Shady Characters Demolish Cheap Goats 19-5 in Record-Breaking Rout

Shady Characters scored thirteen runs with one out in the top of the first inning, breaking their own league record for runs scored with one out, en route to crushing Cheap Goats 19-5 in both teams’ first game in the second half of the 2023 season. Nate, Tom, and Lucas each contribute five hits, Jason had four hits, and Tom went the distance on the mound as Shady Characters extended their lead atop the league standings and started the homestretch of the season with a historically dominant offensive explosion.

Christian took the mound for Cheap Goats, and Shady Characters destroyed him in the first inning. Nate led off the game with a single, and Christian retired the next batter, Mike, for the first out of the inning. Then, the wheels fell off. The next thirteen Shady Characters batters reached base safely and scored, and when the inning was over, they led 14-0. Tom hit a one-out RBI double, scoring Nate, and Shady Characters led 1-0. Jason singled, putting runners on first and third. Lucas cleared the bases with a three-run homer, making the score 4-0. Nate doubled, and Mike followed with an RBI double to score him, putting Shady Characters ahead 5-0. Tom then hit a two-run homer, and the score was 7-0. Jason doubled, and Lucas singled, once again putting runners on the corners with one out. Nate singled, scoring Jason, and Cheap Goats trailed 8-0. Mike emptied the bases with an RBI double, which made the score 10-0. Tom hit his second two-run homer of the inning, and Shady Characters were in front 12-0. At this point, Christian had allowed twelve earned runs on twelve hits in half an inning, and Cheap Goats turned to the bullpen, bringing Dinger to the mound. The first batter he faced, Jason, hit a solo homer, extending the Shady Characters lead to 13-0. Lucas followed with a solo homer, his second home run of the inning, and the back-to-back-to-back homers gave Shady Characters a 14-0 lead half an inning into the game. Dinger got the next batter, Nate, to fly out to center for the second out of the inning, and Shady Characters had broken their own record for most runs scored with one out in an inning by two runs, leading 14-0 after the top of the first.

Cheap Goats showed some heart in the bottom of the first, getting on the scoreboard early. Joey led off with a solo shot, and Miller followed with his own solo homer. The back-to-back homers made the score 14-2, and it looked like the game could be a real shootout. Tom, Shady Characters’ starter, allowed a double to Christian, and Dinger followed with a single, putting runners on the corners with no outs. Two batters later, Miller hit a one-out RBI single to score Christian, and the score was 14-3. Cheap Goats had two runners on with one out, but Tom retired Christian to strand both runners, ending the inning.

Dinger got Mike to fly out to left for the first out in the top of the second, and when Tom singled to center, he was caught out trying to extend the hit into a double, ending the inning.

Tom retired Dinger for the first out in the bottom of the second, and Joey followed with a solo homer, his second of the game, cutting the score to 14-4. Tom then retired Miller to end the inning.

Jason led off the top of the third with a solo homer, and Shady Characters led 15-4. Lucas followed with a triple, but Dinger stranded him, retiring Nate and Mike to end the inning.

Jason went 4-for-6 with a single, a double, two home runs, four runs scored, and two RBI as Shady Characters rolled past Cheap Goats

Tom rolled through the bottom of the third, retiring Christian and Dinger in order.

Tom doubled to start the top of the fourth, and two batters later, Lucas hit an RBI single to score him, giving Shady Characters a 16-4 lead. Nate followed with a two-run blast, and Shady Characters led 18-4. Dinger retired Mike to end the inning, and Cheap Goats once again trailed by fourteen runs.

Joey led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo homer, his third solo shot of the game, and the score was 18-5. Tom retired the next two hitters, Miller and Christian, to end the inning.

Dinger retired Tom and Jason in order in the top of the fifth, and the score remained 18-5.

Joey hit a one-out double in the bottom of the fifth, but Tom stranded him, retiring Miller to end the inning.

Shady Characters added one final run to their incredible tally in the top of the sixth. Nate hit a one-out double, and Mike drove him in with an RBI triple, giving Shady Characters a 19-5 lead. Dinger retired Tom for the second out of the inning, and Cheap Goats would need to score fourteen runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend the game.

Tom remained on the mound to close things out in the bottom of the sixth, and he made quick work of Cheap Goats. He retired Christian and Dinger in order, ending the game and giving Shady Characters a 19-5 victory.

The win moved Shady Characters to 8-3 on the season, and the loss dropped Cheap Goats to 4-7.

Alec Powers Guac Boys to 12-8 Win Over Jack Shack

2023 has been a career year for Alec, and his power surge appears to have continued into the second half of the season. He went 5-for-7 with a single, a double, three home runs, five runs scored, and four RBI, leading the Guac Boys to a 12-8 victory over Jack Shack. Brum also had a big game, going 4-for-7 with two doubles, a triple, a homer, three runs scored, and four RBI. One of the most notable EWL debuts in recent history also occurred, as Michael suited up for Jack Shack in his first career appearance, going 5-for-6 with a single, a double, three triples, two runs scored, and an RBI.

Josh started on the mound for Jack Shack, and the first batter he faced, Alec, went deep, putting Guac Boys up 1-0 immediately. Two batters later, Bohn hit a one-out single, but Josh retired Form for the second out, stranding the runner and ending the inning.

Alec took the mound for the Guac Boys, and he fell behind early. Ryan matched Alec by leading off the bottom of the first with a homer, tying the game at 1-1. Jon and Josh each followed with doubles, putting runners on second and third with no outs. Michael then singled, loading the bases for Ryan. Ryan hit an RBI single, scoring Jon, and Jack Shack led 2-1. Alec got Jon to ground out for the first out of the inning, but Josh scored on the play, making the score 3-1. Josh then doubled, clearing the bases, and Jack Shack had taken a 5-1 lead. Alec retired Michael for the second out of the inning, and the Guac Boys trailed by four runs.

Josh got Bohn to ground out for the first out of the inning, but Brum scored from second on the play, and the score was 5-3. Josh then retired Form for the second out, ending the inning.

The Guac Boys trailed by two runs, but they had a burst of offense in the top of the fourth, taking the lead. Form led off with a triple, and Alec followed with a two-run homer to left, tying the game at 6-6. Two batters later, Bohn hit a solo shot, putting the Guac Boys in front 7-6. Form followed with a solo homer, making the score 8-6. Alec followed with yet another homer, his third of the game, and Guac Boys’ back-to-back-to-back homers gave them an 9-6 lead. Josh retired Brum to end the inning, and Jack Shack were behind by two runs.

Brum led off with a double, and two batters later, Form hit an RBI single to score him, giving the Guac Boys a 10-7 lead. Alec singled to put runners on the corners with one out, and Brum emptied the bases with an RBI triple, making the score 12-7. Josh retired Bohn to strand Brum at third, ending the inning, and the Guac Boys led by five runs.

Tom of Shady Characters Named Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week

Tom logged one of the most productive games in EWL history and reached base safely in his first ten at-bats of week 5, leading his team to a split for the week and locking them into sole possession of first place in the standings at the halfway point of the regular season. He hit for the cycle for the second time in his career, went deep five times, drove in twelve runs, and was voted Wiffler of the Week for week 5 of the 2023 season.

In a 13-9 win over Jack Shack, Tom was perfect, going 7-for-7 with a single, two doubles, a triple, three home runs, four runs scored, and eight RBI, hitting for the cycle.

In a 7-6 loss to the Guac Boys, he went 3-for-5 with a double, two homers, two runs scored, and four RBI.

In total, Tom went 10-for-12 with a single, three doubles, a triple, five home runs, six runs scored, twelve RBI and hit for the cycle in week 5.

This is the sixth time Tom has been voted Wiffler of the Week. He won the award three times in 2019, once in 2021, and most recently for week 3 of the 2022 season.

Guac Boys Score Seven Unanswered Runs to Beat Shady Characters 7-6

Form went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, and his fourth inning solo homer ignited the rally that led the Guac Boys to victory over Shady Characters

Down 6-0 in the fourth, the Guac Boys rallied to score seven consecutive runs across the fourth and fifth innings to complete a 7-6 comeback win over Shady Characters in the last game of the first half of the 2023 EWL season. Form started the rally with a solo homer in the fourth, and he was followed by homers from Jan, Brum, and two from Alec as the Guac Boys retained sole possession of second place in the standings at the midpoint of the season.

Bohn took the mound for the Guac Boyd, and Shady Characters got to him early. After retiring Nate for the first out of the inning, Bohn allowed back-to-back homers to Mike and Tom, putting the Guac Boys in a 2-0 hole. Bohn then retired Lucas to end the inning.

Tom started for Shady Characters, and after allowing a leadoff double to Alec, he retired Brum and Bohn to strand the runner, ending the inning.

Shady Characters grew their lead in the top of the second. Mike hit a one-out double, and Tom followed with a two-run homer, making the score 4-0. Bohn retired Lucas for the second out of the inning, and the Guac Boys trailed by four runs.

Tom allowed a one-out double to Form in the bottom of the second, but he stranded him, retiring Alec for the second out of the inning.

Mike hit a one-out single in the top of the third, and Tom reached base for the tenth consecutive at-bat, hitting an RBI double that put Shady Characters ahead 5-0. Bohn retired Lucas to strand Tom at second, ending the inning, and Shady Characters led by five runs.

Tom had reached his innings limit for the week, and Shady Characters brought Lucas to the mound in the bottom of the third. He retired Brum and Bohn in order, and the score remained 5-0.

Nate tripled to start the top of the fourth, and he scored when Mike grounded out to left for the first out of the inning. Bohn retired Tom for the second out, and Shady Characters were in front 6-0.

Down six runs and having managed only two hits through four innings, the Guac Boys came to life in the bottom of the fourth. Lucas retired Jan for the first out of the inning, but the next batter, Form, hit a solo homer to right-center, putting the Guac Boys on the board. Alec followed with a solo shot, and the back-to-back homers cut the Shady Characters lead to 6-2. Lucas retired Brum for the second out of the inning, and the Guac Boys were down four runs.

Form then tripled, and Alec followed with another two-run homer for the Guac Boys, tying the game at 6-6. Brum then hit a solo homer, and the Guac Boys had scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth without recording an out. Lucas retired Bohn and Jan to end the inning, but the Guac Boys had pulled ahead 7-6 heading into the sixth inning.

Bohn remained on the mound to close things out for the Guac Boys, and he made quick work of Shady Characters in the top of the sixth. He retired Tom and Lucas in order, ending the game, giving the Guac Boys a 7-6 come-from-behind victory.

The win moved the Guac Boys to .500 with a 5-5 record at the midway point of the season. Shady Characters fell to 7-3 with the loss, but they remained atop the season standings through ten games.

Jack Shack Stuns Cheap Goats 5-4 in Extra Innings

Ryan led off the game with a home run, tripled, and scored two runs, in addition to pitching the complete game win for Jack Shack, as they topped Cheap Goats 5-4 in extra innings

A short-handed Jack Shack squad that was missing both co-captains and featured a free-agent acquisition and an emergency substitute player rallied from a 4-1 deficit to beat Cheap Goats 5-4 in seven innings. Despite their core players only combining for six hits in seven innings, Jack Shack kept the game close with good pitching and sound defense, eventually outlasting Cheap Goats for the victory.

Christian started on the mound for Cheap Goats, and the first batter he faced, Ryan, hit a leadoff homer to put Jack Shack in front 1-0. Christian retired the next two batters, Jon and Chris, to end the inning.

Ryan took the mound for Jack Shack, and he also got into trouble early. After retiring Joey for the first out, he allowed a one-out double to Miller. Christian followed with a two-run shot to right-center, and Cheap Goats took a 2-1 lead. Dinger singled, and Joey followed with a two-run homer, making the score 4-1. Ryan then retired Miller to end the inning, and Jack Shack trailed by three runs.

George Phillips, Jack Shack’s emergency sub, tripled to lead off the top of the second. Christian got Ryan to ground out to left for the first out of the inning, but George scored on the play, cutting the deficit to 4-2. Christian then retired Jon to end the inning, and he had reached his innings limit for week 5.

Ryan rolled through the bottom of the second, retiring Christian and striking out Dinger.

Dinger took the mound for Cheap Goats in the top of the third, and after allowing a one-out single to George, he retired Ryan for the second out of the inning, stranding the runner at first.

Chris hit a one-out single in the top of the fourth, but Dinger stranded another runner, retiring George for the second out of the inning.

Dinger hit a one-out double in the bottom of the fourth, but Ryan fanned Joey to strand the runner, ending the inning, and the score remained 4-2.

Ryan started the top of the fifth with a triple, and Jon drove him in with an RBI double, cutting the Cheap Goats lead to 4-3. Chris then singled, scoring Jon, and the game was tied at 4-4. Dinger retired George and Ryan to strand Chris at first, ending the inning, but Jack Shack had come back to tie the game.

Miller doubled to lead off the bottom of the fifth, and he moved to third when Christian followed with a single. Cheap Goats had runners on the corners with no outs, but Ryan found a way to escape the inning unscathed. He retired Dinger and Joey, stranding two runners, and the score remained tied heading into the sixth inning.

Dinger retired Jon and Chris in order in the top of the sixth, and Cheap Goats would need a single run to win the game in the bottom half of the inning.

Miller once again led off an inning with a double, putting the winning run in scoring position with no outs. But Ryan once again stranded a Cheap Goats runner. He got retired Christian and Dinger to strand Miller at second, ending the inning and sending the game to extras.

Chris, making a leaping catch in right field, helped Jack Shack’s defense limit Cheap Goats to only four runs in seven innings

Jack Shack didn’t wait long to take command of the game in extra innings. George led off the top of the seventh with a solo homer, putting Jack Shack ahead 5-4. Two batters later, Jon hit a one-out double, giving Jack Shack an opportunity to take a two-run lead. Dinger buckled down, however retiring Chris to strand the runner at second, and Cheap Goats would trail by a run heading into the bottom of the seventh.

Ryan remained on the mound to close things out, and he was efficient. He retired Joey and Miller in order in the bottom of the seventh, ending the game and giving Jack Shack a surprising 5-4 win.

The win moved Jack Shack to 4-6 at the midway point in the 2023 season. The loss dropped Cheap Goats to 4-6 and into a tie with Jack Shack in the season standings at the halfway mark.
