As they have multiple times this season, the Ham Slams rode a big scoring inning to victory, taking advantage of a depleted Questionable Outfit roster and picking up an 11-6 victory.

Questionable Outfit would be without two of their best players, Mike and Bob, for their week 5 matchups. Tim started on the mound for the Slams, and he retired Tom and Nate, in order in the top of the first.

The Slams got on the board right away in the bottom half of the inning. Josh doubled to lead off, and Tim drove him in with an RBI single that made the score 1-0. Dan then doubled, scoring Tim to put the Slams ahead 2-0. Questionable’s starter, Nate, then got Kessler to ground out for the first out of the inning, but Tim scored on the play and the Slams led 3-0. Josh was then retired to end the inning with the Ham Slams up three runs.

Questionable Outfit picked up Mo Vaughn to replace their missing players, and Mo was making his first appearance since the 2014 season. He flew out for the first out of the inning, and after Tom doubled, Tim escaped the inning by getting Nate to groundout for the second out.

Tim helped his own cause in the bottom of the second, leading off the inning with a solo homer, putting the Ham Slams in front 4-0. Nate then got Dan and Kessler to each groundout to left, ending the inning.

Tom doubled with one out in the top of the third, and Nate drove him in with an RBI double, cutting the score to 4-1. Tim then got Mo to groundout to right, stranding Nate at second.

The Ham Slams would pull away in the bottom of the fourth with one of their now signature big innings. Kessler doubled to get things started, and Josh drove him in with an RBI single that made the score 5-1. Tim then doubled, moving Josh to third, and Dan singled, but no runs scored and the bases were loaded for Kessler. Nate got him to fly out for the first out of the inning, keeping all three runners from advancing. But the next hitter, Josh, doubled, and drove in two runs to make the score 7-1. Tim then smacked a three-run bomb to left-center, emptying the bases and extending the Ham Slams lead to 10-1. Dan followed with a solo shot, and the back-to-back homers put the Ham Slams ahead 11-1. Nate finally got Kessler to fly out to end the inning, and Questionable Outfit found themselves trailing by ten.

Questionable showed some resilience in the top of the fifth, and they put a dent in the Ham Slams lead. Mo doubled for his first hit of the game, and he scored when Tom followed with an RBI triple that made the score 11-2. Nate then grounded out to left, but Tom scored on the play, and the score was 11-3. Mo followed with his second double of the inning, but Questionable couldn’t drive him in, as Tim retired Tom for the second out of the inning.

Nate pitched a perfect frame in the bottom of the fifth, and he held the deficit at eight runs.

Questionable had an eight-run margin to overcome in the top of the sixth, and they made a run at it. Nate singled to start the inning and moved to second when Mo followed with a single. Tom then crushed a three-run home run to left, and Questionable had cut the Ham Slams’ lead to 11-6. Two batters later, Mo hit a one-out triple, but the rally would end there, as Tim retired Tom for the second out of the inning, stranding the runner and giving the Ham Slams the win.

The win moved the Slams to 6-4 on the season, tied with Cookies & Cream for second place at the halfway mark. The loss dropped Questionable Outfit to 7-2, and they remained in first place.
