Guac Boys Ride Big Early Lead to 12-3 Win Over Cheap Goats

After a thrilling season opening win over Jack Shack, Guac Boys rode a wave of momentum into their second game, going up 10-0 early and later defeating Cheap Goats 12-3. Bohn followed his eight-for-eight season opener by going 5-for-7 with four singles and a three-run homer, as Guac Boys started the 2025 season 2-0.

Christian took the mound for Cheap Goats, and he had a disastrous first frame. Alec led off with a triple, and Tone followed with an RBI single, scoring Alec to put Guac Boys up 1-0. Bohn singled to put runners on first and second, and Form cleared the bases with an RBI double, making the score 3-0. Alec then singled, scoring Form from second, and the lead was 4-0. Tone singled, putting runners on the corners, and Bohn crushed a three-run homer to right-center, giving Guac Boys a 7-0 lead. The first seven Guac Boys batters had all reached base and scored to open the game. Christian recorded the first out, getting Form to groundout to center, and after allowing a one-out single to Alec, he retired Tone to strand the runner and end the inning.

Bohn started for Guac Boys, and he rolled through the bottom of the first, retiring Joey and Courtlen in order.

Bohn led off the top of the second with a single, and he moved from first to third when Form singled. Alec then singled, scoring Bohn, and Guac Boys led 8-0. Tone singled, scoring Form, and the lead was 9-0. After five consecutive singles to start the inning, Form grounded out to center for the first out, but Alec scored on the play, putting Cheap Goats in a 10-0 hole. Christian then got Alec to groundout to left, stranding two runners and ending the inning.

Christian started the bottom of the second with a single, but when Dinger followed with a single, Christian was caught out on the basepaths for the first out of the inning. Bohn then retired Kevin to strand Dinger at first, ending the inning.

After two rough innings to start the game, Christian settled in, retiring Tone and Bohn in order in the top of the third.

Bohn had reached his innings limit for the week, and Tone entered the game from the bullpen in the bottom of the third. He retired Joey and Courtlen in order, and the score remained 10-0.

Form led off the top of the fourth with a single, but Christian stranded him, retiring Alec and Tone to end the inning.

Tone rolled through the bottom of the fourth, sending Christian and Dinger down in order, and Cheap Goats did not have a baserunner advance past first base through four innings.

Christian was once again effective in the top of the fifth, retiring Bohn and Form in order, and Guac Boys continued to lead 10-0.

Cheap Goats finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Kevin singled, but was caught out when Joey followed with a double. Courtlen singled, putting runners on first and third with one out. Christian hit an RBI double, scoring Joey, and Cheap Goats trailed 10-1. Tone then struck out Dinger, stranding two Cheap Goats runners, and ending the inning.

Guac Boys made up the run and added an insurance run in the top of the sixth. Alec led off with a triple, his second of the game, and Tone drove him in with an RBI single, extending the Guac Boys lead to 11-1. Bohn then singled, putting runners on first and second with no outs. Christian got Form to groundout to left, but Tone scored from second on the play, pushing the score to 12-1. Christian then retired Alec, stranding Bohn at second, and ending the inning.

Kevin started the bottom of the sixth with a double, and two batters later, Courtlen hit a two-run homer to right-center, cutting the Guac Boys lead to 12-3. The rally would end there, however, as Bohn retired Christian for the second out, ending the inning and the game, and giving Guac Boys a 12-3 win.

Four-time defending champions Shady Characters only led once in their season-opening matchup with Cheap Goats, but when they took the lead, it was with a walk-off two-run homer by Tom, continuing a multi-season run of clutch late-game hits. Trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth and having trailed the entire game, 2024 Wiffler of the Year Thomas singled, putting the tying run on base and the winning run at the plate. Tom capitalized, crushing a two-run homer to right-center, giving Shady Characters a dramatic win and an impressive start to their campaign to become the first team in league history to five-peat.

Tom took the mound for Shady Characters and the first batter he faced, Joey, doubled. Two batters later, Christian hit a one-out RBI single to score Joey, and Cheap Goats led 1-0. Tom then retired Dinger to end the inning, stranding Christian at first.

Shady Characters continued to chip away at the Cheap Goats lead in the bottom of the fifth. Billy led off with a double, and for the second consecutive inning, Thomas hit a two-run homer, tying the game at 4-4. Dinger retired the next two batters, Tom and Lucas, to end the inning, and heading into the sixth inning, the game was tied.

Tom retired Kevin to start the top of the sixth, but Joey followed with his second solo shot in as many at-bats, putting Cheap Goats back in front 5-4. Courtlen singled, and he moved from first to third when Christian followed with a double. Cheap Goats had two runners on and a chance to add a few insurance runs, but once again, Tom stranded runners. He retired Dinger, leaving two on, and Shady Characters trailed by a run heading into their final at-bat.

Dinger retired Billy to start the bottom of the sixth, and Cheap Goats were an out away from a win. Thomas followed with a single, putting the tying run on base and the winning run at the plate. Like he has time and again over the last several seasons, Tom came to the plate, and despite going 0-for-4 to start the game, he came through in the clutch. He launched a home run to right-center, and his walk-off shot ended the game, giving Shady Characters a dramatic 6-5 win.

Lucas Pitches Shutout as Shady Characters Beat Cheap Goats 3-0 and Win First Series to Advance to Wiffle Series

Lucas threw the seventeenth shutout in EWL postseason history and the first since 2022 as Shady Characters beat Cheap Goats 3-0 to advance to the Wiffle Series

After squeaking out a comeback win in game three of their series with Cheap Goats, Lucas and the Shady Characters’ defense was dominant in game four, allowing six hits in a series-clinching 3-0 shutout. Cheap Goats had only three runners in scoring position and never truly threatened Shady Characters, who advance to the Wiffle Series for the fourth consecutive year. Tom, Nate, and Billy each hit solo homers to provide more than enough run support for Lucas, and now the defending champs await the conclusion of the Jack Shack vs. Guac Boys first round series.

Dinger took the mound for Cheap Goats, and after allowing a one-out single to Nate in the top of the first, he retired Thomas to strand the runner, ending the inning.

Nate’s RBI single in the bottom of the eighth capped Shady Characters dramatic game three comeback win, giving them a 2-1 lead over Cheap Goats in the best-of-five first round series

In one of the best displays of pitching and defense of the 2024 season, Shady Characters and Cheap Goats battled for eight innings before the defending champs pulled ahead and held on to win game three 3-2. Down 2-1 with one out in the top of the sixth, an out away from falling behind Cheap Goats in the series, Lucas hit a solo homer to tie the game and force extra innings. Nate’s RBI single in the top of the eighth was the decisive hit, and Shady Characters moved one game away from returning to the Wiffle Series for the fourth consecutive season.

Christian started on the mound for Cheap Goats, and he allowed a leadoff single to Tom to start the game. Two batters later, Thomas hit an RBI double to score him, putting Shady Characters in front 1-0. Christian retired Billy to strand Thomas at second, ending the inning.

With their backs against the wall, Lucas hit a solo homer, tying the game at 2-2. Christian retired Tom to end the inning, and Shady Characters had pulled even.

He got Courtlen to ground out to left, stranding both runners, sending the game to extra innings.

Christian retired Nate to start the top of the seventh. He intentionally walked Thomas, who had been on fire all series, putting the go-ahead run on base. The maneuver worked, as Christian retired Billy to strand the runner at first, ending the inning.

Tom rolled through the bottom of the seventh, retiring Christian and Dinger, and the game would move to the eighth inning.

Christian retired Lucas to start the top of the eighth, and Tom followed with a one-out double, putting the go-ahead run in scoring position. Shady Characters capitalized, as Nate delivered a one-out RBI single, scoring Tom, and Shady Characters took their first lead of the game. Christian retired Thomas to strand Tom at first, ending the inning, and Cheap Goats trailed 3-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

Cheap Goats Score Fifteen Runs in Second Inning, Even Series with 16-8 Game Two Win Over Shady Characters

Christian went 4-for-6 with a single, a double, two homers, three runs scored, and five RBI, including three hits and four RBI in Cheap Goats’ historic second inning, to lead Cheap Goats to a game two victory

Cheap Goats had the most productive single inning in the history of the EWL playoffs, scoring fifteen runs in the second inning of their game two win over Shady Characters. They only scored one other run in the contest, and they allowed a six-run rally in the bottom of the sixth, but the big second inning was enough to hang on to a 16-8 victory. Joey, who went 4-for-6 with three doubles, a homer, four runs scored, and three RBI, and Christian, who went 4-for-6 with a single, a double, two home runs, three runs scored, and five RBI, led the way for Cheap Goats. Courtlen, Dinger, and Kevin also had three hits each, as Cheap Goats evened up the best-of-five series with Shady Characters 1-1.

Tom started on the mound for Shady Characters, and he rolled through the top of the first, retiring Joey and Courtlen in order.

Tom finally escaped the historically disastrous inning by retiring Dinger for the second out of the inning. Cheap Goats had broken the record for most runs scored in an inning of a playoff game, with 15, and they had also broken the record for most runs scored with one out in an inning of a playoff game, with 10.

Despite being down a substantial margin, Shady Characters showed heart in the bottom of the sixth. Nate led off the inning with a solo homer, cutting the score to 16-3. Thomas followed with a solo shot, and so did Billy, and Shady Characters had gone back-to-back-to-back to cut the score to 16-5. Lucas singled, and two batters later, Nate hit his second home run of the inning, a two-run shot that made the score 16-7. Thomas singled, completing the cycle, and he scored from first when Billy followed with an RBI double, narrowing the Cheap Goats lead to 16-8. Shady Characters showed up in the bottom of the sixth, and Cheap Goats were starting to waver, but the rally would end there. Dinger retired Lucas for the second out of the inning, ending the game and giving Cheap Goats a 16-8 victory in game 2.
