Joey of Cheap Goats Named Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week

Joey continued his resurgent year at the plate, hitting seven homers, driving in twelve runs, and hitting leadoff home runs to start both of Cheap Goat’s week 6 games, the second week he has accomplished that feat this year. His power surge helped lead Cheap Goats to a split of their games, and he was voted Wiffler of the Week for week 6 of the 2023 season.

In a 19-5 loss to Shady Characters, Joey was the lone bright spot on the Cheap Goats offense, going 4-for-5 with a double, three home runs, three runs scored, and three RBI.

In a 16-8 win over Jack Shack, Joey went 6-for-8 with two singles, four home runs, five runs scored, and nine RBI.

In total, Joey went 10-for-13 with two singles, a double, seven home runs, eight runs scored, and twelve RBI in week 6.

This is the fifteenth time in Joey’s career that he has been voted Wiffler of the Week, and the first time since week 3 of the 2020 season when he split Wiffler of the Year honors with his Cheap Goats teammate, Brett.

Joey Goes Deep Four Times as Cheap Goats Roll Past Jack Shack 16-9

All four Cheap Goats players had at least four hits, led by Joey who had four homers and drove in nine runs, in a runaway 16-9 win over Jack Shack. Cheap Goats went up 9-0 early and scored six runs in the top of the sixth to pull away, claiming their first victory in the second half of the season.

Jon took the mound for Jack Shack, and the first batter he faced, Joey, led off the game with a solo homer, making the score 1-0. Miller tripled, and Christian drove him in with an RBI double, putting Cheap Goats ahead 2-0. Dinger then doubled, scoring Christian, and the score was 3-0. Joey hit his second bomb of the inning, a two-run shot, and Cheap Goats led 5-0. Jon got Miller to fly out for the first out of the inning before allowing a one-out double to Christian. The rally would end there, as Jon retired Dinger to strand Christian at second, ending the inning, and Jack Shack were down five runs.

Christian started for Cheap Goats, and he rolled through the bottom of the first, retiring Ryan and Jon in order.

Cheap Goats extended their lead in the top of the second. Jon retired Joey for the first out, but the next batter, Miller, hit a solo homer, giving Cheap Goats a 6-0 lead. Christian singled, and Dinger doubled, putting runners on second and third with no outs. Joey once again cleared the bases, this time with a three-run bomb, and Cheap Goats led 9-0. Jon retired Miller to end the inning, and Jack Shack trailed by nine.

Christian cruised through the bottom of the second, sending Josh and Michael down consecutively.

Jack Shack turned to the bullpen in the top of the third, bringing Ryan to the mound. It was effectively initially, as he retired Christian and Dinger in order, and the score remained 9-0.

Jack Shack got on the board in the bottom of the third when Ryan led off the inning with a triple, and Jon followed with a two-run shot that made the score 9-2. Two batters later, Michael hit a one-out triple, but Christian stranded him retiring Ryan to end the inning.

Joey led off the top of the fourth with a solo shot, his third of the game, and Cheap Goats led 10-2. Ryan retired the next two batters, Miller and Christian, to end the inning.

Jon led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo homer, making the score 10-3. Josh followed with a solo homer, and the back-to-back jacks cut the Cheap Goats lead to 10-4. Cheap Goats made a quick call to the bullpen, bringing Dinger to the mound. He allowed a double to Michael, and Ryan followed with a double, scoring Michael to narrow the deficit to 10-5. Two batters later, Josh hit a two-run homer, his second home run of the inning, and Jack Shack were behind 10-7. Dinger and Cheap Goats escaped the inning when Michael flew out to right for the second out, and Jack Shack had cut Cheap Goats’ lead in half.

Ryan continued to pitch effectively in the top of the fifth, retiring Dinger and Joey in order, and Jack Shack were down three runs.

Dinger rolled through but bottom of the fifth. After allowing a one-out double to Jon, he struck out Josh to end the inning, and the score remained 10-7.

Cheap Goats added a pile of insurance runs in the top of the sixth, pulling away. Miller started the inning with a triple, and Christian followed with a triple to score him, extending the Cheap Goats lead to 11-7. Dinger hit an RBI single to score Christian, and Cheap Goats led 12-7. Joey singled, putting runners on first and second with no outs. Miller then singled, scoring Christian from second, and Cheap Goats were in front 13-7. Dinger then singled, scoring Joey and the lead was 14-7. Joey followed with a single, which allowed Miller and Christian to score, but Dinger and Joey were caught out on the play in an unusual double play. Jack Shack had got out of the inning, but Cheap Goats had scored six runs, extending their lead to 16-7.

Christian returned to the mound in the bottom of the sixth. He retired the first batter he faced, Michael, before allowing a one-out double to Ryan. Jon followed with his third home run of the game, a two-run bomb that cut the score to 16-9. The rally would end there, however, as Christian retired Josh to end the inning and the game, giving Cheap Goats a 16-9 victory.

The win moved Cheap Goats to 5-7 on the season, and the loss dropped Jack Shack to 4-8.

Shady Characters Storm Past Guac Boys 11-3

Mike and Tom had four hits each, and Jason went deep twice, driving in five runs, as Shady Characters went up big early and held on to beat the Guac Boys 11-3. Tom and Lucas combined on the mound to allow three runs on six hits, and Shady Characters extended their lead atop the EWL standings.

Tom started on the mound for Shady Characters, and after allowing a leadoff double to Alec, he retired Brum and Bohn in order, ending the inning.

Bohn took the mound for the Guac Boys, and he fell behind early. After retiring the first batter, Nate, he allowed a one-out triple to Mike. Tom followed with a triple, scoring Mike, and Shady Characters led 2-0. Jason then crushed a two-run blast to right field, putting Shady Characters ahead 3-0. Bohn retired Lucas for the second out of the inning, and the Guac Boys trailed by three.

The Guac Boys responded in the top of the second, narrowing the deficit. Tom retired Form, but then allowed a one-out solo homer to Alec, making the score 3-1. Brum followed with a solo shot of his own, and the back-to-back homers made the score 3-2. Tom then retired Bohn to end the inning.

Shady Characters pounded Bohn in the bottom of the second, opening up a big lead. Bohn retired Nate to start the inning, and then things got messy. Mike hit a one-out double, and he moved to third when Tom followed with a single. Jason came to the plate with one out and runners on the corners, and he cleared the bases with a three-run blast to right-center, giving Shady Characters a 6-2 lead. Lucas doubled, and Nate drove him in with an RBI single, making the score 7-2. Mike singled, putting runners on the corners, and Tom followed with an RBI double, plating both baserunners and putting Shady Characters in front 9-2. Bohn retired Jason to strand Tom at second, ending the inning, and Shady Characters led by seven runs.

Tom had reached his innings limit for the week, and Lucas came to the mound for Shady Characters. The first batter he faced, Form, hit a solo homer, cutting the score to 9-3. Alec followed with a double, but Guac Boys couldn’t rally. Lucas retired Brum and Bohn to strand the runner at second, ending the inning, and the Guac Boys trailed by six runs.

Lucas singled to start the bottom of the third. Nate followed with a single, but when Mike grounded out to center, Nate was doubled up, ending the inning.

Mike started the bottom of the fifth with a single. Bohn retired Tom for the first out, and when Jason followed with a single, he was caught out trying to extend the hit into a double, ending the inning.

Form led off the top of the sixth with a double, but Lucas shut things down, retiring Alec and Brum to strand the runner, ending the inning, giving Shady Characters an 11-3 victory.

The win moved Shady Characters to 9-3 on the season, and the loss dropped Guac Boys to 6-6.

Shady Characters Demolish Cheap Goats 19-5 in Record-Breaking Rout

Shady Characters scored thirteen runs with one out in the top of the first inning, breaking their own league record for runs scored with one out, en route to crushing Cheap Goats 19-5 in both teams’ first game in the second half of the 2023 season. Nate, Tom, and Lucas each contribute five hits, Jason had four hits, and Tom went the distance on the mound as Shady Characters extended their lead atop the league standings and started the homestretch of the season with a historically dominant offensive explosion.

Christian took the mound for Cheap Goats, and Shady Characters destroyed him in the first inning. Nate led off the game with a single, and Christian retired the next batter, Mike, for the first out of the inning. Then, the wheels fell off. The next thirteen Shady Characters batters reached base safely and scored, and when the inning was over, they led 14-0. Tom hit a one-out RBI double, scoring Nate, and Shady Characters led 1-0. Jason singled, putting runners on first and third. Lucas cleared the bases with a three-run homer, making the score 4-0. Nate doubled, and Mike followed with an RBI double to score him, putting Shady Characters ahead 5-0. Tom then hit a two-run homer, and the score was 7-0. Jason doubled, and Lucas singled, once again putting runners on the corners with one out. Nate singled, scoring Jason, and Cheap Goats trailed 8-0. Mike emptied the bases with an RBI double, which made the score 10-0. Tom hit his second two-run homer of the inning, and Shady Characters were in front 12-0. At this point, Christian had allowed twelve earned runs on twelve hits in half an inning, and Cheap Goats turned to the bullpen, bringing Dinger to the mound. The first batter he faced, Jason, hit a solo homer, extending the Shady Characters lead to 13-0. Lucas followed with a solo homer, his second home run of the inning, and the back-to-back-to-back homers gave Shady Characters a 14-0 lead half an inning into the game. Dinger got the next batter, Nate, to fly out to center for the second out of the inning, and Shady Characters had broken their own record for most runs scored with one out in an inning by two runs, leading 14-0 after the top of the first.

Cheap Goats showed some heart in the bottom of the first, getting on the scoreboard early. Joey led off with a solo shot, and Miller followed with his own solo homer. The back-to-back homers made the score 14-2, and it looked like the game could be a real shootout. Tom, Shady Characters’ starter, allowed a double to Christian, and Dinger followed with a single, putting runners on the corners with no outs. Two batters later, Miller hit a one-out RBI single to score Christian, and the score was 14-3. Cheap Goats had two runners on with one out, but Tom retired Christian to strand both runners, ending the inning.

Dinger got Mike to fly out to left for the first out in the top of the second, and when Tom singled to center, he was caught out trying to extend the hit into a double, ending the inning.

Tom retired Dinger for the first out in the bottom of the second, and Joey followed with a solo homer, his second of the game, cutting the score to 14-4. Tom then retired Miller to end the inning.

Jason led off the top of the third with a solo homer, and Shady Characters led 15-4. Lucas followed with a triple, but Dinger stranded him, retiring Nate and Mike to end the inning.

Nate followed with a two-run blast, and Shady Characters led 18-4. Dinger retired Mike to end the inning, and Cheap Goats once again trailed by fourteen runs.

Joey led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo homer, his third solo shot of the game, and the score was 18-5. Tom retired the next two hitters, Miller and Christian, to end the inning.

Dinger retired Tom and Jason in order in the top of the fifth, and the score remained 18-5.

Joey hit a one-out double in the bottom of the fifth, but Tom stranded him, retiring Miller to end the inning.

Shady Characters added one final run to their incredible tally in the top of the sixth. Nate hit a one-out double, and Mike drove him in with an RBI triple, giving Shady Characters a 19-5 lead. Dinger retired Tom for the second out of the inning, and Cheap Goats would need to score fourteen runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend the game.

Tom remained on the mound to close things out in the bottom of the sixth, and he made quick work of Cheap Goats. He retired Christian and Dinger in order, ending the game and giving Shady Characters a 19-5 victory.

The win moved Shady Characters to 8-3 on the season, and the loss dropped Cheap Goats to 4-7.

2023 has been a career year for Alec, and his power surge appears to have continued into the second half of the season. He went 5-for-7 with a single, a double, three home runs, five runs scored, and four RBI, leading the Guac Boys to a 12-8 victory over Jack Shack. Brum also had a big game, going 4-for-7 with two doubles, a triple, a homer, three runs scored, and four RBI. One of the most notable EWL debuts in recent history also occurred, as Michael suited up for Jack Shack in his first career appearance, going 5-for-6 with a single, a double, three triples, two runs scored, and an RBI.

Josh started on the mound for Jack Shack, and the first batter he faced, Alec, went deep, putting Guac Boys up 1-0 immediately. Two batters later, Bohn hit a one-out single, but Josh retired Form for the second out, stranding the runner and ending the inning.

Josh retired Brum to end the inning, and Jack Shack were behind by two runs.
