Les Hits Walk-Off Single to Give Cookies & Cream 7-6 Win Over Eastbound & Dahn

After a dramatic at-bat, Les hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to give Cookies & Cream their first win in 2017

In what may be his final career appearance on the Wiffle Diamond, Les, who has played sparingly since being an original member of 2012 champions the Caucasians, suited up for Cookies & Cream and hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to lead them to victory. After an epic at-bat that included nearly ten foul balls, Les roped a single to left, scoring Jordan from second and giving Cookies & Cream the win.

Guthrie started on the mound for Cookies & Cream, and after giving up a one-out single to BK in the top of the first, he retired Helal to strand the runner and end the inning.

BK took the mound for Eastbound, and he cruised through the bottom of the second, retiring the side in order, and the game was tied through an inning.

Guthrie continued to roll in the top of the second, sending both of Eastbound’s Nates down in order.

Cookies would get on the board in the bottom of the second immediately when Erich led of the inning with a solo shot to right, and the score was 1-0. Two batters later, Les hit a one out single, and Guthrie followed with a two-run shot to left-center, putting Cookies ahead 3-0. BK then retired Joey, ending the inning.

Guthrie remained effective in the top of the third, sending BK and Helal down in order, and Cookies led 3-0.

Guthrie would provide himself some insurance runs in the bottom of the third. Erich and Jordan each singled, and after a Les groundout that advanced the runners, Guthrie hit a one-out double that cleared the bases, and Cookies & Cream led 5-0. Helal retired Joey for the second out of the inning, and Eastbound trailed by five.

After dominating the first half of the game, Guthrie got into trouble in the fourth and wouldn’t make it through the inning. The first batter he faced, Nate O, tripled, and Nate C drove him in with an RBI double to put Eastbound on the board. After a BK single put runners on the corners, Helal doubled to empty the bases, and the score was 5-3. The Eastbound rally continued when Nate O hit a two-run blast to center, tying the game at 5-5. Eastbound had chased Guthrie from the game and tied the score with five consecutive hits in the bottom of the third. Cookies brought Joey into the game, and he escaped the inning with the game tied. He retired Nate C for the first out of the inning, and after a BK single, Helal was retired for the second out of the inning.

Eastbound also made a pitching change, bringing Helal to the mound in the bottom of the fourth. He retired the side in order, and the score was 5-5 heading into the fifth.

Nate C would single with out out in the top of the fifth, but he was stranded when BK grounded out to end the inning.

Cookies & Cream would reclaim the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Guthrie hit a one-out solo homer, making the score 6-5. Helal retired Joey to end the inning, and Eastbound trailed by a run heading into their final at-bat.

Joey retired Helal to start the inning, and Eastbound was down to their last out when Nate O hit a line drive off the fence. After a series of fielding and throwing errors, Nate raced around the bases for an inside-the-park homer, tying the game at 6-6. Joey retired Nate C to end the inning, and Eastbound had rallied the for the second time in the game.

Helal remained on the mound in the bottom of the sixth, and he retired Erich for the first out of the inning. Jordan followed with a single, and the tying run was on base. Les came to the plate, and he fouled off pitch after pitch, as the drama escalated. Les finally connected on a towering fly ball to left, and just as it looked like he would hit a walk-off two run homer, the ball trailed into foul territory for yet another foul. A few foul balls later, Les finally connected on a frozen rope off the fence in left. Jordan raced around the bases from first and scored. Les’s walk-off hit gave Cookies & Cream the 7-6 win.

Cookies & Cream earned their first win of the year, moving to 1-3. The loss dropped Eastbound & Dahn to 2-2.
