Ryan of Jack Shack Named Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week

The EWL’s hottest rookie continued to tear through opposing pitchers in week 2, and collecting seven extra-base hits and hitting for the cycle, he was voted Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week for week 2 of the 2023 EWL season.

In a 14-8 loss to Cheap Goats, Ryan went 4-for-6 with two singles, a double, a triple, and three runs scored.

In a 14-13 win over Shady Characters, he went 6-for-8 with a single, two doubles, a triple, two home runs, five runs scored, and five RBI, hitting for the cycle for the first time in his EWL career.

In total, Ryan went 10-for-14 with three singles, three doubles, two triples, two homers, eight runs scored, and five RBI in week 2.

This is the first time Ryan has been voted Wiffler of the Week in his short wiffle career.

Cheap Goats Complete Incredible Late-Game Rally to Stun Shady Characters 9-8 in Extra Innings

Dylan delivers a pitch to Joey, who homered twice in the sixth inning and once in the seventh inning to help propel Cheap Goats to an improbable comeback win

Joey homered in his last three at-bats, Miller doubled in his last three, and Christian went deep twice as Cheap Goats overcame at 8-4 deficit in the top of the sixth to eventually win 9-8 in extra-innings. Aided by a somewhat controversial call to end the game, Cheap Goats jaw-dropping comeback win gave Shady Characters their first loss of the 2023 season and their first loss overall since game 1 of the first round of the 2022 EWL playoffs against Cheap Goats.

Tom started on the mound for Shady Characters, and he was effective early. He retired Joey to start the game and struck out Miller to end the inning.

Christian started for Cheap Goats, and Shady Characters hit him hard in the bottom of the first. Dylan led off with a double, and Mike drove him in with an RBI single that put Shady Characters up 1-0. Two batters later, Nate hit a one-out two-run shot, extending the lead to 3-0. Lucas doubled, and Dylan also hit a two-run bomb, putting Shady Characters in front 5-0. Christian finally got out of the disastrous first inning by retiring Mike for the second out.

Tom continued to pitch effectively in the top of the second. After allowing a one-out double to Dinger, he retired Joey to strand the runner at second, ending the inning.

Shady Characters added to their lead in the bottom of the second. Tom singled, and two batters later, Lucas hit a one-out RBI double to score Tom, pushing the Shady Characters lead to 6-0. Christian then retired Dylan to end the inning.

Tom had reached his innings limit for the week, and Shady Characters brought Lucas to the mound in the top of the third. After retiring Miller for the first out, he gave up a deep solo homer to Christian, cutting the score to 6-1. Lucas then retired Dinger to end the inning.

Shady Characters made up the run in the bottom of the third. Christian had also reached his innings limit, and Dinger came to the mound from the Cheap Goats bullpen. He allowed a double to Mike, and two batters later, Nate hit a one-out RBI double to drive him in, making the score 7-1. Dinger then retired Lucas to stand Nate at second, ending the inning.

Cheap Goats started to claw back in the top of the fourth. Joey doubled to lead off the inning, and he scored from second when Miller grounded out for the first out of the inning, cutting the deficit to 7-2. Christian then homered for the second consecutive at-bat, narrowing the score to 7-3. Lucas retired Dinger to end the inning, and Shady Characters led by four runs.

Dinger rolled through the bottom of the fourth, sending Dylan and Mike down in order, and the score remained 7-3.

Cheap Goats chipped away further in the top of the fifth. Joey led off the inning with a double, and two batters later, Christian hit an RBI single to score him. Lucas retired Dinger to end the inning, and Cheap Goats trailed 7-4.

Shady Characters got the run back in the bottom of the fifth when Tom led off the inning with a solo homer. Two batters later, Lucas hit a one-out double, but Dinger retired Dylan to strand him at second, and Shady Characters led 8-4 heading into the sixth inning.

Cheap Goats would need to double their run total to extend the game, and they got to work in the top of the sixth. Shady Characters brought Dylan to the mound to close things out, and he got into trouble quickly. Joey led off the inning with a solo homer, cutting the score to 8-5. Miller doubled, but Dylan struck out Christian for the first out of the inning. Down to their final out, Cheap Goats rallied. Dinger doubled, scoring Miller, and the Shady Characters lead was cut to 8-6. With the tying run at the plate, Joey launched a two-run bomb to left, tying the game at 8-8. Miller doubled for the second time in the inning, putting the winning run in scoring position. Dylan escaped, however, getting Christian to fly out to right, standing the runner at second and ending the inning.

Cheap Goats had tied the game at 8-8, and Shady Characters came to the plate in the bottom of the sixth with a chance to walk-off with a win for the second time in 2023. It wouldn’t happen, as Dinger retired Mike and Tom in order, sending the game to extra innings.

Lucas returned to the mound in the top of the seventh, and he retired Dinger for the first out of the inning. The next batter, Joey, homered for the third consecutive at-bat, putting Cheap Goats ahead 9-8. Miller doubled, and Cheap Goats had a chance to extend the lead further, but Lucas retired Christian to strand Miller at second, ending the inning.

Down a run, Shady Characters would need one to extend the game or two runs to win. Nate led off the bottom of the seventh with a double, putting the tying run in scoring position. The next batter, Lucas, grounded out to center, and Nate attempted to score on the play. Joey got the ball to Dinger on the mound, and Nate was called out between third and home, ending the game. The controversial call was upheld, and Cheap Goats held on to win the game 9-8.

The win moved Cheap Goats to 2-2 on the season, and the loss dropped Shady Characters to 3-1.

Jack Shack Outlast Guac Boys in Epic 14-13 Shootout

Ryan continued his amazing rookie campaign going 6-for-8 with a single, two doubles, a triple, two homers, five runs scored, five RBI, hitting for the cycle in Jack Shack’s shootout win over the Guac Boys

Brian went a perfect 6-for-6 in his 2023 debut and all four Jack Shack players had at least four hits in a back-and-forth slugfest with Guac Boys that ended in a 14-13 victory. Ryan also continued the electric start to his rookie season, going 6-for-8 with five extra-base hits and hitting for the cycle in the incredible Jack Shack victory.

Bohn started on the mound for the Guac Boys, and he fell behind early. After retiring Josh for the first out of the inning, he gave up a one-out solo shot to Ryan, making the score 1-0. Brian followed with a single in his first at-bat of the 2023 season, but Bohn stranded him, retiring Harry Chiti to end the inning.

Bohn got some significant run support in the bottom of the first. Alec led off the inning with a single, and Bohn provided his own offense, hitting a two-run bomb to put Guac Boys in front 2-1. Brum tripled, and he scored when Form grounded out to center for the first out of the inning. Jan followed with a solo homer in his first at-bat of the season, and the score was 4-1. Jack Shack’s starter, Brian, finally escaped the inning, getting Sean to fly out to left for the second out of the inning.

Down three runs, Jack Shack immediately responded in the top of the second. Josh singled and moved from first to third when Ryan followed with a double. With no outs and two runners in scoring position, Brian hit a towering fly to right that was caught for an out, but Josh tagged and scored on the play, and the sac fly cut the score to 4-2. Harry then singled, scoring Ryan from second, and the score was 4-3. Josh singled to put runners on the corners with one out, and Ryan cleared the bases with a two-RBI double, putting Jack Shack back in front 5-4. Brian then doubled to score Ryan, and Jack Shack led 6-4. Bohn finally got the second out of the inning, retiring Harry to strand Brian at second, and Jack Shack led by two runs.

Brian escaped damage in the bottom of the second. He allowed a one-out triple to Alec, but stranded him, retiring Bohn for the second out of the inning, and the score remained 6-4.

Jack Shack added to their lead in the top of the third. With Bohn at his innings limit for the week, Jan came to the mound, and Jack Shack got on him right away. Josh doubled, and Ryan drove him in with an RBI triple that made the score 7-4. Brian then tripled, scoring Ryan, and the Jack Shack lead was 8-4. Jan got Harry to ground out for the first out of the inning, but Brian scored on the play, making the score 9-4. Jan then retired Josh to end the inning with Jack Shack ahead by five runs.

Guac Boys got out their sticks and evened things up in the bottom of the third. Brum led off the inning with a solo homer, narrowing the deficit to 9-5. Form doubled, and Jan drove him in with his second homer of the game, a two-run shot that cut the score to 9-7. Two batters later, Tone hit a one-out solo homer, and the score was 9-8. Alec doubled, and he moved to third when Bohn followed with a single. With one out and runners on the corners, Brum singled, scoring Alec, and Guac Boys had tied the game at 9-9. The Guac Boys continued to have two runners on base, but Brian finally got out of the inning, retiring Form for the second out and stranding both runners.

The game wouldn’t remain tied for long. Ryan led off the top of the fourth with a single, and when Brian followed with a single, Ryan was caught out trying to advance. With one out and a runner on first, Harry hit a two-run shot, giving Jack Shack the lead again at 11-9. Jan retired Josh to end the inning, and the Guac Boys trailed again.

Yet again, the Guac Boys bounced back in the bottom half of the inning. With Brian at his innings limit for the week, Jack Shack brought Josh to the mound, and he got into trouble. Jan led off with a triple, and Sean drove him in with an RBI single that made the score 11-10. Tone then singled, putting runners on first and third with no outs. Josh got Alec to ground out to center for the first out of the inning, but Sean scored on the play, and the game was tied at 11-11. Bohn then singled, scoring Tone, and Guac Boys had reclaimed the lead. Josh got Brum to fly out to right for the second out of the inning, and Guac Boys led 12-11.

Jan, making his 2023 debut, went 3-for-4 with a triple, two home runs, three runs scored, and three RBI

The slugfest continued in the top of the fifth. Brian hit a one-out double, and Harry drove him in with a double, tying the game at 12-12. Jan retired Josh to strand Harry at second, ending the inning.

Brian cruised through the bottom of the fifth, retiring Form and Jan in order, and the game was tied at 12-12 through five innings.

Jack Shack got out their bats again in the top of the sixth. Ryan led off the inning with a solo homer, his fifth extra-base hit of the game, putting Jack Shack ahead 13-12. Brian doubled, and Harry drove him in with an RBI double that extended the Jack Shack lead to 14-12. Josh singled, but Harry was caught out on the play for the first out of the inning. Jan then retired Ryan to end the inning, and the Guac Boys would need two more runs to extend the game.

First first batter Josh faced in the bottom of the sixth, Sean, crushed a solo homer to right-center, cutting the Jack Shack lead to 14-13. Guac Boys had the tying run at the plate with no outs. They had battled back time and time again throughout the game, but their luck would end here. Josh retired Tone and Alec in order, ending the inning and the game, giving Jack Shack a 14-13 victory.

The win moved Jack Shack to 2-2 on the season, and the loss dropped Guac Boys to 1-3.

Shady Characters Power Past Guac Boys 10-3 to Remain Undefeated

Mike went 4-for-5 and hit for the cycle for the second time in his career, leading Shady Characters to a 10-3 win over the Guac Boys

Mike hit for the cycle, Lucas contributed three hits, and Tom contributed four hits and a strong start on the mound as Shady Characters beat the Guac Boys 10-3 and remained undefeated three games into the 2023 season. The defending champs continued to employ their trademark combination of big-scoring innings and lockdown defense, cruising to victory and maintaining their stop atop the early season standings.

Bohn started on the mound for the Guac Boys, and he fell behind early. After retiring Dylan for the first out of the inning, he allowed a one-out single to Mike. Tom followed with a single, and Mike motored around the bases to score, putting Shady Characters ahead 1-0. Bohn retired Nate for the second out of the inning, stranding Tom at first.

Tom took the mound for Shady Characters, and after allowing a one-out double to Bohn, he retired Brum to strand the runner at second, ending the inning.

Shady Characters opened up a big lead in the top of the second. Lucas led off with a triple, and when Bohn retired Dylan for the first out of the inning, Lucas scored from third, extending the lead to 2-0. Mike hit a one-out triple, and Tom followed with an RBI single, making the score 3-0. Nate then hit a two-run blast to right-center, and Shady Characters led 5-0. Lucas followed with a solo shot to center, and the back-to-back homers put Shady Characters in front 6-0. Dylan then singled, but Bohn finally escaped the inning, retiring Mike for the second out and stranding Dylan at first.

Tom was once again effective in the bottom of the second. He allowed a one-out double to Jan but stranded him at second, striking out Sean to end the inning.

Bohn got out of a jam with a lucky play in the top of the third. Tom led off with a double and moved to third when Nate followed with a single. Lucas then singled, but Bohn gathered the ball on the mound while Tom and Nate were in between bases, completing a double play to strand both runners and end the inning.

The Guac Boys got on the board in the bottom of the third. Alec hit a one-out single, and Bohn followed with an RBI double, making the score 6-1. Tom avoided further damage, however, retiring Brum to strand Bohn at second, ending the inning.

Shady Characters made up the difference in the top of the fourth. Dylan led off the inning with a solo homer, making the score 7-1. Mike doubled, and Tom followed with a two-run shot to right, pushing the Shady Characters lead to 9-1. Bohn retired the next two batters to end the inning, and Shady Characters led by eight runs.

The Guac Boys got one back in the bottom of the fourth when Form led off the inning with a solo shot to left-center, cutting the deficit to 9-2. Jan followed with a single, but the Guac Boys couldn’t rally. Tom retired Sean and Tone to strand Jan first, ending the inning.

Shady Characters picked up another insurance run for Tom in the top of the fifth. With one out, Mike hit a solo homer, completing the cycle, and putting his squad in front 10-2. Bohn retired Tom to end the inning, and the Guac Boys once again trailed by eight runs.

The Guac Boys continued to chip away in the bottom of the fifth. Bohn hit a one-out double, and Brum drove him in with an RBI triple, making the score 10-3. Tom then retired Form to strand Brum at third, ending the inning.

Bohn retired Shady Characters in order in the top of the sixth, and the Guac Boys trailed by seven heading into their final at-bat.

Tom made quick work in the final frame, retiring Jan and Sean in order to end the inning and the game, giving Shady Characters a 10-3 victory.

Cheap Goats’ Offense Unloads to Pick Up First Win of 2023 Season with 14-9 Victory Over Jack Shack

After sputtering on offense in week 1, Cheap Goats exploded to start week 2 as all four players went deep and Christian kept Jack Shack in check on the mound in a 14-9 victory, their first of the 2023 season. Christian continued his hot start to the 2023 season by logging five hits, Joey had six extra-base hits, and Miller hit for the cycle in a win that eased the sting of Cheap Goats’ heartbreaking week 1 loss to Jack Shack.

Christian started for Cheap Goats and avoided trouble early in the top of the first. After retiring Josh to start the game, he allowed one-out singles to Ryan and Brian, putting runners on the corners. However, he got the next batter, Harry Chiti, to ground out to right, stranding both runners and ending the inning.

Cheap Goats took an early lead in the bottom of the first. Brian, Jack Shack’s starter, allowed a leadoff double to Joey. Brian struck out Miller for the first out of the inning, but Christian followed with an RBI single to score Joey and put Cheap Goats ahead 1-0. Brian then retired Dinger to strand Christian at first, ending the inning.

Brian followed with a two-run bomb to left-center, and Jack Shack led 2-1. Christian then retired Harry for the second out of the inning, and Jack Shack led by a run.

Cheap Goats stormed back in the bottom of the second with a big inning, opening up a large early lead. Joey led off the inning with a double, and Miller drove him in with a two-run bomb, putting Cheap Goats back in front 3-2. Christian singled, and two batters later, Joey hit a one-out two-run homer to left, extending the lead to 5-2. Miller then doubled, and Christian drove him in with an RBI double, making the score 6-2. Dinger then singled, scoring Christian from second, and the lead was 7-2. Brian finally retired Joey for the second out of the inning, but Cheap Goats had scored six runs in the bottom of the second, taking a five-run lead.

Jack Shack once again responded in the top of the third. Josh led off the inning with a solo homer, cutting the score to 7-3. Ryan followed with a single, and he scored from first when Brian hit an RBI double, making the score 7-4. Two batters later, Josh hit his second homer of the inning, a two-run shot that narrowed the deficit to 7-6. Christian then retired Ryan to end the inning, and the Cheap Goats lead was down to a run.

Brian pitched his best frame of the game in the bottom of the third, retiring Miller and Christian in order, and the score remained 7-6.

Christian matched him in the top of the fourth, sending Brian and Harry down consecutively.

With the score 7-6, Cheap Goats had another huge inning in the bottom of the fourth, taking an even bigger lead. Dinger led off the inning with a solo homer, making the score 8-6. Joey doubled, and he scored from first on Miller’s RBI single, pushing the lead to 9-6. Christian then singled, and Miller raced from first to score, putting CHeap Goats ahead 10-6. Dinger singled, putting runners on first and third with no outs. Joey hit an RBI triple to score Christian, extending the Cheap Goats lead to 11-6, and on the play, Dinger was caught between third and home for the first out of the inning. Miller then tripled, driving in Joey, and Cheap Goats led 12-6. Christian followed with a deep two-run blast to right, and Cheap Goats had taken a 14-6 lead. Brian finally got out of the inning, retiring Dinger for the second out, and Cheap Goats had scored seven runs to take an eight-run lead.
