Courtlen of Cheap Goats Named Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week

Cheap Goats have struggled to climb out of the basement of the EWL standings throughout the year, but one of the bright spots of their 2024 campaign has been the monster productivity delivered by Courtlen, who has turned in one of the best rookie seasons in recent wiffle memory. He has been a force at the plate, consistently among the league leaders in most offensive categories, and after another big week, he was voted Wiffler of the Week for week 9 of the 2024 EWL season.

In a 3-2 loss to Jack Shack, Courtlen went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, a run scored, and an RBI.

In a 9-7 comeback win over Guac Boys, he went 4-for-5 with a double, two triples, a home run, two runs scored, and three RBI.

In total, Courtlen went 6-for-9 with two doubles, two triples, two home runs, three runs scored, and four RBI, setting the high mark for offensive production during the lowest scoring week of the 2024 season to date.

This is the first time Courtlen has received Wiffler of the Week honors in his short wiffle career.

Cheap Goats Score Six Runs in Top of Sixth to Stun Guac Boys 9-7

Courtlen unloaded the bases with a two-RBI triple in the top of the sixth, completing a six-run rally that put Cheap Goats ahead 9-7 in their win over Guac Boys

After five innings, Guac Boys led 7-3 and had allowed Cheap Goats to amass only four hits, one inning away from victory, pulling even with Shady Characters atop the league standings. The wheels fell off in the top of the sixth, however, as Cheap Goats rallied to score six runs, taking a 9-7 lead and closing things out in the bottom half of the inning. Courtlen led the way for Cheap Goats, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, a home run, two runs scored, and three RBI, including the game-winning hit, a triple that drove in two runs in the top of the sixth, putting his squad ahead for good.

Bohn took the mound for Guac Boys, and after allowing a one-out double to Courtlen, he retired Christian to strand the runner, ending the inning.

Dinger started for Cheap Goats, and after allowing a one-out triple to Bohn, he retired Form to strand the runner at third, and the game remained scoreless.

Bohn rolled through the top of the second, sending Dinger and Kevin down consecutively.

Dinger matched Bohn in the bottom of the second, retiring Jan and Brum in order.

Bohn struck out Joey to start the top of the third, but the next hitter, Courtlen, launched a solo homer to right-center, putting Cheap Goats ahead 1-0. Bohn then retired Christian to end the inning.

Jude led off the bottom of the third with a solo shot, pulling Guac Boys even at 3-3. Dinger then retired Alec and Bohn to end the inning.

Dinger started the top of the fourth with a single, and two batters later, Joey hit a two-run homer, putting Cheap Goats in front 3-1. Bohn retired Courtlen to end the inning, and Guac Boys trailed by two runs.

Form led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo homer, narrowing the Cheap Goats lead to 3-2. Jan tripled, and Brum followed with a two-run shot, giving Guac Boys their first lead of the game, 4-3. Two batters later, Alec hit a one-out double, and Bohn drove him in with an RBI single, pushing Guac Boys lead to 5-3. Dinger retired Form to end the inning, and Guac Boys had scored four runs in the fourth to take a two-run lead.

Bohn cruised through the top of the fifth, sending Christian and Dinger down in order.

Guac Boys would add to their lead in the bottom of the fifth. Brum hit a one-out triple, and Jude followed with his second bomb of the game, a two-run shot that made the score 7-3. Alec followed with a triple but was called out trying to extend the hit into an inside-the-park-home run, ending the inning.

Cheap Goats had scored three runs on four hits through five innings, and they’d need at least four more runs in the sixth to extend the game. Kevin led off the inning with a solo homer, narrowing Guac Boys lead to 7-4. Joey followed with a solo shot, and the back-to-back homers cut the score to 7-5. Courtlen tripled, and he scored when Christian followed with a sacrifice fly to center, narrowing the deficit to a single run, 7-6. Dinger singled, putting the tying run on base, and he scored from first when Kevin followed with an RBI single, tying the game at 7-7. Joey singled, putting runners on first and second with one out. Courtlen unloaded the bases with an RBI triple, scoring two runs and putting Cheap Goats back in front 9-7. Bohn got Christian to fly out to the mound for the second out of the inning, but Cheap Goats had scored six runs in the sixth to overcome a four-run deficit and take a two-run lead heading into the final frame.

Dinger remained on the mound to close things out for Cheap Goats, and he was efficient in the bottom of the sixth. He retired Bohn and Form in order, ending the inning and the game, and giving Cheap Goats a 9-7 victory.

The win moved Cheap Goats to 7-11 on the season, and the loss dropped Guac Boys to 10-8.

Lucas and Billy Combine for Two-Hitter as Shady Characters Trounce Jack Shack 14-2

Lucas and Billy combined to throw a two-hitter, allowing only a single run, and they combined for seven hits and seven runs scored at the plate in Shady Characters 14-1 win over Jack Shack

One week after suffering one of the most one-sided blowouts in the fourteen year history of the EWL at the hands of Jack Shack, Shady Characters got even, winning 14-1 in the best display of pitching and defense of the 2024 season so far. Lucas and Billy combined to allow a single run on only two hits, and every Shady Characters player had three or more hits. Nate led the way, going 6-for-7 with two singles, a double, three home runs, four runs scored, and five RBI.

Jon D took the mound for Jack Shack, and after allowing a one-out double to Nate in the top of the first, he retired Lucas to strand the runner at second, ending the inning.

Lucas started for Shady Characters and he retired Josh and Jon M in order in the bottom of the first.

Shady Characters took an early lead in the top of the second. Thomas hit a one-out single, and Nate followed with a two-run homer, putting Shady Characters in front 2-0. Jon D then retired Lucas to end the inning.

Billy led off the top of the third with a solo homer, extending the Shady Characters lead to 3-0. Jon D then retired Thomas and Nate to end the inning.

Ryan led off the bottom of the third with a triple, and he scored when Josh grounded out to left for the first out of the inning. Lucas retired Jon M to end the inning, and the score was 3-1.

Shady Characters blew open the game in the top of the fourth. Lucas doubled, and he moved to third when Billy followed with a single. Thomas singled, loading the bases for Nate. Nate hit an RBI single, scoring Lucas, and Shady Characters were in front 4-1. Lucas then singled, scoring Billy and Thomas, and the lead was 6-1. Billy hit an RBI double, scoring Nate and pushing the Shady Characters advantage to 7-1. Thomas cleared the bases with a three-run homer, and the score was 10-1. Nate followed with a solo shot, and so did Lucas, and the back-to-back-to-back homers gave Shady Characters a 12-1 lead. Jon D retired Billy and Thomas to end the inning, but the first nine batters had reached base and scored in the top of the fourth, and Shady Characters had opened up a large lead.

Billy entered the game from the bullpen in the bottom of the fourth, and he retired the first two batters he faced, Jon D and Jacob.

Nate led off the top of the fifth with his third home run of the game, a solo shot that made the score 13-1. Two batters later, Billy hit his second homer of the game, and the Shady Characters lead was 14-1. Jon D retired Thomas to end the inning, and Jack Shack trailed by thirteen runs.

Billy retired Ryan to start the bottom of the firth, and Josh followed with a one-out double, Jack Shack’s second hit of the game. Billy stranded the runner at second, however, retiring Jon M to end the inning, and Shady Characters continued to lead by thirteen runs.

Nate singled to start the top of the sixth, but Shady Characters wouldn’t add to their lead. Jon D retired Lucas and Billy to strand the runner, and Jack Shack would need thirteen runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Billy made quick work of Jack Shack in the bottom of the sixth, striking out Jon D for the second time in the game, and retiring Jacob, ending the inning and the game, and giving Shady Characters a 14-1 victory.

The win moved Shady Characters to 11-7 on the season, and the loss dropped Jack Shack to 8-10.

Jon M Outduels Christian as Jack Shack Squeeze Past Cheap Goats 3-2

Jon M was dominant on the mound, allowing only two runs on six hits in Jack Shack’s 3-2 win over Cheap Goats

Defense was king in a rare EWL pitcher’s duel, as Jon M and the Jack Shack fielders narrowly defeated Cheap Goats 3-2, taking an early 3-0 lead and holding on to win. Both pitchers were in control, and neither offense could get started, but Jack Shack’s second inning rally was just enough to earn the victory.

Christian started for Cheap Goats, and he retired Josh and Jon M in order in the top of the first.

Jon M took the mound for Jack Shack, and he matched Christian in the bottom of the first, sending Joey and Courtlen down consecutively.

Jack Shack provided some run support in the top of the second. Jon D led off with a single and moved to third when Jacob followed with a double. Ryan cleared the bases with an RBI triple, and Jack Shack led 2-0. Josh followed with an RBI single, scoring Ryan, and the lead was 3-0. Christian retired Jon M and Jon D to strand Josh at first, ending the inning, and Cheap Goats trailed by three.

Christian provided his own run support in the bottom of the second, leading off the inning with a solo homer that cut the score to 3-1. Dinger followed with a single, but Jon M stranded him, retiring Kevin and Joey to end the inning, and Jack Shack led by two runs.

Jacob singled to start the top of the third, but Christian retired Ryan and Josh, stranding the runner at first, and the score remained 3-1.

Courtlen led off the bottom of the third with a solo homer, and the score was 3-2. Jon M then retired Christian and Dinger to end the inning.

Jon M remained on the mound to close things out in the bottom of the sixth. After retiring Joey, he allowed a one-out double to Courtlen, putting the tying run in scoring position and the winning run at the plate. Cheap Goats couldn’t capitalize, however, as Jon M retired Christian to strand the runner, ending the inning and the game, and giving Jack Shack an efficient 3-2 victory.

The win moved Jack Shack to 8-9, and the loss dropped Cheap Goats to 6-11.

Jan led Guac Boys to a big 6-3 win over Shady Characters, pulling his squad into a tie for first place in the season standings

Jan was in control on the mound, allowing only three runs on six hits, and perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and a home run, leading Guac Boys to a 6-3 victory over Shady Characters. After a five game losing skid to start the second half, with the win, Guac Boys had won two straight, and the win over their rivals pulled them even with Shady Characters, tied for first place in the EWL standings with three games to go.

Jan retired Thomas to start the game, and after allowing a one-out single to Nate, he stranded him, retiring Lucas to end the inning.

Lucas took the mound for Shady Characters, and Guac Boys hit him early. Alec led off with a double, and Bohn followed with a two-run homer, giving Guac Boys a two-run lead. Form followed with a solo shot, and the back-to-back jacks put Guac Boys ahead 3-0. Jan followed with a double, but Lucas stranded him, retiring Brum and Jude to end the inning.

Down three runs, Shady Characters rebounded and tied the game in the top of the third. Billy singled, and Thomas followed with a two-run homer, cutting the score to 3-2. Nate followed with a solo blast, and the back-to-back bombs tied the game at 3-3. Jan retired Lucas and Billy to end the inning, and the score was knotted at 3-3.

The win moved Guac Boys to 10-7 on the season, tied for first with Shady Characters, who dropped to 10-7 with the loss.
