Joey of Cheap Goats Voted Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week for Week 3

Joey went 8-for-11 with seven extra base hits in week 3, and was voted PBR Wiffler of the Week for the second consecutive week.

2019 EWL Wiffler of the Year, Joey, earned Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week honors in week 3. This is the second consecutive week that Joey has earned Wiffler of the Week honors.

Joey continued his strong start to the 2020 season, which is now at a record-setting pace, with two impressive games in week 3. In a win over Shady Characters, Joey went 5-for-5 with three doubles, two home runs, four runs scored, and three RBI. In a win over Jack Shack, he went 3-for-6 with a single, two home runs, three runs scored, and three RBI. In total, Joey went 8-for-11 in week 3, leading Cheap Goats to two wins and a 5-1 record through the first three weeks of the season. Through three weeks, Joey was already approaching his 2019 Wiffler of the Year season totals.

This is the fifteenth time in Joey’s career that he has been named EWL Wiffler of the Week, and the first time he has been honored in back-to-back weeks.

Cheap Goats have now won all three of the Wiffler of the Week awards to this point in the 2020 season. This is the 4th time in league history that a team has won three or more consecutive Wiffler of the Week awards. In 2012 the Caucasians had four consecutive winners with Ron, Morrison, Frosty, and Les across weeks 7 through 10 of the regular season. In 2018, Loss Mitigation had three or more consecutive Wiffler of the Week winners an incredible three times throughout the season. Mike (twice) and Bob won weeks 1 through 3, Mike, Nate and Bob won weeks 6 through 8, and Bob (three times) and Mike won four in a row from week 10 through the 2018 playoffs.

Sean Goes 6-for-6 as Guacamol-yay Storm Past Shady Characters 14-6

Sean was a perfect six-for-six with two singles, a triple, three homers, and six RBI to lead Guacamol-yay to a win against Jack Shack

Four of Guacamol-yay’s five players had four or more hits, and Sean went a perfect 6-for-6 with three home runs, as Guacamol-yay pulled out to a huge lead early and held on to defeat Shady Characters 14-6, pulling into a tie for second in the 2020 EWL standings. Jan and Jude both also went 5-for-6, as Jan hit three triples and Jude scored four runs in the Guacamol-yay win. Guacamol-yay utilized a trio of pitchers, and Josh K picked up the victory.

Tom K took the mound for Shady Characters, and Guacamol-yay crushed him early, taking an early lead. Jan tripled to start the game, and a batter later, Josh singled, driving him in to make the score 1-0. Sean then followed with a two-run blast to center, and Guacamol-yay led 3-0. Jude then singled, and two batters later, Jan tripled for the second time in the inning, scoring Jude and putting Guacmol-yay ahead 4-0. Tom K finally escaped the inning, retiring Josh K for the second out.

Shady Characters narrowed the deficit in the bottom of the first. Dylan led off the game with a solo homer off Josh K, making the score 4-1. Sam then tripled, and he scored when Brad grounded out to center for the first out of the inning. Josh K retired Tom K for the second out, and the score was 4-2.

Guacamol-yay piled on their lead in the top of the second. Sean led off with a triple, and Jude followed with a triple, scoring Sean to make the score 5-2. Ryan then hit an RBI double, scoring Jude, and the score was 6-2. Jan singled, putting runners on the corners, and Josh K followed with a single, scoring Ryan, and Guacamol-yay led 7-2. Sean then cleared the bases, hitting his second homer of the game, a three-run shot that scored Josh K and Jan, making the score 10-2. Jude followed with a single, and moved from first to third when Ryan doubled, putting two runners in scoring position. Guacamol-yay had reached base safely in their first eight at-bats of the inning. Tom K finally recorded an our when Jan flew out to right, but Jude tagged and scored, extending the Guacamol-yay lead to 11-2. Ryan was caught in between bases on the play, after Jude had scored, which ended the inning. Guacamol-yay had scored seven runs in the inning, and led by nine.

Lucas singled to start the bottom of the second, and Dylan followed with a single, putting two runners on with no outs. Shady Characters were poised to rally, but Josh K cracked down and escaped the jam. He retired Sam and Brad consecutively, stranding both runners and ending the inning.

Tom K was replaced on the mound by Sam heading into the top of the third, and Guacamol-yay continued to add runs to their tally. Sean singled with one out, and Jude drove him in with an RBI double that extended the Guacamol-yay lead to 12-2. Ryan then singled, scoring Jude from second, and the score was 13-2. It looked as if Guacamol-yay would turn the game into a laugher, but Sam retired Jan for the second out of the inning, ending the rally.

Guacamol-yay turned to Jude to pitch the bottom of the third. He gave up a one-out single to Lucas, but Shady Characters couldn’t plate the run, as Dylan was retired for the second out of the inning, and the score remained 13-2.

Shady Characters finally got out of an inning unscathed in the top of the fourth. Sam allowed a one-out single to Sean, but retired Jude to strand the runner, ending the inning.

Down eleven, Shady Characters showed life in the bottom of the fourth. Sam led off with a single, and he moved from first to third when Brad followed with a single. With one out and runners on the corners, Jude fanned Tom K for the first out of the inning. Lucas, however, followed with an RBI triple, clearing the bases and narrowing the deficit to 13-4. Dylan then doubled, scoring Lucas, and the score was 13-5. Sam followed with a single, which scored Dylan, and Shady Characters had pulled to 13-6. Brad then doubled, and Shady Characters had two on and one out. But the rally would end there, as Jude got Tom K to fly out to right, ending the inning. Shady Characters had plated four runs, and had cut the score to 13-6.

Shady Characters made another pitching change in the top of the fifth, sending Lucas to the mound. He allowed a one-out triple to Jan, Jan’s third of the game, but Lucas did not allow a run, as he struck out Josh K to strand Jan at third, ending the inning.

Guacamol-yay also changed pitchers in the fifth, as Jan took the mound. He allowed a one-out single to Dylan, but stranded the runner, retiring Sam to end the inning and the score remained 13-6.

Guacamol-yay added one additional insurance run in the top of the sixth. Sean led off the inning with a solo shot, his third home run of the game, and Guacamol-yay led 14-6. June followed with a single, and when Ryan followed with a single, Jude was caught in between bases for the first out of the inning. Jan then singled, putting two runners on with one out, but Lucas would not allow a run, as he got Josh K to fly out to the mound, stranding two runners and ending the inning.

Jan remained on the mound to close things out for Guacamol-yay, and Shady Characters never threatened. Jan struck out Brad for the first out of the inning and then retired Tom K, giving Guacamol-yay a 14-6 win.

The win moved Guacamol-yay to 3-3 on the season, and the loss dropped Shady Characters to 1-5.

Dinger Pitches Three Hitter as Cheap Goats Crush Jack Shack 14-1

Dinger had his best pitching outing of the season, allowing only one run on three hits in a complete game win for Cheap Goats

Dinger allowed only three hits in a dominant performance on the mound, and was one out away from a shutout in Cheap Goats’ 14-1 blowout of Jack Shack. Brett went 5-for-6 to lead Cheap Goats, with a single, two doubles, and two homers, as Cheap Goats went ahead big early and never looked back.

Dave was named the starting pitcher for Jack Shack, and he was hit hard in the top of the first. After retiring the first batter of the game, Joey, Brett doubled. Jordan followed with a two-run blast, putting Cheap Goats ahead 2-0. Christian then doubled, and Dinger drove him in with an RBI double that made the score 3-0. Joey then hit a two-run shot to left-center, extending the Cheap Goats lead to 5-0. Dave finally escaped the inning when Brett grounded out to center for the second out.

Dinger allowed a one-out triple to Turbo in the bottom of the first, but Jack Shack couldn’t capitalize. Dinger retired Brian for the second out of the inning, and the score remained 5-0.

Christian singled with one out in the top of the second, but Dave avoided another big Cheap Goats inning, retiring Dinger to strand the runner and end the inning.

Dave singled to start the bottom of the second, but it would be the last Jack Shack hit until the sixth inning. Dinger retired Nate and Turbo to strand the runner, ending the inning.

Brett hit a solo homer with one out in the top of the third, making the score 6-0. Dave retired Jordan to end the inning.

Dinger began a run of perfect innings in the bottom of the third, sending Brian and Dave down in order.

Dave matched Dinger in the top of the fourth, retiring Christian and Dinger consecutively.

Brett makes an outstanding bobbling catch for an out in right field

Nate and Turbo were sent down consecutively in the bottom of the fourth, and Cheap Goats added to their lead in a big way in the fifth.

Brett doubled with one out and Jordan followed with his second two-run homer of the game, putting Cheap Goats ahead 8-0. Christian then singled, and Dinger followed with a single to put two runners on with one out. Joey also singled, scoring Christian, and the score was 9-0. Brett then launched a three-run blast to right-center, and Cheap Goats had blown up their lead to 12-0. Jordan followed with a double, but Dave finally got out of the inning, retiring Christian for the second out, as Jack Shack trailed by twelve.

Dinger pitched his third consecutive perfect inning in the bottom of the fifth, retiring Brian and Dave in order.

Cheap Goats added two more to their lead in the top of the sixth. Dinger doubled, and Joey hit his second two-run blast of the game, which put Cheap Goats in front 14-0. Brett followed with a single, and it looked as if Cheap Goats would have their second historic offensive output of the season. But it wouldn’t happen, as Jordan flew out for the first out, and Brett was doubled up on the play, ending the inning.

Jack Shack trailed by fourteen runs, and Dinger had retired eight consecutive batters heading into the bottom of the sixth. Dinger continued to roll, retiring Nate for the first out of the inning. One out away from a two-hit shutout, Turbo played spoiler to Dinger and Cheap Goats, hitting a one-out solo homer to right-center, putting Jack Shack on the board. They couldn’t rally, however, as Dinger retired Brian to end the inning and the game, giving Cheap Goats a 14-1 victory.

Joey’s two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth gave Cheap Goats an insurmountable lead, as Cheap Goats maintained their spot atop the EWL standings with an 8-3 win over Shady Characters. Joey went 5-for-5 with three doubles, two homers, four runs scored, and three RBI, and Brett went 4-for-5 with a single, two doubles, a triple, a run scored, and three RBI to lead Cheap Goats to victory. Christian scattered three runs in another solid performance on the mound.

Christian retired the side in order in the top of the first, sending Dylan and Tom K down consecutively.

Tom K took the mound for Shady Characters, and he fell behind early. Joey led off the game with a double, and Brett drove him in with an RBI triple, making the score 1-0 after two batters. Jordan then hit a deep sac fly to left, scoring Brett to put Cheap Goats ahead 2-0. Tom K retired Christian for the second out of the inning.

Cheap Goats couldn’t extend the rally, however, as tom K retired Jordan and Christian, stranding Brett at second and ending the inning.

Brad singled to start the top of the fourth, his third consecutive single. Christian continued to strand Shady Characters baserunners however, retiring Dylan and Tom K to end the inning, maintaining the two-run lead.

Dinger singled with one out in the bottom of the fourth, and moved from first to third when Joey followed with a double. It looked as if Cheap Goats would add to their lead, but Tom K retired Brett, stranding two runners to end the inning.

Sam doubled to start the top of the fifth, but once again, Shady Characters couldn’t narrow the two-run deficit. Christian retired Brad and Dylan, stranding the runner at second, ending the inning.

Christian doubled with out out in the bottom of the fifth, and Dinger followed with an RBI single. Christian scored from second, and Cheap Goats led 6-3. With one out and a runner on, Joey hit a two-run home run to left, extending the Cheap Goats lead to 8-3. Brett followed with a single, and it looked as if Cheap Goats would blow it open. But Tom K escaped without giving up a huge inning. Jordan singled, but Brett was caught in between bases for the second out, ending the inning.

Down 8-3, Shady Characters would need a big rally in the top of the sixth. It didn’t happen. Christian continued to roll, retiring Tom K and Sam in order, ending the game and giving Cheap Goats the win.

Cheap Goats moved to 4-1 on the season, and Shady Characters dropped to 1-4.

Brian Delivers on the Mound, Leads Rag Tag Jack Shack Lineup to 7-3 Win Over Guacamol-yay

Brian moved to 3-0 on the season, pitching the complete game win for Jack Shack

Brian allowed only three runs, all in the sixth inning, en route to a complete game win for Jack Shack in a 7-3 defeat of Guacamol-yay. Down two of their best players for week 3, Jack Shack were led by Brian, who went 4-for-6, and Dave, a free agent playing in his first game for Jack Shack, who went 5-for-6.

Josh K took the mound for Guacamol-yay, and he struck out Nate, EWL veteran and former champion, also playing in his first game as a free agent for Jack Shack. He then retired Turbo to end the inning.

Jan led off the bottom of the first with a triple, but over-ran the base and was retired for the first out of the inning. Brian then fanned Josh K, ending the first inning with the game scoreless.

Jack Shack extended their lead in the top of the third. Dave doubled to lead off, and two batters later, Turbo tripled for the second consecutive at-bat, scoring Dave to make the score 3-0. Brian then doubled, scoring Turbo, and Jack Shack led 4-0. Dave followed with a single, putting runners on the corners, but Josh K avoided further damage, retiring Nate to strand both runners, ending the inning.

Josh K doubled with one out in the bottom of the third, but Guacmol-yay couldn’t plate the run, as Brian retired Sean for the second out, and the score remained 4-0.

Jack Shack continued to grow their lead in the top of the fourth. Brian singled with one out, and he moved from first to third when Dave followed with a double. With one out and two runners in scoring position, Nate doubled, driving in two runs, and Jack Shack led 6-0. Josh K then got Turbo to fly out to the mound to end the inning, and Guacamol-yay trailed by six.

Jude singled to start the bottom of the fourth, but Brian continued to strand Guacamol-yay runners. He got Ryan to fly out to right, and Jan flew out to center, stranding the runner and ending the inning.

Brian doubled to start the top of the fifth, and Dave followed with a single, putting runners on second and third with no outs. It looked as if Jack Shack would continue to pull away, but Josk K buckled down. He retired Nate and Turbo, stranding both runners in scoring position, and Guacamol-yay continued to trail 6-0.

Brian continued to roll in the bottom of the fifth. He fanned Josh K for the second time in the game for the first out of the inning, and then retired Sean to end the inning.

Jack Shack added an insurance run in the top of the sixth, when Brian provided his own run support, leading off the inning with a solo homer. Josh K retired Dave and Nate to end the inning, and Jack Shack led 7-0 heading into the final frame.

Brian pitched the complete game win for Jack Shack, and also went 4-for-6 at the plate with a single, two doubles, and a homer.

Brian had pitched five shutout innings, allowing only four hits, but Guacamol-yay finally got to him in the bottom of the sixth. Jude led off the inning with a triple, and Ryan got Guacamol-yay on the board with a two-run homer, cutting the deficit to 7-2. Jan then tripled for the second time in the game, and Josh K drove him in with an RBI double. Guacamol-yay had cut the Jack Shack lead from seven to four and had a runner in scoring position. Brian remained on the mound, and he got back on track after allowing hits to the first four batters of the inning. He retired Sean and Jude consecutively, stranding Josh K at second, and ending the game, giving Jack Shack a 7-3 win.

The win moved Jack Shack to 3-2 on the season, and the loss dropped Guacamol-yay to 2-3.
