Late home run propels undermanned Caucasians past Pumice on Slow

Guthrie of the Caucasians swings and missed a pitch from Brad, of Pumice on Slow.

Despite playing with a league minimum three players, the Causasian Vaginas moved to 2-0 on the season when a late Guthrie home run put them ahead 3-2 over Pumice on Slow.

The Caucasians got off to a quick start when Les doubled off Pumice’s starting pitcher, Brad, and was later driven in by a two-run Guthrie home run. After the top of the 1st the Caucasians led 2-0. Guthrie, making his second start, retired the side in the bottom of the 1st, including striking out Gaurav.

Brad gave up a single to Frosty and a double to Guthrie to lead off the top of the 2nd, but got out of the jam without surrendering a run. Pumice on Slow then got on the board in the bottom of the second, evening things up when Luke went deep off Guthrie for a two-run homer driving in Brad. After two innings the score was tied at 2.

Guthrie, having met the one day maximum of 8 innings pitched, was then replaced by Frosty on the mound. Frosty gave up a single to John to start the bottom of the third but then retired the side.

Then both teams’ pitchers settled into a groove. Brad scattered two hits over the third and fourth innings without giving up a run, and Frosty worked his way out of a jam in the fourth, keeping the score at 2-2.

With the sun setting, Guthrie led off the top of the fith win a solo homerun, putting the Caucasians ahead 3-2. Brad then struck out Les and retired Frosty to keep the damage at 1 run.

Frosty retired the side in order in the fifth, and the Caucasians were unable to add any additional runs off Brad in the top of the 6th.

Luke led off the bottom of the 6th by flying out to Les, a remarkable over-the-shoulder catch. Gaurav then singled, putting the tying runner on first. But Frosty got Brad to ground out to Les, stranding the tying runner and ending the game, giving the Caucasian Vaginas the improbable win.

Game Notes:
– Both Les and Luke displayed some incredible fielding prowess in left field.
– Guthrie became the first pitcher to max at 8 innings in league history, and the first to start consecutive games.
– Les recorded an amazing 11 out of 11 possible putouts for the Vaginas.
