6 Aug

Miller, who prepares to catch a fly ball late in the game, earned the win on the mound for Questionable in game one and went 5-for-6 at the plate

Both Questionable Outfit and Eastbound & Dahn continued where they left off in the regular season in game one of their best-of-five first round series, as Questionable’s offense was explosive and Eastbound’s defense was porous. Questionable Outfit took advantage of countless fielding errors, jumping out to a large lead in the first inning, and they never looked back, cruising to a 16-2 victory. Bob went 6-for-7, hitting for the cycle, with a single, three doubles, a triple, and a home run, while his teammate, Miller, went 5-for-6 with a single, three doubles, a home run, and four RBI.

Miller started on the mound for Questionable Outfit, and he retired Eastbound in order in the top of the first.

Christian started for Eastbound & Dahn, and his defense failed him immediately and often. After an unthinkable number of fielding errors, which Questionable Outfit took full advantage of, Eastbound & Dahn trailed 9-0. Questionable reached base safely in seven of their first eight at-bats, all eight of which should have been recorded as outs.

Bob led off the game with a single and moved to third when Tom followed with a double. Mike then hit an RBI single, scoring Bob to make the score 1-0. Bob doubled to put runners on second and third, and Tom cleared the bases with an RBI double, putting Questionable Outfit ahead 13-0. Mike followed with a single, but he was doubled off when Miller flew out to center and Mike did not tag up, ending the inning.

Eastbound & Dahn would get on the board in the top of the fourth when Nate O led off the inning with a solo shot to left-center, and the score was 13-1. Christian followed with a double, and he moved to third when Kyle singled, putting runners on the corners with no outs. Miller got BK to ground out to center for the first out of the inning, but Christian scored on the play, cutting the Questionable lead to 13-2. Dustin Outduels Jordan on Mound in Ham Slams 2-1 Game One Victory over Cookies & Cream

Dustin scored the game’s first round and was in prime form on the mound, allowing only one run on three hits to the streaking Cookies & Cream offense, and earned the victory in game 1 of the first round series

The Cookies & Cream offense came into the 2017 EWL playoffs surging, but Dustin cut their legs out from under them, allowing only one run on three hits as the Ham Slams jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five first round series with a 2-1 victory. Jordan had a strong performance on the mound, giving up only two runs to the Ham Slams, but they were enough for the Slams to hold on to steal game one. Josh’s timely double in the top of the sixth was the difference, as he later scored on a strange single from Steve off the centerfield wall, giving Dustin all of the run support that he would need.

Steve singled off Jordan to start the game in the top of the first, but the Slams wouldn’t move him from first. Jordan got Dan to fly out to shallow left, and then fanned Josh to end the inning.

Josh led off the top of the sixth with a double, and two batters later, Steve hit a line drive to right-center. The ball hit the bottom of the fence, and Josh raced around to score on the play. After some debate as to whether Steve had reached first safely and whether the run would score, Steve was ruled safe at first but out trying to extend the hit into a double. The inning was over, but the run counted, and the Ham Slams had a two run advantage entering the bottom of the sixth.

Down to their last at-bat, Cookies & Cream showed some life in the bottom of the sixth, but not enough. With one out, Jordan roped a solo homer to deep left-center, breaking up the shutout and putting Cookies & Cream on the board at 2-1. Dinger then came to the plate, and Dustin got him to fly out, ending the inning and the game, as the Ham Slams won game one 2-1.
