2024 Wiffler of the Year Thomas delivers the ceremonial first pitch to EWL commissioner Joey marking the start of 2025 season
After three weeks of rain delays postponing the start of the 2025 season, the rain held just long enough for Opening Day ceremonies to occur, and the fifteenth season of the Ellsworth Wiffleball League began on Tuesday, May 20th.
All four teams from the last several seasons return this year with the majority of 2024 rosters intact, including Shady Characters, who aim to become the first team in EWL history to win five consecutive championships, 2024 runners up Jack Shack, Guac Boys, and Cheap Goats, as they will all vie for the Wiffle Series title over the course of Spring and Summer 2025.

Four-time defending champions Shady Characters went toe-to-toe with Cheap Goats in one of the best season openers in league history, and the ball was flying all over the Wiffle Diamond throughout the evening. The fourth and final game of the week was suspended due to rain, but wiffle action has returned to Shadyside, and the boys of summer are back for another chase for glory.
