Jason of Shady Characters Named Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week

As the playoffs drew near, Jason became the only player during the 2022 regular season to win Wiffler of the Week twice after delivering big performances in two Shady Characters’ wins. The second of the two wins, which came in the last game of the season, moved Shady Characters to 17-3, the best regular season record in the thirteen year history of the EWL.

In a 4-0 win over the Guac Boys, Jason went 3-for-3 with a double, two home runs, three runs scored, and three RBI.

In the record-setting 17th win of the season, an 8-0 victory over Cheap Goats, Jason went 2-for-4 with a double, a homer, a run scored, and two RBI.

In total, Jason went 5-for-7 with two doubles, three home runs, four runs scored, and five RBI in week 10.

This is the second time this season and the fourth time in Jason’s wiffle career that he has been voted Wiffer of the Week. He took home the honors in week 4 of this season, in addition to weeks 9 and week 2 of the playoffs during his rookie season in 2021.

Shady Characters Clinch Best Regular Season Record in League History with 8-0 Shutout Win Over Cheap Goats

Mike went 2-for-4 with a single and a solo home run in Shady Characters record-breaking seventeenth win of the regular season

A year after winning their first title in franchise history, Shady Characters have not let off the gas. Needing two week 10 wins to secure a 17-3 record, Shady Characters won their final two games by a combined score of 12-0, completing two shutout wins and earning the best regular season mark in the 13 year history of the EWL. In an 8-0 win over Cheap Goats, who they defeated in the 2021 Wiffle Series, Dylan, Mike, Tom, Jason, and Nate all went deep, and Tom and Lucas combined on Shady Characters’ second consecutive shutout win.

Dinger started on the mound for Cheap Goats, and he fell behind early. After retiring Dylan to start the game, he allowed a one-out solo homer to Mike. Dinger retired Tom to end the inning, and Shady Characters led 1-0.

Tom started for Shady Characters, and he retired Miller and Joey in order in the bottom of the first.

Jason led off the top of the second with a solo shot, putting Shady Characters ahead 2-0. Lucas doubled, and Tom followed with a single to put runners on the corners with no outs. Dinger got Dylan to ground out to center for the first out of the inning, and Lucas was thrown out trying to score on the play, ending the inning.

Tom rolled through the bottom of the second, sending Joe and Christian down in order.

Shady Characters continued to add to their lead in the top of the third. Mike led off with a single, and Tom drove him in with a two-run homer, giving Shady Characters a 4-0 lead. Two batters later Lucas doubled, and Nate followed with a two-run bomb to right-center, making the score 6-0. Cheap Goats turned to the bullpen, bringing Miller to the mound. He allowed a one-out double to Dylan, but stranded him, retiring Mike to end the inning, and Shady Characters were ahead by six runs.

Tom had reached his innings limit for the week, so Shady Characters brought Lucas to the mound from the bullpen. The first batter he faced, Dinger, doubled. Miller followed with a single, putting runners on the corners with no outs. Lucas got Joey to fly out to the mound, and Lucas doubled up Miller on the play, ending the inning and stranding two runners.

Cheap Goats brought Joey to the mound in the top of the fourth, and he retired Tom and Jason in order.

Joe led off the bottom of the fourth with a double, but Lucas stranded him, striking out Christian and retiring Dinger to end the inning.

Joey retired Lucas and Nate consecutively in the top of the fifth, and Lucas matched him in the bottom half of the innings, sending Miller and Joey down consecutively.

Shady Characters added a few insurance runs in the top of the sixth. Dylan led off the inning with a solo homer, and Shady Characters led 7-0. Two batters later, Tom hit a one-out double, and Jason followed with a double to score him, pushing the lead to 8-0. Joey then retired Lucas to end the inning.

With an eight-run lead, Lucas closed things out in the bottom of the sixth. He retired Joe and Christian in order, wrapping a three-hit shutout, giving Shady Characters an 8-0 win, and with their seventeenth win, Shady Characters finished the best regular season in EWL history.

The win moved Shady Characters to 17-3 on the season, and the loss dropped Cheap Goats to 6-10.

Guac Boys Walk Off with 6-5 Win Over Jack Shack to Close Regular Season

Down 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth, the Guac Boys manufactured two runs, capped by Bohn’s walk-off RBI single, defeating Jack Shack 6-5 to end both teams’ 2022 regular season. Bohn went 4-for-5, Alec and Jude each had three hits, and Brum homered, as the Guac Boys finished the season in second place heading into the playoffs, where they will play Jack Shack in the first round.

Bohn started for the Guac Boys, and after retiring Rob, the first batter he faced, he allowed a solo homer to Austin, which gave Jack Shack a 1-0 lead. Bohn then retired Adam to end the inning.

Jack Shack’s starter Brian allowed a leadoff triple to Alec, but he stranded him at third retiring Jude and Jan to end the inning.

Jack Shack extended their lead in the top of the second. Josh led off with a double and moved to third when Brian followed with a single. Rob then cleared the bases with a three-run homer, putting Jack Shack in front 4-0. Bohn retired Austin and Adam to end the inning, and the Guac Boys trailed by four runs.

Brum led off the bottom of the second with a single, and he moved from first to third when Bohn followed with a single, With no outs and runners at the corners Alec doubled, scoring Brum. The Guac Boys had two runners in scoring position and the tying run at the plate, but Brian buckled down. He retired Jude and Jan to strand both runners, and Jack Shack continued to lead 4-1.

The Guac Boys rallied in the bottom of the fourth, tying the game. Alec singled, and Jude drove him in with a two-run homer that cut the deficit to 4-3. Two batters later, Brum in a solo homer to center, and the game was tied 4-4. Bohn followed with a double, putting the go-ahead run in scoring position, but Brian stranded him, retiring Alec to end the inning.

Brian allowed a leadoff single to Jude in the bottom of the fifth but stranded him at first, retiring Jan and Brum to end the inning, and the game remained tied 4-4.

Bohn retired Rob to start the top of the sixth, but Austin followed with a one-out triple, putting the go-ahead run on third. Adam then singled, scoring Austin, and Jack Shack led 5-4. Bohn retired Josh to strand Adam at first and end the inning, as Jack Shack led by a run heading into the final frame.

Brian remained on the mound to close things out, and he got in trouble. Bohn singled, and two batters later, Jude hit a one-out single. Bohn raced from second to score on the play, tying the game at 5-5. Jan then doubled, putting runners on second and third. Jack Shack elected to load the bases by intentionally walking Brum. The Guac Boys had the bases loaded with one out and the winning run on third. Bohn delivered, hitting an RBI single to score Jude, ending the game and closing out Guac Boys’ season with a 6-5 win.

The win moved the Guac Boys to 9-11 on the season, and the loss dropped Jack Shack to 8-12.

Jack Shack Pull Away Late to Beat Cheap Goats 4-1

After holding Cheap Goats scoreless through four innings, Josh allowed them to even things up at 1-1 in the top of the fifth before his offense responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to win 4-1. Four Jack Shack players reached base in the bottom of the fifth after only four had reached base in the first four innings combined, and Adam’s two-run homer put his squad ahead for good. The win ensured that Cheap Goats would finish as the number four seed in the 2022 playoffs, and Jack Shack will face the Guac Boys in the first round.

Josh started on the mound for Jack Shack, and he allowed a lead off single to Miller, but Jack Shack caught him out trying to advance the hit into a double. Josh then retired Joey to end the inning.

Dinger led off the top of the fifth with a single, and when Miller followed with a single, Dinger was caught out trying to advance to third. Joey then doubled with one out, and Miller moved to third, putting runners on second and third with one out. Joe doubled for the second time in the game, scoring Miller, and the game was tied at 1-1. Cheap Goats had two runners in scoring position and a chance to take the lead, but Josh retired Christian to strand both runners, ending the inning.

Cheap Goats had battled back to tie the game, but Jack Shack would immediately reclaim the lead. Austin led off the bottom of the fifth with a triple, and Adam followed with a two-run homer to right-center, giving Jack Shack a 3-1 lead. Two batters later Brian hit a one out single, and he scored from first when Rob followed with an RBI triple. Christian retired Austin to end the inning, but Jack Shack had taken a 4-1 lead heading into the final frame.

Jason went 3-for-3 to power Shady Characters to their sixteenth win of the regular season, tying Questionable Outfit for the most wins in a single season, with one game to go

Tom pitched a four-hit shutout allowing only one base runner to advance past first base, and Jason went 3-for-3 with a double and two homers as Shady Characters continued to round into post season form coming down the homestretch of the 2022 regular season. Mike and Nate each had two hits for the first place team as they moved one win closer to clinching the best regular season record in EWL history.
