Four Players Log Multiple Hits as Shady Characters Roll Past Jack Shack 4-2

Mike went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo homer for Shady Characters

Lucas went 4-for-4 for Shady Characters, Dylan scored three runs, and Mike and Tom each contributed two hits, as defending champions Shady Characters moved to 2-0 on the season with a 4-2 win over Jack Shack. Tom earned the win, and Lucas picked up a save in long relief as the Wiffle Series champions continued their roll from 2021, remaining undefeated.

Tom started on the mound for Shady Characters and escaped a jam early. He allowed consecutive singles to Adam and Josh to start the inning, putting two on with no outs. He got out of the inning unscathed, however, when he got Jared to fly out to center. Adam was called out trying to tag up on the play, and the inning was over.

Shady Characters took an early lead in the bottom of the first. Dylan led off with a single, and two batters later, Tom hit a one-out RBI double, making the score 1-0. Lucas followed with a single to put runners on the corners, but Jack Shack’s starter, Sean, retired Nate to strand both runners, ending the inning.

Tom rolled through the top of the second, retiring the Jack Shack side in order, and he had met his innings limit for week one.

Shady Characters extended their lead in the bottom of the second. Dylan led off with a single and moved to third when Mike doubled.  Two batters later, Lucas hit a one-out RBI single to score Dylan, and Shady Characters led 2-0.  Shady Characters had runners on the corners with one out, but Sean once again stranded two runners, striking out Nate to end the inning.

Lucas came to the mound for Shady Characters in the top of the third, and Jack Shack would get on the board. After retiring Adam, Lucas allowed a one-out triple to Josh. Rob then doubled, scoring Josh to cut the score to 2-1. Lucas avoided further damage, retiring Sean to strand the runner and end the inning.

Lucas, who went 4-for-4 and earned a save in relief, delivers a pitch to Josh.

Sean had met his innings limit for week one, and Jack Shack brought in Rob from the bullpen for his first career pitching appearance. He allowed a leadoff single to Dylan, and two batters later, Tom hit a one-out RBI single, putting Shady Characters ahead 3-1. Lucas followed with a single, but Tom was caught in between bases on the play, ending the inning.

Lucas retired Adam and Josh in order in the top of the fourth, and Rob matched him in the bottom half of the inning, sending Nate and Dylan down consecutively.

Rob led off the top of the fifth with a single, but Jack Shack couldn’t capitalize. Lucas retired Sean and Adam to strand him at first, ending the inning.

Shady Characters added an additional insurance run in the bottom of the fifth when Mike led off the inning with a solo homer. Lucas hit a one-out double two batters later, but Rob stranded him, retiring Nate to end the inning.

Down 4-1, Jack Shack came out swinging in the top of the sixth. Josh led off the inning with a solo shot to right-center, cutting the score to 4-2. The rally would end there, however, as Lucas retired Rob and Sean to end the inning, giving Shady Characters a 4-2 win.

The win moved Shady Characters to 2-0 on the season, and Jack Shack dropped to 1-1.
