After trailing early, Eastbound & Dahn, despite missing two of their most productive players, stormed back to top Questionable Outfit with an 8-7 win.

Questionable Outfit, the EWL’s newest and least experienced team, started off their season in incredible fashion, as their first five hitters reached base safely. Reilly, Kimble, and Mike combined for five straight singles, and after the top of the first Questionable Outfit had a 4-run lead. Reilly held the lead on the mound in the bottom of the second, holding Eastbound scoreless.

Neither team scored in the second, and after Helal shut down Questionable Outfit in the top of the third, Eastbound rallied in the bottom half of the inning. Helal, Trevar, and Tim each had hits, Helal with three in the inning, as Eastbound & Dahn scored five runs to take a 5-4 lead after three.

Questionable Outfit immediately responded, as Reilly led off the top of the fourth with a solo homer, and Mike later hit a two-run shot, putting Questionable Outfit back in front 7-5.

Guthrie pitched a 3-hit shutout, holding the Ham Slams in check for a 9-0 opening day win

Guthrie was awarded the Pitch King as best pitcher for the 2011 and 2012 seasons, and he started 2013 where he left off, pitching a gem on the mound as Cookies & Cream topped the Ham Slams 9-0 in the season opener.

Cookies & Cream, comprised of former members of the Fish Sticks and Caucasians, looked like a veteran team in the first game of the 2013 season. The Ham Slams, returning three starters with two rookies, looked rusty out of the gate, particularly at the plate. Morrison, the 2012 Wiffler of the Year, threw out the ceremonial first pitch for EWL Commissioner Joey.

Guthrie blanked the Ham Slams in the top of the first, and Morrison led off his 2013 season in prime form with a solo homer to put Cookies up 1-0. After holding the Slams hitless in the second, C&C added to their lead in the bottom half of the inning. Joey hit a three-run homer, which was later followed by Dinger hitting a solo shot, and after two innings Cookies & Cream were up 5-0.

Opening Day 2013 Set for May 7th

2 May

openingday2013

The 2013 Ellsworth Wiffleball League regular season will begin Tuesday, May 7th at 6:30PM. 2013 Wiffler of the Year Morrison will throw out the first pitch to the commissioner. A lot has changed since the 2012 season, but the one constant will be 4 teams of superior wifflers vying to become Wiffle Series champions.

The Caucasians, who captured the 2012 Wiffle Series, have merged with the 2012 runners-up and 2011 Wiffle Series champion Fish Sticks to become the V-Sticks. These iconic EWL franchises will unite to take on the newcomers in the EWL.

The Ham Slams will be the only team returning as a whole from 2012. The Slams gained valuable wiffle experience throughout the 2012 season and put up a great effort in the postseason. They will look to build on their 2012 season and contend for the title in 2013.

One of the new teams in 2013, Eastbound & Dahn, is comprised of three EWL veterans and a rookie. Last year’s batting champion, Ivan, who played with the Fish Sticks in 2012, has joined forces with former players for Downtown Bobby Brown, Kyle and Mark, to create what they hope to be a wiffle power house.

Finally, the EWL will welcome Questionable Outfit, a team comprised entirely of rookies, to the league in 2013. The upstart franchise will make their debut opening day, as they hope to prove their merits on the wiffle diamond early and often.
