Billy tossed a complete game shutout into the sixth inning before delivering the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the final frame, lifting Shady Characters to a dramatic 2-1 walk-off victory over Jack Shack. In a tightly contested pitcher’s duel in which all three of the game’s runs were scored in the sixth inning, Billy scattered five hits and outlasted Jon M, allowing Shady Characters to overcome a 1-0 deficit in the bottom of the sixth to win 2-1.
Billy made a rare start on the mound for Shady Characters. He allowed a leadoff single to Josh, but when Jon M followed with a single, Josh was forced out between bases. Billy then retired Dave to strand Jon M at first, ending the inning.
Jon M started for Jack Shack, and Billy opened the bottom of the first with a double. Jon M retired Zach and Tom, however, stranding Billy at second to end the inning.
Michael was retired to begin the top of the second before Josh flew out, and Billy continued to cruise through the Jack Shack lineup.
Nate grounded out to start the bottom of the second before Billy singled with one out, but Jon M stranded him, preserving the scoreless tie.
Jon M and Dave were both retired in order in the top of the third as Billy settled into a groove on the mound.
Tom grounded out before Nate singled in the bottom of the third, but Billy grounded out to end the inning, and neither team had broken through.
Michael singled to lead off the top of the fourth, but Billy stranded him by retiring Josh and Jon M, keeping Jack Shack off the scoreboard.
Zach and Tom were retired in order in the bottom of the fourth as Jon M matched Billy inning for inning.
Dave and Michael were both retired in a quick top of the fifth, and the scoreless deadlock remained intact.
Nate flew out before Billy grounded out in the bottom of the fifth, sending the game into the sixth still tied 0-0.
Jack Shack finally broke through in the top of the sixth. Jon M doubled with one out, and Dave followed with an RBI single, giving Jack Shack its first lead of the afternoon at 1-0. Billy retired Michael to keep the deficit at one run and give Shady Characters one last chance.
Shady Characters answered immediately in the bottom of the sixth. Zach led off with a solo homer, tying the game at 1-1. Tom followed with a double, and Nate singled to put the winning run on third with no outs. Billy then lined a walk-off RBI single, scoring Tom and giving Shady Characters a thrilling 2-1 victory.
The win moved Shady Characters to 6-12 on the season while Jack Shack fell to 8-10.
