Guthrie Homers Twice to Carry Cookies & Cream Past Ham Slams 6-3

Guthrie continued to swing a hot bat for Cookies & Cream, leading his squad to a 6-3 win over the Ham Slams with a 4-for-6 performance including two homers

Joey scattered three runs on six hits in a complete game effort, and he got timely late-game hits from the Cookies & Cream offense as Cookies remained undefeated after a 6-3 win over the Ham Slams.

Josh made the first start of his EWL career for the Ham Slams, and he got off to a strong start in the top of the first. After allowing a one-out double to Blose in Blose’s first at-bat of the season, he retired Joey to strand the runner and end the inning.

Joey took the mound for Cookies & Cream in his first start of the 2016 season, and he retired the Ham Slams in order in the bottom of the first.

Josh continued to roll in the top of the second, sending Jordan and Guthrie down consecutively.

The Ham Slams would take an early lead in the bottom of the second. Tim led off the a double, and he scored when Dan followed with an RBI double to make the score 1-0. The Slams couldn’t capitalize further, as Joey retired Josh and Andrew to strand Dan at second and minimize the damage at a single run.

Cookies & Cream evened things up in the top of the third. Blose led off with a double, and he scored when Joey grounded out to left for the first out of the inning. Josh then retired Jordan to end the inning, and the game was tied at 1-1.

Joey rolled through the bottom of the third with a two pitch inning, retiring Tim and Dan.

Guthrie started the top of the fourth with a single, but Josh retired Blose and Joey to strand the runner and end the inning.

The Ham Slams couldn’t get to Joey in the bottom of the fourth, as he retired Josh and Andrew in order.

Cookies & Cream would take the lead in the top of the fifth. Jordan led off the inning with a solo shot to left-center, and Guthrie followed with another solo homer to make back-to-back jacks. Joey would later single with one out, but Josh stranded him and Cookies led 3-1.

The Ham Slams would get one run back in the bottom of the fifth. Tim started the inning with a double and moved to third on a Dan single. Josh grounded out for the first out of the inning, but Tim scored on the play to make the score 3-2. Joey then retired Andrew to end the inning and maintain a one-run lead.

Cookies & Cream provided more run support in the top of the sixth and extended their lead. Guthrie started the inning with his second homer of the game, making the score 4-2. Blose followed with a single, and he moved to third on a Joey double, putting two runners in scoring position. Jordan then singled to score Blose, making the score 5-2. Guthrie followed with an RBI single, scoring Joey, and Cookies led 6-2. With a runner on first, Blose hit a fly ball that fell into play, but Guthrie was caught in between first and second for the first out of the inning. Josh then retired Joey to end the inning.

The Ham Slams trailed by three runs heading into the final frame. Joey retired Tim for the first out of the inning, but Dan followed with a solo homer to keep the Slams alive and cut the deficit to 6-3. Josh followed with a double, and it looked like the Slams would rally, but Joey retired Andrew to strand the runner and the game.

The win moved Cookies & Cream to 3-0 on the year, and the loss dropped the Ham Slams to 1-2 on the season.
