Cheap Goats scored six unanswered runs in the middle innings and capitalized on a strong pitching performance from Christian to defeat Jack Shack 6-4, their second straight win. Dinger homered twice, Joey connected for a two-run shot, and Courtlen added a solo blast as Cheap Goats overcame Jacob’s three-run homer for Jack Shack, winning a defensive battle, and moving to .500 on the season.
Christian started on the mound for Cheap Goats and worked around a leadoff single by Jon M in the top of the first. Jacob and Jon D were both retired, and the game remained scoreless.
Jon M started for Jack Shack, and he retired Joey and Kevin in order in the bottom of the first.
Dave grounded out to begin the top of the second before Jon M tripled. Christian escaped the threat, retiring Jacob to strand Jon M at third and keep the game scoreless.
Courtlen and Christian were retired in a quick bottom of the second as Jon M matched Christian with another scoreless inning.
Jack Shack broke through in the top of the third. Dave and Jon M each singled to put two runners on with no outs. Jacob cleared the bases, connecting on a three-run homer, giving Jack Shack a 3-0 lead. Jon D was retired to end the inning, and Cheap Goats trailed by three runs.
Cheap Goats answered immediately in the bottom of the third. Dinger led off the inning with a solo homer, cutting the deficit to 3-1. Conor followed with a single before Joey launched a two-run homer, tying the game at 3-3. Kevin was retired for the first out of the inning, but Courtlen followed with a solo homer, giving Cheap Goats a 4-3 lead. Christian then flew out to end the inning.
Dave grounded out and Jon M flew out in a quick top of the fourth as Christian worked another scoreless frame.
Cheap Goats added insurance in the bottom of the fourth. Dinger opened the inning with his second solo homer of the game, putting Cheap Goats ahead 5-3. Conor, Joey, and Kevin singled in succession, loading the bases for Courtlen. Jon M avoided catastrophe, getting Courtlen to ground out to left. Conor scored on the play, and Cheap Goats led 6-3. Cheap Goats had two runners in scoring position, but Jon M retired Christian to strand both runners, ending the inning.
Jacob and Jon D were retired in order in the top of the fifth as Christian continued to cruise.
Dinger flew out to begin the bottom of the fifth before Conor singled again, his third of the game. Jon M avoided further damage, getting Joey to flyout, stranding the runner and ending the inning.
Jack Shack mounted one final threat in the top of the sixth. Jon M singled with one out, and Jacob followed with a single, putting runners at first and second. Jon D drove in Jon M with an RBI double, cutting the deficit to 6-4. The tying runs were on base, and the go-ahead run was at the plate, but Christian escaped the jam, retiring Dave to end the game as Cheap Goats clinched their second straight victory.
The win moved Cheap Goats to 3-3 on the season while Jack Shack fell to 2-4.
