Dentists Manage Only 1 Hit, Get Improbable 1-0 Win Over Fish Sticks

Ron moved to 3-5 on the mound for the 2011 season with a 2-hit shutout of the Fish Sticks

Dinger carried a perfect game into the fifth inning and yielded only one hit to the Dentists, but the Sticks lost 1-0 as Ron shutout the Gay Fish giving up only two hits in the best pitchers’ duel in league history.

Both Ron and Dinger retired the first six batters they faced in order, as both pitchers were perfect through three innings.

Blose broke up Ron’s perfect game when he led off the top of the fourth inning with a single. But Ron retired Vassallo and Dinger in order as both grounded out to Chris in left field, as the score remained 0-0.

Dinger continued his perfect game in the bottom of the fourth, retiring Spads and Marr in order, his eighth consecutive retired batter.

Joey and Blose each flew out in the top of the fifth, and Ron maintained his shutout through five innings.

Dinger retired his ninth consecutive batter, Ron, to lead off the fifth, was perfect through four and a half innings. The next batter changed the game, however, as Chris ended the perfect game bid by blasting a solo home run to left-center, putting the Dentists up 1-0. Spads flew out to center to end the fifth, and the Dentists were up a run with only one hit.

Down to their last at-bat, Vassallo doubled to lead off the top of the sixth for the Sticks. With the tying runner on second in scoring position, Dinger grounded out to left, and Vassallo couldn’t advance to third. The next batter, Joey, also grounded out to left, as Ron recorded the second out of the inning and secured an unlikely 1-0 victory for the Dentists.

– 3 combined hits among both teams is the fewest in league history
– After going hitless, Joey snapped his league record 14-game hitting streak
