Holly of Pumice on Slow! in her first career at-bat

Blose became the first player in EWL history to hit for the cycle, as his six RBIs and three homers lifted the Fish Sticks to their fifth win of the season.

Pumice on Slow! sent Holly to the mound in her first EWL appearance, and things started rough. The first batter she faced, Dinger, drilled a solo home run in the top of the first to put the Fish Sticks up 1-0. Two batters later, Blose tripled, getting the most difficult hit of the cycle, but was stranded when Holly got Dinger to ground out to right field. Despite the tough start, Holly settled down and allowed only one more run over the next three innings.

The Fish Sticks employed Joey as their starting pitcher, and his start was quite the opposite of Holly’s. He was perfect through 2.5 innings before John broke up the perfect game with a single. Joey stranded him at first, however, and had a shutout through three innings.

The Fish Sticks added a run in the second, but were blanked in the third and fourth innings. After three and a half, the Fish Sticks led 2-0.

Pumice on Slow! got their bats out in the bottom of the fourth, starting with a solo home run by Brad to cut the deficit to 2-1. Holly, John, and Luke each singled to load the bases with no outs. Brad stepped to the plate and blasted one of the league’s deepest homers, a grand slam, the first in league history. The bomb put Pumice on Slow! ahead 5-2. After the five run outburst, Joey retired the side.

The Fish Sticks didn’t take long to get the lead back. Dinger flied out to start the inning, but the Gay Fish rallied for a league record eight runs with one out. Joey singled, and was driven in by Blose’s first of seven home runs on the day. Dinger doubled, followed by a Joey single, and Blose drove in yet another run with a double, giving him the cycle for the day. With two runners on base, Dinger hit his second homer of the day, a three run shot. Joey followed with a single, and Blose hit his second home run of the inning. After plating eight runs, Dinger flew out to end the inning.

With the Fish Sticks ahead 10-5, they turned to the bullpen and brought Dinger to the mound. Dinger retired the side in order in the fifth.

Holly got her first K as a pitcher, wiffing Joey to start the 6th. Blose hit his third homer of the day to add an insurance run, and Dinger grounded out to end the inning with the Fish Sticks ahead 11-5.

Down six runs, Pumice on Slow! couldn’t rally, as Dinger retired both batters in order in the bottom of the sixth to give Fish Sticks the win.

Game Notes:
– the game feature the first grand slam (Brad) and first cycle (Blose) in league history
– the eight runs scored by Fish Sticks in the fifth were both the most runs scored in a single inning in league history and the most scored with 1 out (all 8 were scored with an out)
– Dinger’s lead-off home run was the first in league history
