
Tom pitched a complete game shutout for Shady Characters, scattering four hits in a 3-0 win over Jack Shack
Tom pitched the first complete game shutout in the EWL in almost two years, scattering four hits as no Jack Shack baserunner advanced beyond second base in a 4-0 Shady Characters win. Nate went 3-for-3 with a single and two homers, providing all of the run support that Tom would need.
The first batter Tom faced in the top of the first, Josh, singled but was called out trying to advance to second for a double. Tom then retired Jacob to end the inning.
Ryan took the mound for Jack Shack, and after retiring Tom to start the bottom of the first, he gave up a solo homer to Nate, making the score 1-0. Ryan then retired Lucas for the second out of the inning.
Tom retired Ryan to start the top of the second, and Jon D followed with a single. Jon M, making his EWL debut, doubled in his first career at-bat, but Jon D was called out trying to score on the play, ending the inning.
Ryan rolled through the bottom of the second, retiring Thomas and Daniel in order.
Tom cruised through the top of the third, sending Josh and Jacob down consecutively.
Shady Characters added to their lead in the bottom of the third. Tom led off with a single, and Nate followed with a two-run homer, his second in as many at-bats, and Shady Characters led 3-0. Lucas and Thomas each singled, putting runners on first and second with no outs. Shady Characters were threatening to open up a big lead, but Ryan buckled down, retiring Daniel and Tom to strand both runners, ending the inning.
Tom once again retired the side in order in the top of the fourth, sending Ryan and Jon D down, and the score remained 3-0.
Nate singled to start the bottom of the fourth, but Ryan stranded him, retiring Lucas and Thomas to end the inning.
Jon M led off the top of the fifth with a single, but Jack Shack couldn’t get on the board. Tom retired Josh and Jacob to strand the runner, and Shady Characters continued to lead by three runs.
Ryan retired Daniel and Tom in order in the bottom of the fifth, and Jack Shack trailed by three heading into their final at-bat.
Tom remained on the mound to close things out, and he made quick work of Jack Shack in the top of the sixth. He retired Ryan and Jon D in order, ending the inning and the game, giving Shady Characters a 3-0 win.
The win moved Shady Characters to 3-0 on the season, and the loss dropped Jack Shack to 0-3.

Game Notes:
– Tom pitched the complete game shutout for Shady Characters, allowing only four hits with no Jack Shack runners advancing beyond second base. This was the first shutout in the EWL since Tom and Lucas combined for a shutout during the 2022 season. Tom has been a part of five shutouts, and three of them have been complete game shutouts.
– Ryan took the loss for Jack Shack in a complete game effort, giving up three runs on six hits in five innings.
– Nate led Shady Characters on offense, going 3-for-3 with a single, two home runs, two runs scored, and all three Shady Characters RBI.
– Jon M was the only Jack Shack player with multiple hits, going 2-for-2 with a single and a double in his EWL debut.
