Chris Pitches Gem and Hits Bomb as Dentists Hang On to Beat Caucasians 2-1

Morrison took the loss against the Dentists despite giving up only two runs

Chris moved to 5-0 as a starter on the season, as he shut down the Caucasian offense, helped his own cause with a homer, and led the Dentists to a 2-1 win.

Chris retired Guthrie to start the game, but got into a jam when he gave up consecutive singles to Morrison and Blauser, putting runners at first and third with one out. But he got out of the jam unscathed, getting Guthrie to fly out to left for the second out of the inning.

Morrison was on the mound for the Caucasians, and he gave up a single to Ron to start the bottom of the first. Chris followed by grounding out to left, but moved Ron to second. Mike followed with a single, putting runners on the corners for Ron with one out. But like Chris in the top half of the first, Guthrie got out of the jam without yielding a run, by getting Ron to fly out to the mound.

Chris retired Morrison and Blauser in order in the top of the second, and with the game scoreless, he led off the bottom of the second with a solo homer, his second of the day, to put the Dentists up 1-0. After a Mike single, Ron flew out for the first out of the inning. Mike advanced to third when Chris singled for his second hit of the inning, but Morrison stranded the runners at the corners when Mike grounded out to left field for the second out of the inning.

After two the score was 1-0, and Chris retired Guthrie and Morrison in order in the top of the third. Morrison matched him, retiring Ron and Chris who both flew out to the mound in the bottom of the third.

Chris mowed through Blauser and Guthrie in the top of the fourth to make seven straight retired batters. But Morrison again did the same, sending down Ron and Chris in the bottom to keep the Caucasian’s deficit at one run.

Morrison singled to lead off the top of the fifth, but didn’t move beyond first base, as Blauser and Guthrie were retired in order. Morrison then retired Chris to start the bottom of the fifth. The next batter, Mike, reached first safely when a fly ball was misplayed by the Caucasian outfield. Mike advanced to second and then third on a series of throwing errors, and after the ball escaped past Morrison at the mound, Mike raced home safely for an inside-the-park home run, moving the score to 2-0. Morrison retired Ron for the second out of the inning, and after five innings the Caucasians were down two runs.

Down to their final at-bat, Morrison grounded out to left to start the top of the sixth. With one out, Blauser hit a solo home run off Chris, cutting the score to 2-1. Guthrie followed with a single, and the tying run was on first. But Morrison was unable to force extra innings, as he grounded out to left field, ending the game, and giving the Dentists a 2-1 win.
