the score remained 1-0.

Shady Characters opened up a big lead with a big inning in the top of the fifth. Tom K singled, and two batters later, Luke hit his second homer of the week, a two-run shot to right-center, making the score 3-0. Mike followed with a triple, and Dylan drove him in with an RBI double that extended the Shady Characters lead to 4-0. Tom K then hit an RBI double, scoring Dylan, and Shady Characters led 5-0. The barrage of hits and poor Cheap Goats fielding continued, as Joe hit an RBI double, scoring Tom K, and Shady Characters had pulled ahead 6-0. Dinger finally escaped the inning when Luke grounded out to left, and Cheap Goats trailed by six runs.

Cheap Goats had only managed one hit, a single, through the first four innings, but they got out their bats in the bottom of the fifth. Dave led off with a triple, and Jordan drove him in with an RBI double that put Cheap Goats on the board at 6-1. Joey then singled, and Cheap Goats had runners on the corners with no outs. Two batters later, Christian hit a three-run blast to right, and Cheap Goats had cut the deficit to 6-4. Dave followed with a solo homer, the first of his career, and the back-to-back home runs made the score 6-5. While pitching to Jordan, Mike came up lame leaving the mound to approach a ball in foul territory, and he exited the game. Luke took over on the mound and retired Jordan to end the inning and the Cheap Goats rally. Cheap Goats had scored five runs, and they now trailed by a run heading into the final inning.

Dylan started the top of the sixth with a single, but Shady Characters couldn’t extend their lead. Dinger retired Tom K and Joe to end the inning, and Cheap Goats would need a run to send the game to extra innings.

Luke remained on the mound to close things out for Shady Characters, and he was effective. He retired Joey and Dinger in order, ending the game, giving Shady Characters a 6-5 victory.

Jordan and Joey Lead Late Charge as Cheap Goats Beat Guacamol-yay 4-2

Jordan and Joey combined to go eight-for-eight with six extra-base hits in Cheap Goats 4-2 win over Guacamol-yay

Jordan and Joey combined to go a perfect eight-for-eight at the top of the Cheap Goats lineup, and contributed eight of Cheap Goats’ nine hits in a 4-2 win over Guacamol-yay. Christian pitched the complete game win, allowing only two runs on six hits, and with the win, Cheap Goats remained undefeated at 5-0.

Jan led off the top of the first with a single for Guacamol-yay, but Christian stranded the runner, retiring Josh and Jude to end the inning.

Cheap Goats jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first. Jordan led off with a triple. Joey then singled, but Jordan couldn’t advance home on the play, leaving runners on first and third with no outs. Dinger then hit a deep fly to center, and Jordan scored on the sacrifice, making the score 1-0. Guacamol-yay’s starter, Jude, then retired Christian to end the inning, and Cheap Goats led by a run.

Guacamol-yay evened things up in the top fo the second. Ben led off with a single, and two batters later, Jan hit an RBI triple, scoring Ben to tie the game at 1-1. Christian retired Josh for the second out of the inning, stranding Jan at third.

Cheap Goats would pull back ahead in the bottom of the fourth. Jordan led off with a triple, and Joey drove him in with an RBI triple that made the score 2-1. Jude then got Dinger to ground out to left for the first out of the inning, but Joey scored from third on the play, and Cheap Goats led 3-1. Jude then retired Christian to end the inning, and Cheap Goats had a two-run lead.

The rally ended there, however, as Christian struck out Jude for the second out of the inning, ending the game and giving Cheap Goats a 4-2 win.

Cheap Goats moved to 5-0 on the year with the win, and Guacamol-yay fell to 1-4 with the loss.

Bryan’s Walk-Off Inside-the-Park Home Run Caps 4-3 Jack Shack Win Over Shady Characters

Bryan had two extra-base hits in the game, including the walk-off inside-the-park homer in the bottom of the sixth that gave Jack Shack a 4-3 win.

Down to their last out before heading to extra-innings, tied at 3-3, Bryan capitalized on a series of Shady Characters’ errors and raced around the bases for a walk-off inside-the-park homer, as Jack Shack won 4-3. It was the first walk-off homer the EWL had seen in nearly a calendar year, the first inside-the-park walk-off in recent memory, and perhaps ever in the history of the league.

Dustin took the mound for Jack Shack, and he retired Shady Characters in order in the top of the first. Jack Shack would provide run support immediately in the bottom of the inning.

Tom K struck out Josh to start the game, but Adam followed with a one-out triple. The next batter, Bryan, also tripled, scoring Adam to put Jack Shack up 1-0. Dustin followed with an RBI single, and Jack Shack led 2-0. Tom K retired Turbo to end the inning, and Jack Shack was ahead by two runs.

Joe led off the top of the second with a double, but Dustin stranded him, retiring Luke and Mike to end the inning, maintaining the two-run lead.

Jack Shack made up the run in the bottom of the third. Dustin started the inning with a double, and Turbo followed with a double, putting runners on second and third with no outs. Josh doubled, scoring Dustin, but Turbo was caught in between bases on the play for the first out. In an odd sequence, Josh was also caught in between bases, as both outs were recorded at third base. The run scored, but Jack Shack squandered two base runners, and after three the score was 3-1.

Down two, Shady Characters clawed closer in the top of the fourth. Mike led off with a triple, and he scored from third on a sacrifice fly by Dylan, narrowing the score to 3-2. Dylan retired Tom K to end the inning, and Jack Shack led by a run.

Mike followed with his second triple of the game, and although the go-ahead runner was on third, Shady Characters couldn’t take advantage. Dustin retired Dylan to end the inning, stranding the runner, and the game was tied at 3-3.

Tom K retired the side in order in the bottom of the fifth, and Shady Characters had a chance to take the lead in the top of the sixth.

Joe doubled with one out, putting the winning run in scoring position. Dustin continued to strand Shady Characters’ runners, however, as he retired Luke for the second out of the inning, and the score was 3-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

Tom K retired Adam for the first time in the game for the first out in the bottom of the sixth, and he was one out away from sending the game to extras. Bryan had other plans. He put the ball in play, and raced around the bases as Shady Characters struggled to field the ball cleanly and get it back to the pitcher’s mound. By the time they had, Bryan had crossed all the bases, including home, for a walk-off inside-the-park homer, giving Jack Shack a 4-3 win.

Dustin earned the complete game win for Jack Shack, allowing three runs on seven hits in six innings, moving to 2-0 on the season.

The win moved Jack Shack to 3-2 on the season, and the loss dropped Shady Characters to 1-4.

Josh K of Guacamol-Yay Voted Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week for Week 2

In a quiet week for offense, Josh K of Guacamol-yay was voted the Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week for week 2 of the 2019 EWL season.

Josh went 4-for-5 with three singles, a double, three runs scored, and two RBI, including a three-for-three performance in Guacamol-yay’s first win in franchise history, a 7-4 victory over Shady Characters. Josh also pitched six innings in a losing effort, and recorded eleven combined put-outs in both week 2 games.

As a rookie in only his second week in the league, this is Josh’s first time winning Wiffler of the Week.
