Brett Leads Cheap Goats to Unusual 10-9 Victory over Jack Shack

Brett led Cheap Goats going a perfect 5-for-5 with four doubles and a triple, and he continues to set the pace for the 2020 EWL batting title

Cheap Goats held on to beat Jack Shack 10-9 in a game that was started and completed in different weeks and which also had a score keeping anomaly that led to a half-inning being replayed. On 8/18, Jack Shack had seemingly come from behind to beat Cheap Goats 9-8 with a walk-off hit, but after further analysis of the score book, Cheap Goats were not credited with a run earlier in the game. After correcting other complications with the score book, the league decided to replay the bottom of the sixth inning, which ended with Cheap Goats earning a 10-9 victory.

Brian started for Jack Shack, and Cheap Goats jumped on him early. Joey led off the game with a ground rule double, and Brett followed with an RBI triple, making the score 1-0. Jordan followed with a two-run homer, and Cheap Goats led 3-0 before recording an out. Brian settled down and retired Christian and Dinger to end the inning with Jack Shack down three.

Dinger took the mound for Cheap Goats and he was effective out of the gate. He retired Turbo and Brian consecutively, and the score remained 3-0.

Cheap Goats added to their lead in the top of the second. Joey led off the inning with a triple, and Brett drove him in with an RBI double, extending the score to 4-0. Jordan hit a two-run homer for the second straight inning, and Cheap Goats were ahead 6-0. Christian followed with a single, but Brian escaped the inning, retiring Dinger and Joey to strand the runner, and Jack Shack were down six runs.

Jack Shack got on the board in the bottom of the second. Dinger struck out Dustin for the first out of the inning, but Dave, filling in for Jack Shack, hit a solo homer which made the score 6-1. Turbo followed with a triple, but Jack Shack couldn’t extend the rally. Dinger retired Brian to end the inning, stranding Turbo at third.

Brian rolled through the top of the sixth, sending Dinger and Joey down consecutively.

During the initial playing of the game, the score was thought to be 8-7 with Cheap Goats leading by a run heading into the bottom of the sixth. As the bottom of the sixth played on, Jack Shack manufactured two runs, leading to what was a walk-off win at the time. Upon further inspection, the run totals were incorrect, and after a league-wide panel, it was decided that the bottom of the sixth would be replayed.

On 8/25, the replay began. At the official reset, Cheap Goats led Jack Shack 10-7 with no outs in the bottom of the sixth. Dinger remained on the mound to close things out for Cheap Goats. The first batter he faced, Turbo, grounded out to center, and Cheap Goats were one out away from victory. But Jack Shack showed heart and rallied.
