Brett Powers Cheap Goats Past Jack Shack 7-4 to Win Game 3

Brett went 4-for-5 with three doubles, a homer, and three RBI, as Cheap Goats stormed out to an early lead and beat Jack Shack 7-4 to take game three of their best-of-five first round series. Joey drove in the other four runs for Cheap Goats, and Miller pitched the complete game win as Cheap Goats took a 2-1 lead in the series.

Brian started on the mound for Jack Shack, and he fell behind early. Brett led off with a double, and Joey drove him in with an RBI single that gave Cheap Goats an immediate 1-0 lead. Brian avoided further damage, retiring Miller and Christian to strand Joey at first, ending the inning.

Jack Shack quickly tied things up in the bottom of the first. Adam led off with a triple, and when Miller got Josh D to ground out for the first out of the inning, Adam scored to tie the game at 1-1. Miller then retired Brian to end the inning.

Brett doubled with one out in the top of the second, but Brian retired Joey to strand him, ending the inning.

Miller rolled through the bottom of the second, retiring Turbo and Doc in order, and the game remained tied at 1-1.

Cheap Goats took a big lead in the top of the third. Miller doubled, and he moved to third when Christian followed with a single. Brian struck out Dinger for the first out of the inning, but Brett followed with an RBI double, scoring Miller to give Cheap Goats a 2-1 lead. The next batter, Joey, emptied the bases, and his three-run homer extended the Cheap Goats lead to 5-1. Miller followed with a double, and Jack Shack made a call to the bullpen, replacing Brian with Adam. Adam retired the first batter he faced, Christian, stranding Miller at second to end the inning.

Jack Shack narrowed the deficit in the bottom of the third. With one out, Josh D laced a solo homer to right-center, cutting the score to 5-2. Brian followed with a double, but Miller stranded him at second, retiring Turbo to end the inning.

Adam cruised through the top of the fourth, retiring Dinger and Brett in order.

Jack Shack cut further into the Cheap Goats lead in the bottom of the fourth. Doc led off with a double, and Adam drove him in with an RBI triple that made the score 5-3. Miller got Josh D to ground out for the first out of the inning, but Adam scored from third on the play, and Jack Shack trailed 5-4. Brian followed with a one-out double, but Jack Shack couldn’t tie the game. Miller retired Turbo to strand Brian at second, ending the inning.

Adam continued to pitch effectively in the top of the fifth, retiring Joey and Miller in order.

Miller matched him in the bottom of the fifth, sending Doc and Adam down consecutively.

Up 5-4, Cheap Goats added insurance runs in the top of the sixth. Christian led off with a double, and two batters later, Brett hit a two-run homer to right-center, putting Cheap Goats ahead 7-4. Brian retired Joey to end the inning, and Jack Shack trailed by three heading into their final at-bat.

Miller remained on the mound to close things out for Cheap Goats, and after retiring Josh D, he allowed a one-out triple to Brian. The rally would end there, however, as Miller retired Turbo to strand Brian at second, giving Cheap Goats a 7-4 win.

The win gave Cheap Goats a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five first round series.

Guacamol-yay Defeat Shady Characters 4-2 to Stay Alive and Extend Series

With their backs against the wall, Guacamol-yay extended their 2021 season, beating Shady Characters 4-2 in game three, forcing a fourth game in the best-of-five series. Jan, Sean, and Kyle each had two hits, Ryan went deep, and Josh K pitched a complete game win, as Guacamol-yay lived to fight another day.

Shady Characters took an early lead in the top of the first. Dylan led off with a single, and two batters later, Jason hit an RBI double, scoring Dylan to put Shady Characters ahead 1-0. Josh K then retired Lucas to strand Jason, ending the inning.

Guacamol-yay bounced back in the bottom of the first. Lucas, Shady Characters’ starter, allowed a leadoff single to Jan. Two batters later, Sean hit a two-run homer, putting Guacamol-yay in front 2-1. Kyle followed with a single, but Lucas stranded him, retiring Jude to end the inning.

Shady Characters threatened in the top of the second, but Josh K escaped a jam. He allowed a one-out single to Mike, and Jason followed with a double, putting two runners in scoring position. Josh K buckled down, however, retiring Lucas to strand both runners, ending the inning.

Lucas rolled through the bottom of the second, retiring Ryan and Jan in order, and the score remained 2-1.

Shady Characters evened the score in the top of the third when Dylan led off the inning with a solo homer. Josh K retired the next two batters, Mike and Jason, and the game was tied at 2-2.

Lucas escaped a jam in the bottom of the third. Sean singled with one out and moved to second when Kyle followed with a single. Guacamol-yay had two on and one out, but Lucas avoided damage, retiring Jude to strand both runners, ending the inning.

Josh K allowed a one-out double to Dylan in the top of the fourth, but stranded him, retiring Mike to end the inning, and the score remained 2-2.

Guacamol-yay pulled ahead in the bottom of the fourth. Ryan led off the inning with a solo homer, making the score 3-2. Jan doubled, and Josh K followed with an RBI single, scoring Jan from second to give Guacamol-yay a 4-2 lead. Lucas then struck out Sean and retired Kyle to strand Josh K at first, but Guacamol-yay now led by two runs.

Josh K cruised through the top of the fifth, retiring Jason and Lucas in order.

Lucas got back on track in the bottom of the fifth, retiring Jude and Ryan in order, and Shady Characters trailed by two runs heading into the sixth.

Josh K stayed on the mound to close things out for Guacamol-yay, and he made quick work of Shady Characters. He retired Dylan and struck out Mike, ending the game and giving Guacamol-yay a 4-2 win.

The win staved off elimination for Guacamol-yay, and Shady Characters leads the best-of-five series 2-1.

Tom Hits Walk-Off Homer for Second Consecutive Game to Give Shady Characters 4-3 Win Over Guacamol-yay and Commanding 2-0 Series Lead

For the second consecutive game Guacamol-yay outplayed Shady Characters, and for the second consecutive game, Shady Characters hung around just long enough for Tom to come to the plate with the game on the line. After ending game one with a dramatic three-run walk-off homer, Tom did it again, hitting a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth to walk Shady Characters off with a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five first round series. Tom became the second player in league history to hit walk-off home runs in back-to-back playoff games, putting his squad a win away from clinching a Wiffle Series berth.

Tom started for Shady Characters with only one inning of eligibility left for the week, and he made the most of it. After allowing a one-out single to Jude, he stranded him, retiring Josh K to end the inning.

Josh K started on the mound for Guacamol-yay, and after only getting five hits off of him in six-plus innings of game one, their first four batters reached base safely in game two. Dylan led off with a double, but when Mike followed with a single, Dylan was thrown out trying to score at home. Tom followed with a single, scoring Mike from first, and Shady Characters led 1-0. Jason then doubled, putting two runners in scoring position with no outs. Josh K avoided further damage though, retiring Lucas to strand both runners, ending the inning.

Guacamol-yay evened up the score in the top of the second. Sean led off with a double, and two batters later, Kyle hit an RBI triple to tie the game at 1-1. Lucas, who had relieved Tom on the mound, retired Jude to strand Kyle at third, ending the inning.

Shady Characters pulled back in front in the bottom of the second when Mike hit a one-out solo homer to right, making the score 2-1. Tom followed with a single, but Josh K stranded him, retiring Jason to end the inning.

Lucas retired the side in order in the top of the third, sending Josh K and Sean down consecutively.

Josh K had reached his innings limit, and Jude came to the mound in the bottom of the third. He retired Lucas and struck out Dylan, as the score remained 2-1.

Jan doubled to lead off the top of the fourth, putting the tying run in scoring position. Lucas escaped the inning, however, retiring Kyle and Jude to strand Jan at second, ending the inning.

Shady Characters extended their lead in the bottom of the fourth. Mike led off with a single, and two batters later, Jason hit a one-out double to score Mike. Jason was caught out trying to extend the hit into a triple, ending the inning, but Shady Characters now led 3-1.

Josh K singled to start the top of the fifth, but when Sean lined out to center for the first out of the inning, Josh K was doubled up at first, ending the inning.

Jude retired the side in order in the bottom of the fifth, and Guacamol-yay trailed 3-1 heading into their final at-bat.

Jan doubled to lead off the top of the sixth, putting the tying run at the plate. Kyle launched a two-run bomb to right-center, tying the game at 3-3. Lucas then retired Jude and Josh K to end the inning.

Jude retired Mike for the first out in the bottom of the sixth, and Guacamol-yay was one out from sending the second consecutive game of the series to extra innings, but Tom had other ideas. With the game tied at 3-3, he hit a solo shot to right-center, and his walk-off homer gave Shady Characters a 4-3 win in game two.

The win gave Shady Characters a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series with Guacamol-yay, one win away from advancing to the Wiffle Series for the first time since 2019.

Jack Shack Storm Back to Even Series Against Cheap Goats with 7-3 Game Two Win

All four Jack Shack players scored, Brian homered twice, and Turbo drove in three runs as Jack Shack won game two of their first round series with Cheap Goats 7-3. After scoring only a single run in game one, the Jack Shack offense responded, scoring runs in every inning but one. Cheap Goats rallied late led by Joey and Brett, but it was too little too late, and the best-of-five first round series is tied at one game apiece.

Dinger started on the mound for Cheap Goats, and he got into trouble early. After retiring Adam to start the game, he allowed a one-out double to Josh. Turbo followed with an inside-the-park homer fueled by Cheap Goats throwing errors, and Jack Shack led 2-0. Brian followed with a solo homer, and the back-to-back homers made the score 3-0. Cheap Goats made a quick change at the mound, bringing Christian in from the bullpen. He retired the first batter he faced, Adam, ending the inning.

Brian started for Jack Shack, and after allowing a leadoff double to Brett, he retired Joey and Miller, stranding Brett at second, ending the inning.

Christian retired the side in order in the top of the second, sending Josh D and Turbo down consecutively.

Brian matched him in the bottom of the second, retiring Jordan and Christian in order.

Cheap Goats threatened in the bottom of the third, but Brian worked his way out of a jam. Brett singled with one out, and he moved from first to third when Joey followed with a double. Cheap Goats had two runners in scoring position, but Brian retired Miller, stranding both runners and maintaining the four-run lead.

Adam doubled to start the top of the fourth, and he scored from second when Josh D grounded out to right for the first out of the inning. Christian then retired Turbo to end the inning, and Jack Shack was in front 5-0.

Brian had reached his innings limit for the week, and Adam replaced in on the mound in the bottom of the fourth. Christian singled with one out, and he moved from first to third when Dinger followed with a double. Cheap Goats once again had two runners in scoring position, and once again, Brian escaped. He retired Brett to end the inning, leaving two runners on, and Jack Shack continued to lead by five runs.

Brian led off the top of the fifth with a solo shot to left, putting Jack Shack ahead 6-0. Christian retired the next two batters, Adam and Josh D, ending the inning.

Cheap Goats would get on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Joey led off the inning with a double, and Miller followed with an RBI single, scoring Joey from second to make the score 6-1. Adam retired the next two batters, Jordan and Christian, stranding Miller at first and ending the inning.

Jack Shack added one final insurance run in the top of the seventh. Turbo led off with a double, and scored from second when Brian grounded out for the first out of the inning. Christian retired Adam to end the inning, and Cheap Goats trailed 7-1.

Dinger led off the bottom of the sixth with a single, and he moved from first to third when Brett followed with a single. Joey also singled, scoring Dinger from third, and the Jack Shack lead was cut to 7-2. Adam retired Miller for the first out of the inning, and Brett scored on the play, making the score 7-3. The Cheap Goats rally would end there, as Adam retired Jordan for the second out of the inning, stranding Joey at second, and giving Jack Shack a 7-3 win.

The win evened the best-of-five series at one game each heading into game three.

Tom’s Walk-Off Three-Run Homer Lifts Shady Characters to Surprising Game One Victory Over Guacamol-yay

Guacamol-yay was the better team for six and a half innings in game one of their best-of-five first round series, but Shady Characters hung around, stranded Guacamol-yay runners, and in the bottom of the seventh, walked off with a win when Tom hit a three-run bomb to end it. Despite getting out-hit eight to three heading into the bottom of the seventh, Shady Characters escaped game one with a win and took an early lead in the first round series.

Tom took the mound for Shady Characters, and he got out of trouble early and often. After allowing a leadoff double to Kyle, Jude hit a sacrifice fly, moving Kyle to third with one out. Tom stranded him, however, retiring Josh K to end the inning.

Josh K started for Guacamol-yay and he was in command. He retired Dylan and Mike in order in the bottom of the first.

Sean led off the top of the second with a single, but Tom retired the next two batters, Jan and Kyle, stranding him and ending the inning.

Josh K rolled through the bottom of the second, retiring Tom and Jason in order.

Guacamol-yay took the lead in the top of the third. Jude led off with a double, and Josh K drove him in with an RBI double, putting Guacamol-yay in front 1-0. The next batter, Sean, hit a single, putting runners on first and second with no outs. Tom got Jan to fly out for the first out of the inning, and when Kyle followed with a single, Josh K was pegged out at home, ending the inning, as Guacamol-yay managed to strand three runners in the inning.

Josh K once again cruised in the bottom of the third, sending Lucas and Dylan down consecutively.

Jude led off the top of the fourth with a single, but Tom stranded his sixth runner of the game so far, retiring Josh K and Sean to end the inning, and the score remained 1-0.

Josh K retired Mike and Tom in order, and he had retired the first eight batters of the game without allowing a baserunner.

Kyle singled with one out in the top of the fifth, but Guacamol-yay couldn’t add an insurance run. Tom retired Jude to strand Kyle at first, ending the inning.

Shady Characters broke up the no-hitter and tied the game in the bottom of the fifth. Lucas hit a one-out single, ending Josh K’s no-hit bit, which had made it nine hitters into the game. Dylan followed with an RBI triple, scoring Lucas, and the game was tied at 1-1. Josh K retired Mike to end the inning, stranding Dylan at third, and the game was even heading into the sixth.

After allowing at least one hit in each of the first five innings, Tom retired the side in order in the top of the sixth, sending Josh K and Sean down consecutively.

Jason doubled with one out in the bottom of the sixth, putting the winning run in scoring position. Josh K escaped, however, retiring Lucas to strand the runner, sending the game to extra-innings.

Tom continued to pitch effectively into the extra-innings, retiring Jan and Kyle in order in the top of the seventh.

Josh K remained on the mound for Guacamol-yay in the extra innings as well. He allowed a leadoff double to the first batter he faced, Dylan, putting the winning run in scoring position. Despite holding him hitless in his first three at-bats, MVP candidate Mike was intentionally walked, putting runners on first and second with outs. Tom came to the plate, and he launched a three-run homer to deep right-center field, and his walkoff shot ended the game, giving Shady Characters the 4-1 victory.

The win put Shady Characters ahead 1-0 in the best-of-five first round series with Guacamol-yay.
