After managing only one hit off Guthrie of Cookies & Cream through the first four innings, Eastbound erupted in the top of the fifth for 8 runs, pulling away from Cookies in a 9-3 win.
Guthrie made his first start of 2015 for Cookies, and after retiring the game’s first batter, Nate, he gave up a solo homer to Hartley, putting Eastbound ahead 1-0. It would be the last hit Guthrie allowed until Eastbound’s big fifth inning.
Helal started for Eastbound, looking to repeat on the success he had in week 1 when he pitched a three-hit shutout against Cookies & Cream. He cruised through the top of the first, retiring the side in order.
Guthrie pitched a scoreless frame in the top of the second, and Cookies would even things up in the bottom half. Vassallo hit a one-out blast to left, tying the game at 1-1.
Both pitchers retired the sides in order in the third, and the game remained tied at 1-1 through three innings.
Guthrie continued to roll in the top of the fourth, and Cookies & Cream pulled ahead for the first time in the game in the bottom of the fourth. Guthrie provided his own run support, leading off the inning with a solo homer. Cookies led 2-1 after four innings, and then things fell apart.
Helal matched Guthrie’s solo homer to lead off the top of the fifth, tying the game at 2-2. Nate followed with another solo homer, and Hartley made it three in a row when he crushed one to dead center. The back-to-back-to-back homers made the score 4-2. Christian followed with a double, and Helal later drove him in with an RBI single to make the score 5-2. Nate then hit a towering two-run bomb, his second blast of the inning, to put Eastbound ahead 7-2. The barrage continued with a Hartley single, followed by Christian hitting a two-run homer to right. Eastbound came into the inning with only one hit, but collected 9 hits in the top of the fifth, and pulled ahead 9-2.

Cookies couldn’t respond in the bottom of the fifth, and Guthrie bounced back with a perfect frame in the top of the sixth.
Down seven, Cookies couldn’t rally in the bottom of the sixth. Vassallo hit a one-out homer to make the score 9-3, but it was too little too late. Helal closed the door, giving Eastbound & Dahn the 9-3 win.
The win moved Eastbound & Dahn to 3-1 on the year, while Cookies & Cream fell to 1-3.
