After being shutout for the first time in 129 games (and only the second time in franchise history), Questionable Outfit bounced back in game two of the Wiffle Series, taking an early lead and riding Bob’s arm and bat to victory, evening the series at one game each. Questionable Outfit had not been shutout since game three of the 2013 Wiffle Series before being blanked in game one, but got their bats out in game two, as Bob homered twice, and Tom and Miller each added homers. Bob was in control on the mound, allowing only two runs on five hits, both solo homers to Erich.

Bob took the mound for Questionable Outfit, and using a somewhat new delivery, he was in command early. He retired Joey and Erich in order in the top of the first, and he provided his own run support in the bottom half of the inning.

After struggling to plate runs in game one, Bob set the tone early for Questionable Outfit in game two. For the fifth consecutive year, Cookies & Cream and Questionable Outfit advanced to the Wiffle Series and will face off for Wiffle glory in the best-of-seven championship series. In 2013, Cookies & Cream swept Questionable Outfit, and Questionable Outfit seem to be paying them back ever since. Questionable Outfit, the three time defending champions, beat Cookies & Cream in the 2014, ’15, and ’16 Wiffle Series, and now will have a chance to win their fourth straight title. Cookies & Cream, coming off a stunning comeback in their first round series with the Ham Slams, got the upper hand in game one of the Wiffle Series. Jordan pitched a complete game shutout, his second in a row, and Joey went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a home run as Cookies & Cream took an early lead in the series with a 4-0 win.

Riding their momentum from the first round, Cookies & Cream jumped ahead early, getting to Questionable Outfit’s starter, Miller. Miller retired Joey for the first time in the game in the top of the fifth, but Erich followed with a deep solo homer to right-center, putting Cookies & Cream ahead 4-0. Miller retired Jordan to end the inning, and Questionable would need a four run rally.

Mike started the bottom of the fifth with a double, but Jordan clamped down again, retiring Miller and Bob in order to strand the runner, and the score was 4-0 through five innings.

Dinger singled to start the top of the sixth, but when Joey grounded out to the mound, Miller tagged Dinger, caught in between first and second, to end the inning.

Questionable Outfit had rallied to shock Cookies & Cream multiple times in the past, including a dramatic bottom-of-the-seventh inning comeback in game one of the 2015 Wiffle Series. They looked to repeat history, and it appeared as if it may happen. Mike singled with one out, and Miller followed with a double, putting two runners in scoring position. It was the most Questionable Outfit had threatened, but the rally would end there. Jordan got Bob to fly out to right field, stranding both runners, ending the inning and the game.

Questionable Outfit won the first three games of the series during the previous week, and had Cookies & Cream on the ropes heading into game four. Cookies started Joey on the mound for the third consecutive game. He had pitched well in a game two loss, and started game three effectively before being hit hard later in the outing. Questionable Outfit jumped on him immediately in game four and made the path very challenging for Cookies & Cream to extend the series. After Joey retired Bob to start the game, Kimble doubled, and he scored when Mike hit an RBI single to make the score 1-0. Miller then followed with a double, scoring Mike, and the score was 2-0. Bob cleared the bases with a two-run homer, and Questionable Outfit had taken a 4-0 lead with only one out in the game. Joey finally escaped the inning, retiring Tom, but Cookies were in a big hole in the series and the game.

Miller earned his second win of the series, shutting out Cookies & Cream in game 3 while allowing only six hits

Questionable Outfit took a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven championship series with Cookies & Cream behind four hits and three homers from Bob and a commanding shutout by Miller on the mound. The 10-0 win put Questionable Outfit only one victory away from clinching their third consecutive title, and Cookies & Cream would have to win four straight games to knock Questionable off the throne.

Joey had pitched well for Cookies & Cream in game two, allowing only three runs against the potent Questionable offense, but Bob outdueled him, allowing only one run. Cookies put Joey back on the mound to start game two. Things didn’t start as well. Bob continued to have a great series, leading off the game with a solo homer to center, and Questionable Outfit led 1-0. Two batters later Mike would hit a one-out single, but Joey minimized the damage, retiring Miller to strand the runner and end the inning having only allowed a single run.

Questionable Outfit started Miller on the mound after a solid performance in game one that resulted in a Questionable Outfit victory. He was effective, but not as sharp as usual in game one, and it looked as if he would struggle in game three. Guthrie led off with a double, and he moved to third on a Blose single. Cookies had runners on the corners with no outs and were threatening, but Miller buckled down, retiring Joey and Jordan, who both popped out to the mound. He stranded both runners, ended the inning, and maintained the one-run Questionable lead.

Tom slapped a solo shot to left to make the score 2-0, and Mike followed with a solo homer, putting Questionable ahead 3-0. Miller then hit a towering home run to left, over the tree, and the back-to-back-to-back homers gave Questionable Outfit a 4-0 lead. Mike broke the streak with a double, and Guthrie retired the next batter, Miller, to finally end the inning. Questionable Outfit had unleashed a barrage of power, and they led by six runs.

The 2016 Ellsworth Wiffleball League Wiffle Series Championship commences tonight at 6:30PM at the Wiffle Diamond in Shadyside as Questionable Outfit will face off against rivals Cookies & Cream in a best-of-seven series to determine the league champion. Two-time defending champions Questionable Outfit, led by three-time defending Wiffler of the Year Bob, will look to become the first team to three-peat as EWL champs. Cookies & Cream, the 2013 EWL champions, will look to avenge losses to Questionable Outfit in the past two Wiffle Series.

In it’s 6th year of existence, the Ellsworth Wiffleball League is a four team adult wiffleball league in Shadyside. The 20-game regular season begins in May, and a champion is crowned in August. The 2016 season is nearing a conclusion, and the champion will be decided in a best-of-seven series with Questionable Outfit serving as the home team for games 1, 2, 5, and 7.

Cookies & Cream defeated the Ham Slams in game 5 of their best-of-five first round series to advance to the 2016 Wiffle Series. Their opponents, Questionable Outfit, were the 2016 regular season EWL Pennant winners and swept Eastbound & Dahn in their first round series to advance to the title series. Cookies & Cream and Questionable Outfit met seven times in the regular season, with Questionable Outfit winning the season series 4-3. The series was tied 3-3 heading into the final game of the regular season, when Cookies & Cream led late but succumbed to a Questionable Outfit comeback that clinched the #1 seed and pennant.

Questionable Outfit boasts a powerful offense led by Wiffler of the Year candidate Bob, one of the league’s most dangerous hitters in Tom, EWL Pitch King candidate Miller, and one of the game’s finest fielders, Mike.

Cookies & Cream has a consistent offense and a strong pitching attack led by Pitch King candidate Guthrie, the game’s most feared hitter Blose, a hobbled veteran in Joey, rookie Jordan, and one of league’s most clutch hitters Dinger.

The first four games of the series will take place tonight, and barring a sweep, the series will conclude next week.
