Brian Pitches Gem, Turbo and Dustin Crush as Jack Shack Stomp Guacamol-yay 13-2 in Game 1

Turbo continued his strong 2020 season into the playoffs, going 5-for-5 and hitting for the cycle, helping to lead Jack Shack to a game 1 win over Guacamol-yay

Defending Wiffle Series champions Jack Shack swept through the 2019 playoffs, winning their first round series and the Wiffle Series without dropping a game. They started their 2020 title defense in impressive fashion, blitzing Guacamol-yay 13-2 in game 1 behind monster games from Dustin, Turbo, and Brian, who also allowed only three hits in the complete game win. Dustin and Turbo each went 5-for-5, as Dustin crushed three homers, and Turbo hit for the cycle. Guacamol-yay played without two of their key cogs on offense, and it showed, as they were never in game 1, and Brian retired the last nine batters he faced to close out an easy victory.

Brian rolled through the top of the first, retiring Matt, making his EWL debut, and Jan, in order.

Jack Shack got out their sticks in the bottom of the first, taking a huge lead immediately. Brian led off the inning with a double, and Dustin followed with a double, putting runners on second and third. Turbo doubled, scoring Brian to put Jack Shack on the board at 1-0. Josh K, the Guacamol-yay starter, retired Doc for the first out of the inning, but Dustin scored on the play, giving Jack Shack a 2-0 lead. Blaine followed with a single, scoring Turbo, and the score was 3-0. Jack Shack’s next three batters turned the fireworks on. Brian hit a two-run homer, driving in Blaine, and Jack Shack led 5-0. Dustin followed with a mammoth solo shot, extending the lead to 6-0. Turbo made it back-to-back-to-back jacks for the Shack, and Guacamol-yay trailed 7-0. Josh K finally escaped the inning, retiring Doc, but Jack Shack had taken a commanding lead one inning into the game.

Guacamol-yay showed some spirit in the top of the second. Josh K doubled, and Ryan drove him in with an RBI double, cutting the score to 7-1. Matt followed with his first career hit, an RBI single that scored Ryan, and Guacamol-yay looked poised for a rally. Unfortunately, Matt’s single would be the last hit that Guacamol-yay registered in the entire game. Brian retired Jan and Josh K, ending the inning, and Jack Shack led by five.

Jack Shack made up the difference in the bottom of the second. Blaine led off the inning with a single, and he moved from first to third when Brian followed with a double. Dustin cleared the bases with a three-run bomb, and Jack Shack’s lead was 10-2. Turbo followed with a triple, but Josh K avoided further damage, retiring Doc and Blaine to strand him at third, ending the inning.

Brian rolled through the top of the third, retiring Ryan and Matt in order.

Brian connects on one of his four hits in the game. He went 4-for-5 with three doubles, a home run, three runs scored, and three RBI.

Dustin hit a one-out double in the bottom of the third, and Turbo drove him in with an RBI triple, making the score 11-2. Turbo tried to extend the triple into an inside-the-park homer, but was pegged out at the plate, ending the inning.

Brian continued to quiet Guacamol-yay in the top of the fourth, sending Jan and Josh K down consecutively.

Guacamol-yay turned to their bullpen, bringing Ryan to the mound, and Jack Shack added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth. Blaine doubled with one out, and Brian drove him in with an RBI double, extending the score to 12-2. Brian was called out trying to extend the double into a triple, ending the inning.

Down ten runs, Guacamol-yay continued to struggle in the top of the fifth, as Brian sent Ryan and Matt down in order.

Dustin led off the bottom of the fifth with a solo homer, his third round-tripper of the game, and Jack Shack led 13-2. Turbo followed with a single, but when Doc flew out to Ryan, Turbo was caught in between bases, ending the inning.

Brian remained on the game to close things out, and he made it easy in the top of the sixth. He sent Jan and Josh K down in order, the eighth and ninth consecutive batters he retired, and Jack Shack had won game 1 by the score of 13-2.

Brian was in control on the mound, pitching the complete game win while allowing only three hits, all of which came in the second inning.

The win gave Jack Shack a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five first round series.
