Josh K of Guacamol-Yay Voted Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week for Week 2

In a quiet week for offense, Josh K of Guacamol-yay was voted the Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week for week 2 of the 2019 EWL season.

Josh went 4-for-5 with three singles, a double, three runs scored, and two RBI, including a three-for-three performance in Guacamol-yay’s first win in franchise history, a 7-4 victory over Shady Characters. Josh also pitched six innings in a losing effort, and recorded eleven combined put-outs in both week 2 games.

As a rookie in only his second week in the league, this is Josh’s first time winning Wiffler of the Week.

Guacamol-yay Erupt for Fourteen Hits, Defeat Shady Characters 7-4

Josh went 3-for-3 for Guacamol-yay with two singles, a double, three runs scored, and two RBI.

All seven players who suited up for Guacamol-yay reached base safely as they combined for fourteen hits, picking up their first victory of the season in a 7-4 defeat of Shady Characters. Josh K and Jude each went 3-for-3 for lead Guacamol-yay, and three pitchers combined to throw two innings each in the win.

Tom K started on the mound for Shady Characters, and he fell behind early. Adam singled to lead off the game, and he moved to second when Corey followed with a single, Josh K then singled, scoring Adam R, and Guacamol-yay led 1-0. Jude came to the plate with runners on first and third, and he singled, clearing the bases to put Guacamol-yay ahead 3-0. Jan then singled, becoming the fifth consecutive Guacamol-yay player to single to start the came. The next batter, Allie, flew out to Dylan in center, and caught Jan in between bases for a double play, ending the inning.

Josh K took the mound for Guacamol-yay, and he struck out the first batter he faced, Tom K, who attempted to hit left-handed for unexplained reasons. Dylan followed with a triple, but Shady Characters couldn’t plate the runner, as Josh K got Joe to ground out to left, ending the inning and stranding the runner.

Jude, who went 3-for-3 with two singles, a triple, a run scored, and three RBI, connects on one of his hits off Tom K.

Tom K got back on track in the top of the second, retiring Del and Adam in order, and the score remained 3-0.

Shady Characters got on the board in the bottom of the second. Mike tripled with one out, and Tom K drove him in with an RBI double that cut the deficit to 3-1. The rally would end there, as Josh K retired Dylan to strand Tom K at second and end the inning.

Tom K had met his innings limit for week 2, and Shady Characters turned to Mike from the bullpen. The first batter he faced, Corey, tripled. Josh K followed with a single, but Corey was caught in between bases trying to score from third. Jude then tripled, scoring Josh K and putting Guacamol-yay in front 4-1. Jan followed with a single, scoring Jude, and the score was 5-1. Mike then struck out Allie for the second out of the inning, and Shady Charcters trailed by four runs.

Josh K had also reached his innings limit for week 2, and Jan took over for him on the mound in the third. Luke hit a one-out double, but Jan avoided damage, retiring Mike to strand the runner, ending the inning.

Del doubled to lead off the top of the fourth. The next batter, Adam, grounded out to right, and Del was caught off the third base bag for the second out of the inning.

Shady Characters drew closer in the bottom of the fourth. Tom K tripled to lead off the inning, and Dylan followed with a two-run homer to right-center, making the score 5-3. Jan then retired Joe and Luke in order to end the inning, and the Guacamol-yay lead was trimmed to two runs.

Guacamol-yay made up the runs in the top of the fifth. Corey led off the inning with a double, and Josh K followed with an RBI double that put Guacamol-yay ahead 6-3. Jude the singled to put runners on the corners. Two batters later, Allie hit an RBI single, scoring Josh K, and the score was 7-3. Mike retired Del to end the inning, and Shady Characters trailed by four runs.

Guacamol-yay turned to Jude from the bullpen to in the fifth. He struck out the first batter he faced, Mike. The next batter, Tom K, hit a solo homer to right-center, narrowing the Guacamol-yay lead to 7-4. Jude then retired Dylan to end the inning.

Mike made quick work of Guacamol-yay in the top of the sixth, retiring Adam and Corey in order, and Shady Characters would need four runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend the game.

Luke singled with one out in the bottom of the sixth, but the rally would end there. Jude got Mike to ground out to center, ending the inning and the game, and giving Gucamol-yay their first win of the season.

The win moved Guacamol-yay to 1-3, and Shady Characters dropped to 1-3 with the loss.

Norris and Christian Quiet Jack Shack Bats in 6-1 Cheap Goats Victory

Norris went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a triple and pitched scored innings of relief to lead Cheap Goats in a 6-1 win

Norris went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a triple and pitched four innings of relief as Cheap Goats went up early and held Jack Shack to a single run in a 6-1 victory. Joey, Dave, and Christian each contributed two hits, and Cheap Goats remained undefeated at 4-0 after two weeks of the EWL season.

After pitching a complete game win in the first game of week 2, Christian started on the mound again for Cheap Goats in their second game of the week. He retired Josh and Adam R in order for a scoreless inning in the top of the first.

Cheap Goats jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first. Joey tripled with one out off Jack Shack’s starter, Adam R, and Norris drove him in with an RBI double, making the score 1-0. Christian then singled, scoring Norris from second, and Cheap Goats led 2-0. Adam then retired Ryan to strand Christian, ending the inning.

Christian continued to roll in the top of the second, sending Dustin and Turbo down in order. Adam R matched him in the bottom of the second, retiring Dave and Joey consecutively.

Christian had reached his innings limit for the week, and Cheap Goats turned to Norris on the mound. The first batter he faced, Josh, tripled. Adam R then hit a sacrifice fly to center, and Josh nearly crossed home to beat the throw, cutting the score to 2-1. Norris then retired Dustin to end the inning.

Cheap Goats opened up a big lead in the bottom of the third. Norris doubled, and Christian followed with an RBI single to score him from second, making the score 3-1. Ryan then singled, moving Christian to second. Dave hit an RBI double, scoring Norris to put Cheap Goats ahead 4-1. Adam R got Joey to ground out to center for the first out of the inning, but Christian scored on the play, and the score was 5-1. Norris then tripled for his third extra-base hit of the game, scoring Dave, and Cheap Goats led 6-1. Adam retired Christian to end the inning, and Jack Shack had fallen behind by five runs.

Norris rolled in the top of the fourth, retiring Turbo and striking out Josh.

Dave singled with one out in the bottom of the fourth, and Joey followed with a double, but Dave was caught in between second and third for the second out of the inning, and Jack Shack avoided further damage.

Dustin doubled with one out in the top of the fifth, but Jack Shack couldn’t rally, as Norris retired Turbo to strand the runner and end the inning.

Adam retired Norris and Christian in order in the bottom of the fifth, and Jack Shack trailed by five heading into the final inning.

Josh started the top of the sixth with a single, and he moved from first to third when Adam followed with a double. Jack Shack had two runners in scoring position with no outs, and needed a rally. Dustin hit a high fly ball to shallow center, which Joey caught for an out, and Josh did not test Joey’s arm in attempt to score on a sacrifice. Norris then retired Turbo to strand both runners, ending the inning and the game, as Cheap Goats won 6-1.

Dustin Pitches Shutout, Adam Powers Jack Shack Past Shady Characters 4-0

Dustin, who pitched a complete game shutout in the 4-0 Jack Shack win, delivers a pitch to Joe of Shady Characters

Adam R went 3-for-5 with a single, a double, a homer, and three RBI, and Dustin, in his first appearance of 2019, pitched a complete game shutout, as Jack Shack topped Shady Characters 4-0. Dustin stranded Shady Characters runners throughout the game, and Adam’s two-run homer in the top of the fifth put Jack Shack ahead for good.

Tom K took the mound for Shady Characters, and he fell behind early in the top of the first. Josh D led off with a single, and he moved from first to third when Adam R followed with a double. Dustin his a fly ball, which was caught for an out, but Josh tagged and scored on the sacrifice fly to make the score 1-0. Adam R was pegged by Tom K trying to advance home as well, ending the inning.

Dustin started for Jack Shack, and he gave up a one-out double to Tom K. Shady Characters couldn’t capitalize, however, as Dustin stranded the first of many runners when he retired Dylan to end the inning.

Turbo led off the top of the second with a double, but Tom K escaped the inning without damage, retiring Josh and Adam R to strand him at second, and the score remained 1-0.

Luke, making his EWL debut in place of Tom W, the week 1 Wiffler of the Week who was out for week 2, singled with one out in his first career at-bat. Joe followed with a single, putting runners at first and third. Dustin got out of the jam unscathed, however, retiring Tom K, who flew out to the mound, stranding both runners and ending the inning.

Dustin doubled to lead off the top of the third, but Tom K once again got out of the inning without deepening the deficit, retiring Turbo and Josh to end the inning with the score 1-0.

Dylan doubled to start the bottom of the third, but for the third consecutive inning, Dustin stranded a runner in scoring position, retiring Mike and Luke to end the inning, preserving Jack Shack’s one run lead.

Jack Shack would extend their lead in the top of the fifth. Turbo led off with a double, and two batters later, Adam hit a two-run blast to right-center, putting Jack Shack ahead 3-0. Tom K retired Dustin to end the inning, and Shady Characters trailed by three.

Joe led off with a single in the bottom of the sixth, and Shady Characters had life. But it was extinguished quickly. Tom K hit a fly ball toward the first base line. Dustin caught it for an out and simultaneously stepped on first base while Joe was off the bag. The double play ended the inning and the game, giving Jack Shack a 4-0 win.

The win moved Jack Shack to 2-1 on the season, and the loss dropped Shady Characters to 1-2.

Christian and Cheap Goats Blank Guacamol-yay 2-0

Christian threw a two-hit shutout in his first appearance of 2019, keeping the Guacamol-yay bats silent in a 2-0 Cheap Goats win

In his first pitching appearance of the 2019 season, Christian pitched a complete game shutout for Cheap Goats, allowing only two hits and striking out one in a 2-0 victory over Guacamol-yay. Josh K was effective on the mound for Guacamol-yay, but Cheap Goats scored two runs in the top of the fifth after four scoreless innings, and it was enough to secure a win for Cheap Goats, as they remained the only undefeated team in the EWL.

Dave singled to lead off the top of the first for Cheap Goats, but he wouldn’t advance beyond first, as Josh retired Joey and Norris (making his first appearance of the 2019 season) to end the inning.

Josh matched him in the top of the second, sending Christian and Ryan (making his first career EWL appearance) down in order to end the inning.

Josh led off the bottom of the second with a single. Christian struck out Jude, and Allie followed with a single, putting runners on first and second with one out. Guacamol-yay was threatening, but Christian escaped the jam, retiring Jan for the second out of the inning, stranding both runners.

Tom W of Shady Characters Voted PBR Wiffler of the Week for Week 1

After going 5-for-8 two doubles, three homers, and seven RBI, Tom W was named the Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week for week 1 of the 2019 EWL season.

Tom led Shady Characters to a 1-1 split in week 1, and he was the only player to hit more than one homer in the opening week of the season.

Tom W was Co-Rookie of the Year during the 2018 EWL season, and this is his first time being named Wiffler of the Week.

Cheap Goats Pull Away Late to Top Shady Characters 6-2

Joey went 4-for-5 with four doubles, Dinger contributed four singles, and on the mound, he combined with Emily to allow only two runs on four hits, as Cheap Goats beat Shady Characters 6-2. Cheap Goats scored four runs in the final two innings to take a lead that Shady Characters couldn’t surpass, and the Goats finished week 1 as the only undefeated team in the EWL.

Dylan took the mound for Shady Characters, and he got off to a good start, retiring Jordan and Joey in order in the top of the first. He doubled with one out in the bottom of the first, but Dinger, Cheap Goats’ starter, retired Tom W to strand him at second, and the game was scoreless through an inning.

Dinger led off the top of the second with a single. The next batter, Emily, hit a line drive to Dylan, which he caught, retiring both Emily and Dinger for a double play. Dinger retired Shady Characters in order in the bottom of the second, and he had reached his innings limit for week 1.

With runners on the corners, Joey doubled, scoring Dave to put Cheap Goats ahead 1-0. Dinger then singled, once again putting runners on the corners with no outs. Emily grounded out to right-center, but Joey scored on the play, and Cheap Goats led 2-0. Dave returned to the plate with Dinger on second, but Dylan escaped further damage, getting him to fly out to left to end the inning.

Emily took the mound in the bottom of the third, making her first career EWL pitching appearance. She retired the side in order, and the score remained 2-0.

Joe led off with a double, and two batters later, Tom W crushed a two-run blast to right-center, cutting the deficit to 3-2. Emily retired Tom K to end the inning, and Cheap Goats led by a run heading into the final frame.

Cheap Goats provided Emily with some insurance runs in the top of the sixth. Emily singled and moved to second when Dave followed with a single. Two batters later, Joey hit a bases-clearing double, and the two RBIs put Cheap Goats ahead 5-2. Dinger followed with his fourth single of the game, scoring Joey from second to make the score 6-2. Dylan retired Emily to end the inning, and Shady Characters now trailed by four runs.

Emily picked up a save in her first career EWL pitching performance. She kept Shady Characters in check, allowing only two runs on three hits in four innings of relief.
