
Morrison went a perfect 7-for-7 with 4 singles, 3 homers, 6 runs scored, and 7 RBI in a monster performance
In the midst of a chase for the batting title, Morrison went an unreal 7-for-7 to lead Cookies & Cream as they lit up Eastbound & Dahn for 14 runs in a 14-8 win.
Mark started on the mound for Eastbound & Dahn, who could still potentially clinch the #2 seed heading into the game. He started hot, retiring Dinger and Guthrie in order in the top of the first.
Staff ace Guthrie started for Cookies & Cream. He retired Mark for the first out of the inning, but the next batter, Jason, making his EWL debut, crushed a solo homer to deep right-center field to put Eastbound & Dahn ahead 1-0. Guthrie then retired Trevar to end the inning.
Cookies & Cream bounced back in the top of the second. Joey led off the inning with a single, and Morrison followed with a two-run blast to left field, putting Cookies & Cream ahead 2-1. Mark then retired Dinger, and after giving up a one-out single to Guthrie, retired Joey to end the inning, stranding a runner.
Guthrie retired the side in order in the bottom of the second, maintaining the 2-1 lead.
In the top of the third, Cookies & Cream put together their finest inning of offense in the 2013 season. Morrison led off the inning with a single, and moved to second when Dinger followed with a single. With runners on first and second, Guthrie singled, scoring Morrison to extend the lead to 3-1. Joey then followed with yet another single, scoring a run, making the score 4-1. Morrison followed with even another single, and one run scored for a 5-1 lead. Dinger came to the plate and hit the sixth consecutive single for Cookies & Cream, scoring another run to make the score 6-1. Mark then retired Guthrie, who grounded out for the first out, but a run scored on the play, pushing the score to 7-1. With a man on and one out, Joey launched a double into the tree, scoring another runner to make the score 8-1. With one out and Joey on second, Morrison came to the plate and crushed a two-run homer, his third hit of the inning, making the score 10-1. Mark then retired Dinger for the second out of the inning, but the 8-run inning gave Cookies & Cream a substantial lead.
Eastbound & Dahn got to work chipping away at the deficit in the bottom of the third. Jason led off the inning with a solo blast to right, his second home run in two career EWL at-bats, making the score 10-2. Trevar followed with a double, and moved to third when Helal grounded out for the first out of the inning. Mark followed with a one-out double, scoring Trevar and cutting the score to 10-3. Jason then hit a single, scoring Mark to make the score 10-4. The rally ended there, as Guthrie retired Trevar to end the inning.
Cookies & Cream couldn’t string together more hits in the top of the fourth, as Mark retired Guthrie and Joey in order for a perfect frame.
Eastbound continued to crawl back into the game in the bottom of the fourth. With a big lead, Cookies & Cream turned to their bullpen, replacing Guthrie with Joey on the mound. Helal led off the inning with a triple, and after Mark flew out to right for the first out of the inning, Jason crushed a two-run blast, his third of the game, to cut the deficit to 10-6. Joey then retired Trevar to end the inning, but the lead had been reduced to four runs.
Cookies & Cream pulled further ahead in the top of the fifth, starting with Morrison and Dinger who each singled to lead off the inning. With two men on, Guthrie singled, but Morrison was caught in between bases on the play for the first out of the inning. With one out and runners on first and second, Joey singled off the wall, scoring a run to make the score 11-6. Morrison then followed with a single, scoring another run to extend the lead to 12-6. Dinger hit the sixth consecutive single for Cookies & Cream, scoring a run to make the lead 13-6. Mark then retired Guthrie to end the inning.
Joey retired Helal for the first out in the bottom of the fifth, but Mark followed with a solo shot to right, making the score 13-7. Jason, who had been a red hot 4-for-4 to start his career, was fanned by Joey for the second out of the inning.
Mark retired Joey to start the top of the sixth, but Morrison would get one more hit. With one out, he crushed a solo shot, his third homer of the game, to make the score 14-7. Dinger then grounded out for the second out of the inning.
Down seven runs, Eastbound needed a big rally in the bottom of the sixth. Trevar led off the inning with a single and moved to second when Helal grounded out to right for the first out. The next batter, Mark, singled, scoring Trevar from second to cut the score to 14-8. Jason followed with a single, but Mark was caught in between bases on the play for the second out, ending the game and giving Cookies & Cream a 14-8 win.
The victory moved Cookies & Cream to 11-7 on the season, and the loss dropped Eastbound & Dahn to 8-11.
