Fish Sticks dominate week 1 action, Caucasians move to 2-0

Late home run propels undermanned Caucasians past Pumice on Slow

Guthrie of the Caucasians swings and missed a pitch from Brad, of Pumice on Slow.

Despite playing with a league minimum three players, the Causasian Vaginas moved to 2-0 on the season when a late Guthrie home run put them ahead 3-2 over Pumice on Slow.

The Caucasians got off to a quick start when Les doubled off Pumice’s starting pitcher, Brad, and was later driven in by a two-run Guthrie home run. After the top of the 1st the Caucasians led 2-0. Guthrie, making his second start, retired the side in the bottom of the 1st, including striking out Gaurav.

Brad gave up a single to Frosty and a double to Guthrie to lead off the top of the 2nd, but got out of the jam without surrendering a run. Pumice on Slow then got on the board in the bottom of the second, evening things up when Luke went deep off Guthrie for a two-run homer driving in Brad. After two innings the score was tied at 2.

Guthrie, having met the one day maximum of 8 innings pitched, was then replaced by Frosty on the mound. Frosty gave up a single to John to start the bottom of the third but then retired the side.

Then both teams’ pitchers settled into a groove. Brad scattered two hits over the third and fourth innings without giving up a run, and Frosty worked his way out of a jam in the fourth, keeping the score at 2-2.

With the sun setting, Guthrie led off the top of the fith win a solo homerun, putting the Caucasians ahead 3-2. Brad then struck out Les and retired Frosty to keep the damage at 1 run.

Frosty retired the side in order in the fifth, and the Caucasians were unable to add any additional runs off Brad in the top of the 6th.

Luke led off the bottom of the 6th by flying out to Les, a remarkable over-the-shoulder catch. Gaurav then singled, putting the tying runner on first. But Frosty got Brad to ground out to Les, stranding the tying runner and ending the game, giving the Caucasian Vaginas the improbable win.

Game Notes:
– Both Les and Luke displayed some incredible fielding prowess in left field.
– Guthrie became the first pitcher to max at 8 innings in league history, and the first to start consecutive games.
– Les recorded an amazing 11 out of 11 possible putouts for the Vaginas.

Fish Sticks hit six bombs in rout of 4 out of 5 Dentists

Braydn of 4 out of 5 Dentists uses his Ichiro-swing to push a ball to right field off Joey of Fish Sticks

In the third game of week 1, Fish Sticks exploded for 14 runs over the second, third and fourth inning to pull away from 4 out of 5 Dentists and move to 2-0 on the season.

Joey was on the mound for Fish Sticks, battling against Jordan of 4 out of 5, the first pitching appearances of the season for both players. Both pitchers retired the sides in order in the first inning heading into the second scoreless.

4 out of 5 Dentists got on the board first when Braydn doubled to drive in Geoff and put the Dentists up 1-0. Joey worked his way out of the jam, stranding two runners and holding the deficit to 1.

Fish Sticks started the damage in the bottom of the second and never looked back. Joey, Blose, and Dinger all singled to start the inning, Dinger’s driving in the first two batters, and following a Vassallo fly out, Joey drove in two runs with his first home run of the season. Blose then flew out to end the second with Fish Sticks up 4-1.

4 out of 5 stranded one runner in the top of the third without scoring a run, and Fish Sticks went back to work with the sticks. In the bottom of the third, Vassallo, Joey and Blose hit back-to-back-to-back solo home runs, the first consecutive home runs in league history, to add three to Fish Sticks total, pushing their lead to 7-1. The bombs chased 4 out of 5 Dentist’s starting pitcher Jordan from the mound, as team captain Ron made the call to the pen bringing in Geoff. He was able to retire the only batter he faced in the third.

In the top of the 4th the Dentists narrowed the lead by a run when Jordan doubled to drive in Geoff from first. The score was 7-2 and was as close as the game would get.

After Vassallo flied out to start the bottom of the 4th, Fish Sticks pummeled Geoff for seven consecutive hits, with each batter scoring. The seven hit stretch included another home run and double from Joey, a double from Blose, and a triple from Dinger. Ron called Braydn in to replace Geoff on the mound. He gave up an RBI single to Vassallo, but then got Joey to ground out to retire the side. After four innings Fish Sticks led 14-2.

Despite a multitude of fielding errors throughout the third and fourth innings, 4 out of 5 hadn’t quit yet. They rallied in the top of the fifth as Geoff and Jordan led off the inning with two singles. Braydn then drove them both and himself in with a three run shot, cutting the lead to 14-5. Joey remained on the mound and retired Ron and Geoff to end the inning.

Fish Sticks added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth when Blose led off the inning with a solo home run, his second of the game. Braydn then retired Dinger and Vassallo to end the inning. Joey then retired Jordan and Braydn in order in the top of the sixth to end the game and give Fish Sticks the win, moving 4 out of 5 Dentists to 0-2.

Game Notes:
– Geoff became the first relief pitcher in EWL history.
– Joey set a league record for RBIs in a single game with 6.
– No one struck out in this game.

Guthrie outduels Ron in Caucasian’s 2-1 win over 4 out of 5 Dentists

Ron of 4 out of 5 Dentists delivers a pitch to Frosty of Caucasian Vaginas in game 2 of Opening Day


The second game of week 1 was a pitcher’s duel as Guthrie of Caucasian Vaginas yielded only one run on four hits to pick up the win. Ron of 4 out of 5 Dentists took the lost despite scattering only 3 hits over six innings.

No runs were scored over the games first three innings as both teams’ pitchers and defenses shut down the opposing lineups. Over the first five innings, Ron of 4 out of 5 Dentists gave up only one hit, to the game’s first batter Les, while striking out one.

Guthrie had a perfect game in tact through 3.5 innings when Jordan of 4 out of 5 scored the games first run on a solo shot to center, putting the dentists up 1-0 midway through 3 innings. Guthrie then retired the side, and after giving up a single to Ron in the bottom of the 4th, retired the next two batters. Heading into the 5th, the Caucasians trailed by one run.

Despite only giving up one hit through five innings, the victory slipped away from Ron and 4 out of 5 in the top of the sixth as the Caucasians came to life. Guthrie singled to lead off the inning. After Les flew out to left field, Frosty belted a two run blast to left, his first hit of the day, putting the Vaginas up 2-1. Ron then retired the side when Morrison grounded out to left field.

With their backs against the wall, 4 out of 5 Dentists looked to rally in the bottom of the sixth when Braydn led off the inning with a single. But when the next batter, Ron, hit the ball to center field, Braydn was pegged out running the bases by Frosty. Guthrie then retired Geoff, the next batter, to end the game, stranding the tying run on first.

Fish Sticks edge Pumice on Slow 5-2 in season opener

Dinger of Fish Sticks gave up only 5 hits over 6 innings to lead the gay fish to a victory in the league’s first game.

Dinger retired the EWL’s first batter, John, but Pumice on Slow loaded the bases with one out in the top of the first. Fish Sticks got out of the jam however, as John grounded out to Vassallo in left field to end the rally.

The EWL’s first run was scored in the bottom of the 2nd inning when a Dinger double off of Pumice on Slow pitcher Gaurav drove in Blose to give Fish Sticks a 1-0 lead. Dinger later scored on a Joey single, and Fish Sticks carried a 2-0 lead into the third.

Pumice on Slow got on the board with a two-run bomb from Gaurav in the top of the third, driving in John, and tying the game at 2. But Fish Sticks immediately answered with two runs in the bottom of the third. Vassallo tripled and scored on a Joey double, and Joey scored on a Blose double. Heading into 4th Pumice on Slow trailed 4-2.

Fish Sticks added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth when a Joey single drove in Vassallo to make the score 5-2. Pumice couldn’t rally though, as Dinger shut them down from the 4th inning on, retiring the final six batters in order.
