Jack Shack Pull Away Late to Beat Cheap Goats 4-1

After holding Cheap Goats scoreless through four innings, Josh allowed them to even things up at 1-1 in the top of the fifth before his offense responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to win 4-1. Four Jack Shack players reached base in the bottom of the fifth after only four had reached base in the first four innings combined, and Adam’s two-run homer put his squad ahead for good. The win ensured that Cheap Goats would finish as the number four seed in the 2022 playoffs, and Jack Shack will face the Guac Boys in the first round.

Josh started on the mound for Jack Shack, and he allowed a lead off single to Miller, but Jack Shack caught him out trying to advance the hit into a double. Josh then retired Joey to end the inning.

Cheap Goats’ starter Christian retired Rob and Austin in order in the bottom of the first.

Josh matched Christian in the top of the second, sending Joe and Christian down consecutively.

Josh was effective all game on the mound, earning a complete game win while allowing only one run on eight hits

Christian continued to roll in the bottom of the second, retiring Adam before striking out Josh, and the game was scoreless through two innings.

Josh retired Dinger and Miller in the top of the third, and his team would get on the board in the bottom of the inning.

Brian led off with a double, and Rob followed with an RBI double, scoring Brian to put Jack Shack in front 1-0. Jack Shack had a runner on second with on outs, but Christian buckled down, retiring Austin and Adam to strand the runner, ending the inning.

Joe doubled with one out in the top of the fourth, but Cheap Goats couldn’t plate the tying run. Josh retired Christian to strand the runner, ending the inning.

Josh led off the bottom of the fourth with a single, but when Brian followed with a double, Josh was caught in between second and third for the first out of the inning. Christian then retired Rob to strand Brian at second, and the score remained 1-0.

Dinger led off the top of the fifth with a single, and when Miller followed with a single, Dinger was caught out trying to advance to third. Joey then doubled with one out, and Miller moved to third, putting runners on second and third with one out. Joe doubled for the second time in the game, scoring Miller, and the game was tied at 1-1. Cheap Goats had two runners in scoring position and a chance to take the lead, but Josh retired Christian to strand both runners, ending the inning.

Cheap Goats had battled back to tie the game, but Jack Shack would immediately reclaim the lead. Austin led off the bottom of the fifth with a triple, and Adam followed with a two-run homer to right-center, giving Jack Shack a 3-1 lead. Two batters later Brian hit a one out single, and he scored from first when Rob followed with an RBI triple. Christian retired Austin to end the inning, but Jack Shack had taken a 4-1 lead heading into the final frame.

Austin tripled to start a rally in the bottom of the fifth and later scored the winning run for Jack Shack

Dinger doubled to start the top of the sixth, but Josh stranded him, retiring Miller and Joey to end the inning and the game, giving Jack Shack a 4-1 win.

The win moved Jack Shack to 8-11 on the season, and Cheap Goats fell to 6-13.
