After Joey and Bob battled it out on the mound for 8 innings, Questionable Outfit cracked Guthrie in the bottom of the ninth inning to outlast Cookies & Cream for a 3-2 victory.

Bob got off to a rough start for Questionable Outfit, as the first batter he faced, Morrison, blasted a solo homer to deep left-center, giving Cookies & Cream an early 1-0 lead. But Bob settled down, retiring the side to end the inning, keeping the damage at a single run.

With Dinger out for week 3, Joey made his first pitching appearance of the season. With one out he gave up a single to Reilly, but stranded him at first for a scoreless first inning.

Vassallo led off the top of the second with a double, but Cookies & Cream couldn’t cash in, as Bob retired Morrison and Guthrie to end the inning.

Joey continued to pitch well in the bottom of the second. After giving up a one-out single to Tom, he got Reilly to ground out to left for the second out of the inning.

Bob cruised through the top of the third, and provided his own run support in the bottom half of the inning. With one out, he crushed a solo homer to right, tying the game at 1-1.

Both pitchers were perfect in the top of the fourth, as batters struggled to make solid contact.

After retiring Joey to lead off the top of the fifth, Bob gave up a solo bomb to Vassallo, as Cookies & Cream regained the lead at 2-1. Morrison followed with a single, but Bob avoided getting into further trouble, retiring Guthrie to end the inning.

Tom doubled with one out in the bottom of the fifth, but Reilly couldn’t advance the tying runner, grounding out to left for the second out.

Bob pitched a perfect top of the sixth, and down 2-1, Questionable Outfit were down to their final at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. The first batter, Mike, hit a deep solo homer, tying the game at 2-2 and extending the game for Questionable Outfit. Bob followed with a single, and with no outs, the winning run was on first. Tom grounded out for the first out of the inning, but pushed Bob to second. With the winning run in scoring position, Questionable Outfit was unable to capitalize, as Reilly grounded out to center, stranding the runner and sending the game to extra innings.

Bob stayed on the mound for Questionable Outfit was remained effective, retiring Cookies & Cream in order in the top of the seventh. Joey also remained on the mount and matched Bob, sending Questionable Outfit down consecutively in the bottom of the seventh.

With one out in the top of the eighth, Vassallo doubled, putting the lead run in scoring position for Cookies & Cream. But Bob retired Morrison, stranding the runner and ending the inning.

Joey rolled through the bottom of the eighth, retiring Tom and fanning Reilly.

Both teams’ starting pitchers had reached their innings limit, and each had to turn to the bullpen as the game went on to the ninth inning. Questionable Outfit put Mike on the mound, as he had won their previous game. With one out, Joey singled, and the lead runner was on base for Cookies & Cream, but Vassallo flew out to center, ending the threat.

Cookies & Cream turned to their ace Guthrie, who had two innings of eligibility left. He wouldn’t get the chance to use them. Mike led off the inning with a double, and the winning run was on second with no outs. The next batter, Bob, grounded out to right for the first out of the inning. Mike raced around third, and looked as if he was going to try to score. Morrison, who fielded the ball in right, gunned the ball in to Guthrie on the mound in an attempt to retire the base runner Mike. But the ball sailed over Guthrie’s head, and Mike raced home, scoring the winning run. Questionable Outfit had outlasted Cookies & Cream, winning 3-2 in nine innings.

The win moved Questionable Outfit to .500 at 3-3 on the year, as Cookies & Cream dropped to 4-2.
