Cheap Goats Hold Off Late Jack Shack Rally, Hang on to 9-8 victory

Jordan went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a home run, and led Cheap Goats with 3 RBI

Three weeks into the 2020 regular season, Cheap Goats were 5-1 and in first place. Two and a half weeks later, they had lost five straight, dropping under .500 to 5-6. They snapped their five game skid, moving to .500 with a 9-8 win over first place Jack Shack. All four Cheap Goats players had multiple hits, and Joey, Christian, and Jordan each homered and had three or more extra-base hits.

Dinger took the mound for Cheap Goats, and he was effective in the first. He allowed a one out double to Dustin, but stranded him at second, retiring Brian to end the inning.

Cheap Goats jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the second. Joey tripled to lead off the inning, and Jordan followed with an RBI double, scoring Joey to make the score 1-0. Two batters later, Dinger hit a one out double, scoring Jordan, and putting Cheap Goats ahead 2-0. Joey then tripled for the second time in the inning, scoring Dinger, and Cheap Goats led 3-0. Joey attempted to extend the triple into an inside-the-park homer, but Dustin gunned him down from deep center for the second out, ending the inning.

Dinger cruised through the top of the second, sending Doc and Blaine down consecutively.

Jordan led off the bottom of the second with a solo homer, extending the Cheap Goats lead to 4-0. Brian avoided a Cheap Goats rally, retiring Christian and Dinger to end the inning.

Jack Shack got on the board in the top of the third. Turbo led off with a single, and two batters later, Brian hit an RBI triple, scoring Turbo to make the score 4-1. Dinger retired Doc to end the inning, and Cheap Goats led by three runs.

Jack Shack turned to their bullpen in the third, bringing Dustin to the mound to replace Brian. He was strong out of the gates, retiring Joey and Jordan in order to end the inning.

Down 4-1, Jack Shack got out their sticks in the top of the fourth, taking the lead with a big inning. Blaine led off with a single, and moved from first to third when Turbo followed with a double. Dustin then singled, loading the bases for Brian. Brian hit a deep fly ball that had a chance at a grand slam but hit the fence. Two runs scored on the play, and the score was 4-3. Doc then singled, scoring Dustin, and the game was tied at 4-4. Two batters later, Turbo hit a one-out triple, emptying the bases to score Brian and Doc, putting Jack Shack in front 6-4. Dustin then doubled, scoring Turbo, and the Jack Shack lead was 7-4. Dinger finally got out of the inning when Brian grounded out to center for the second out. Jack Shack came into the inning trailing by three, and ended the inning with a three-run lead.

Cheap Goats responded in the bottom of the fourth. Christian led off the inning with a solo homer, cutting the score to 7-5. Two batters later, Joey tripled for the third time in the game, and Jordan followed with an RBI double that made the score 7-6. Christian then tripled, scoring Jordan to tie the game at 7-7. Dustin got out of the inning when Dinger flew out to Turbo in left, and Cheap Goats had rallied with three runs to knot the game at 7s.

Dinger got back on track in the top of the fifth, retiring Doc and Blaine in order, and the score remained tied.

Cheap Goats pulled ahead in the bottom of the fifth. Joey led off the inning with an inside-the-park homer, giving Cheap Goats an 8-7 lead. Two batters later, Christian doubled, and Dinger drove him in with an RBI double that extended the Cheap Goats lead to 9-7. Dustin then got Joey to fly out to the mound, stranding Dinger at second and ending the inning.

Jack Shack trailed by two heading into their final at-bat. Dinger remained on the mound to close things out. Turbo led off the inning with a single. Dustin flew out in foul territory for the first out of the inning, but Brian followed with an RBI double, scoring Turbo to cut the Cheap Goats lead to 9-8. Christian backed up a throw from the outfield on the play, saving a run. Jack Shack had the tying run in scoring position, but Dinger ended the rally, getting Doc to ground out to center to end the game, giving Cheap Goats a 9-8 win.

The win moved Cheap Goats to 6-6 on the season, and the loss dropped Jack Shack to 7-5.
