Bob, of Questionable Outfit and EWL Wiffler of the Year in 2013, 2014, and 2015, throws out the ceremonial first pitch of the 2016 season to EWL commissioner, Joey, of Cookies & Cream.
The sixth season of wiffleball at the wiffle diamond in Shadyside kicked off on Tuesday night, as Questionable Outfit, Cookies & Cream, The Ham Slams, and Eastbound & Dahn united to exchange blows with the ultimate dream of a Wiffle Series title in mind.
The festivities started with three-time defending MVP Bob of Questionable Outfit throwing out the ceremonial first pitch to EWL commissioner Joey, of Cookies & Cream. The sun shined down on the wiffle diamond, and the wiffle action began as the wiffle gods had intended.
In the first game, Cookies & Cream narrowly defeated the Ham Slams, who featured three rookies. Guthrie, an EWL legend, started the season on fire, carrying his squad to a win with a perfect performance at the plate and a strong performance on the mound.
Next, Questionable Outfit, coming off back-to-back EWL Championships, dominated Eastbound & Dahn 22-0. Despite missing a regular player for week 1 and one of the franchise’s best players, Reilly, for the entire season, Questionable picked up where they left off in 2015, crushing the ball. Nate, Questionable’s newest addition, had the single best EWL debut in history, homering three times and reaching base in his first five at-bats, in addition to pitching a shutout.
For the third game, the upstart Ham Slams trounced Eastbound & Dahn 15-2 as 2015 EWL Rookie of the Year Tim hit for the cycle. Eastbound struggled to hit or field, and the Ham Slams took full advantage of the opportunities.
In the final game, Cookies & Cream exacted some revenge on Questionable Outfit, beating the team they lost to in the 2014 and 2015 Wiffle Series by a score of 10-3, despite missing their best player, Blose, for week 1.
The wiffle action continues next week and will take place at the wiffle diamond every Tuesday night at 6:30PM through August.
