Alec Goes 5-for-5 and Jan Hits for Cycle as Guac Boys Top Jack Shack 11-1

After a disappointing performance in their first game of the 2024 season, the Guac Boys responded against Jack Shack, picking up their first win. Alec went 5-for-5 with five extra-base hits including a double, two triples, two homers, four runs scored, and two RBI, and Jan went 4-for-4 completing the cycle with a two-run homer in the fourth inning.

Bohn started on the mound for Guac Boys, and he allowed a leadoff homer to Josh to start the game, as Jack Shack pulled ahead 1-0. Jacob followed with a single, but when the next batter, Ryan, grounded out, Jacob was doubled up, ending the inning.

Ryan started for Jack Shack, and he also allowed a leadoff homer in the bottom of the first, as Alec went deep to start the game for the Guac Boys. Form then doubled, and two batters later, Jan hit a one-out triple, scoring Form to put Guac Boys ahead 2-1. Bohn then hit a two-run homer, and Guac Boys were in front 4-1. Alec tripled, but Ryan avoided further damage, retiring Form to strand the runner at third, ending the inning.

Bohn struck out the side for the second time in his wiffle career, fanning Jon and Chris in the top of the second.

Jan hit a one-out single in the bottom of the second, but Ryan stranded him, retiring Bohn to end the inning, and the score remained 4-1.

Bohn had reached his innings limit for week 1, and Guac Boys brought Jan to the mound. The first batter he faced, Josh, doubled, but Jan retired Jaob and Ryan to strand the runner at second, ending the inning.

Alec led off the bottom of the third with a double, and he scored from second when Form grounded out to center for the first out of the inning. Ryan retired Tone to end the inning, and Guac Boys led 5-1.

Jan struck out Jon to start the top of the fourth and then retired Chris to end the inning, maintaining Guac Boys four-run lead.

Guac Boys opened up an insurmountable lead in the bottom of the fourth. Jan led off the inning with a double, and Bohn followed with his second two-run homer of the game, putting Guac Boys ahead 7-1. Alec the homered, and the back-to-back jacks made the score 9-1. Form doubled, and two batters later, Jan hit a two-run homer, completing the cycle for the second time in his career and giving Guac Boys a 10-1 lead. Ryan retired Bohn to end the inning, and Jack Shack trailed by nine runs.

Jan continued to roll in the top of the fifth, retiring Josh and Jacob in order.

Guac Boys added a final insurance run in the bottom of the fifth. Alec led off with a triple, and he scored from third when Form grounded out for the first out of the inning. Ryan retired Tone to end the inning, and Jack Shack were behind 11-1 heading into the sixth.

Jan remained on the mound to close things out in the top of the sixth, and he made quick work of Jack Shack. He retired Ryan and struck out Jon, ending the inning and the game, giving Guac Boys an 11-1 victory.

The win moved Guac Boys to 1-1 on the season, and the loss dropped Jack Shack to 0-2.

Thomas Breaks EWL Single-Game Record with Six Home Runs as Shady Characters Demolish Cheap Goats 21-12

In only his second career game, Shady Characters’ rookie Thomas broke the single-game regular season record for home runs, launching his sixth home run in his eighth and final at-bat, surpassing the long-standing record of five home runs held by Ivan, Joey, Bob, Blose, Jason, and Miller. Tom also had an enormous game, going 8-for-9 with what would have been a record-tying five home runs, including a grand slam, as Shady Characters unloaded a historic offensive explosion, routing Cheap Goats 21-12.

Tom took the mound for Shady Characters, and the first batter he faced, Joey, hit a leadoff homer, putting Cheap Goats ahead 1-0. Courtlen followed with a single, and Christian drove him in with a two-run homer to right, giving Cheap Goats a 3-0 lead. Tom then retired Dinger and Daniel to end the inning, and Shady Characters trailed by three runs.

Dinger started for Cheap Goats, and the first batter he faced, Tom, also hit leadoff homer, cutting the Cheap Goats lead to 3-1. Two batters later, Lucas hit a one-out single, and Thomas followed with a two-run homer to right-center, tying the game at 3-3. Dinger retired Tom for the second out of the inning, and the game was tied at 3-3.

Cheap Goats continued to hit Tom hard in the top of the second. Joey led off with a double, and he moved to third when Courtlen followed with a single. Christian cleared the bases with his second bomb of the game, a three-run shot that put Cheap Goats ahead 6-3. Two batters later, Daniel doubled, and he scored from second when Joey followed with an RBI double that made the score 7-3. Courtlen then launched a two-run homer to right, and the Cheap Goats lead was 9-3. Christian doubled, but Tom escaped further damage, retiring Dinger for the second out of the inning.

Cheap Goats had put nine runs on the board through two, but the wheels fell off in the bottom of the second. Shady Characters delivered a historic inning, tying the EWL record for most runs scored in an inning. Nate led off the inning with a single, and he moved to second when Lucas singled. Thomas then singled, loading the bases for Tom. Tom cleared the bases with a grand slam, becoming only the sixth player in EWL history to hit one in the regular season, and the blast cut the score to 9-7. Nate doubled, and he moved to third when Lucas followed with a single. With no outs and runners on the corners, Thomas hit a three-run homer, putting Shady Characters ahead 10-9. Cheap Goats pulled Dinger from the mound, replacing him with Christian. The first batter he faced, Tom, followed with a solo shot, his second homer of the inning, and the back-to-back bombs put Shady Characters in front 11-9. Christian retired Nate for the first out of the inning after Shady Characters had reached base safely in eight consecutive at-bats, scoring eight runs. Christian then allowed a solo homer to Lucas, extending the Shady Characters lead to 12-9. Thomas followed with his second homer of the inning, and the second pair of back-to-back homers in the second inning put Shady Characters ahead 13-9. Tom doubled, and Nate followed with a two-run homer, pushing the Shady Characters lead to 15-9. Lucas then homered, and the third pair of back-to-back jacks gave Shady Characters a 16-9 lead. Cheap Goats made their second pitching change of the inning, bringing Courtlen in for his first career pitching appearance. The first batter he faced, Thomas, hit his third homer of the inning and fourth of the game, a solo shot that pushed the score to 17-9. Tom followed with his third home run of the second inning, and Shady Characters fourth homer in as many at-bats, which made the score 18-9. Courtlen finally recorded the second out of the inning, retiring Nate to end a disastrous inning for Cheap Goats. In total Shady Characters had scored 15 runs, tying the single-inning record, hit nine home runs, including three home run streaks topping out at four consecutive homers, and a grand slam.

Tom singled, and Nate followed with a single, putting runners on the corners. Courtlen avoided another massive inning, retiring Lucas to strand both runners, ending the inning.

Dinger singled to start the top of the fourth, and two batters later, Joey drove him in with an RBI double, making the score 19-10. Lucas then retired Courlen for the second out of the inning.

Tom singled with one-out in the bottom of the fourth, but for the first time in the game, Shady Characters had a scoreless inning, as Courtlen retired Nate to strand the runner, and the score remained 19-10.

Christian led off the top of the fifth with a solo homer, cutting the Cheap Goats deficit to 19-11. Two batters later, Daniel hit his first career homer, a solo shot that made the score 19-12. Lucas then retired Joey to end the inning.

Courtlen retired Lucas to start the bottom of the fifth, and Thomas came to the plate in what would likely be his final at-bat of the game with a chance to break the single-game home run record. He did exactly that, launching a homer to deep left-center, his sixth of the game. In only his second career game, he had broken a record that had stood for twelve years, and stands alone among home run hitters in EWL history. Tom followed with a solo homer, and the fourth pair of back-to-back homers for Shady Characters in the game gave them a 21-12 lead. Nate singled, but Courtlen stranded him, retiring Lucas to end the inning with Cheap Goats trailing by nine runs.

Courtlen doubled to start the top of the sixth, but Cheap Goats wouldn’t threaten further. Lucas retired Christian and Dinger to strand the runner at second, ending the inning and the game, giving Shady Characters a 21-12 win.

The win moved Shady Characters to 2-0 on the season, and the loss dropped Cheap Goats to 1-1.

Courtlen’s Walk-Off Homer in First Career Game Caps Cheap Goats Dramatic 4-3 Win Over Jack Shack

Courtlen homered in his first career at-bat and later capped his first ever EWL game with a walk-off solo homer in the bottom of the sixth giving Cheap Goats a 4-3 win over Jack Shack

Playing in the first game of his wiffle career, EWL rookie Courtlen went deep in his first at-bat, and later hit a walk-off solo homer in the bottom of the sixth to give Cheap Goats a 4-3 win in their season opener against Jack Shack. Jon pitched effectively, holding Cheap Goats to four combined hits, and Josh had a triple and two home runs to lead Jack Shack on offense, but Cheap Goats had just enough, and they walked off with a win to start their 2024 campaign.

Christian took the mound for Cheap Goats, and the first batter he faced in the 2024 season, Josh, went deep for a leadoff homer to start the game and Jack Shack season. Christian retired EWL rookie Jacob and Ryan to end the inning, and Jack Shack led 1-0.

Jon started for Jack Shack, and he retired Joey before striking out Christian to end the bottom of the first.

Christian retired Jon and Chris in order in the top of the second, and Jon matched him in the bottom of the second, as the score remained 1-0 through two innings.

Jack Shack extended their lead in the top of the third. Josh led off with a triple, and Jacob followed with an RBI single, scoring Josh, and Jack Shack led 2-0. Christian retired Ryan and Jon to strand Jacob at first, and Cheap Goats trailed by two runs.

Christian retired Chris and Josh in order in the top of the fourth, and Jon matched him in the bottom half of the inning, sending Dinger and Daniel down consecutively.

Ryan hit a one-out single in the top of the fifth, and Jon followed with a single, putting two runners on. Christian escaped the jam, however, retiring Chris to strand both runners, ending the inning.

Down 2-1, Cheap Goats rallied in the bottom of the fifth. Joey hit a one-out double, and Christian followed with a two-run bomb to right, giving Cheap Goats their first lead of the game. Jon retired Dinger to end the inning, and Cheap Goats had taken a 3-2 lead.

The lead didn’t last long. Josh led off the top of the sixth with his second homer of the game, a solo shot that tied the score at 3-3. Christian retired Jacob and Ryan to end the inning, and the game was knotted at 3-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

Jon retired Daniel to start the bottom of the sixth, and Jack Shack was an out away from sending the game to extra innings. Courtlen had other ideas, however, and he launched a solo homer to deep right-center, ending the game. His walk-off homer gave Cheap Goats a dramatic 4-3 come-from-behind win.

The win moved Cheap Goats to 1-0 on the season, and the loss dropped Jack Shack to 0-1.

Tom Goes 5-for-5 and Pitches Gem to Squash Guac Boys 7-1 in Season Opener

Tom went five-for-five at the plate and was in control on the mound as Shady Characters beat Guac Boys 7-1 in the 2024 EWL season opener

The three-time defending champions came into the 2024 season down two of their most iconic players, but they picked up right where they left off in 2023, defeating the Guac Boys 7-1 in a rematch of the 2023 Wiffle Series. Tom pitched a complete game win, allowing one run on six hits, and he went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate, with two singles, three doubles, two runs scored, and two RBI. Nate and Thomas, making his first career appearance, also homered, and the champs started their title defense campaign with a win.

Tom took the mound, and he retired the Guac Boys in order in the top of the first, sending Alec and Form down in order.

Bohn started for the Guac Boys, and he fell behind early. Tom led off the game with a single, and Nate followed with a two-run homer, putting Shady Characters up 2-0. Bohn settled down, retiring Lucas and striking out Thomas to end the inning.

Guac Boys got on the board in the top of the second. Jan hit a one-out double, and Bohn drove him in with an RBI double, cutting the Shady Characters lead in half, 2-1. Tom then retired Alec to strand Bohn at second, ending the inning.

Form started the top of the third with a single, but Guac Boys couldn’t advance him. Tom retired Tone and Jan to strand Form at first, ending the inning.

Shady Characters added to their lead in the bottom of the third. Thomas doubled to start the inning, and Tom followed with a single, putting runners on the corners with no outs. Bohn got Nate to ground out to center for the first out of the inning, but Thomas scored on the play, making the score 3-1. Bohn then retired Lucas to strand Tom at first, ending the inning.

Shady Characters pulled away in the bottom of the fourth. Thomas led off the inning with his first career home run, a solo shot that made the score 4-1. Tom doubled, and he moved to third when Nate followed with a single. Lucas singled, scoring Tom, and Shady Characters led 5-1. Two batters later, Tom hit a one-out RBI double, clearing the bases, and the Shady Characters lead was 7-1. Bohn retired Nate for the second out of the inning, and Guac Boys trailed by six runs.

Ton hit a one-out triple in the top of the fifth, but Tom stranded another Guac Boys runner, retiring Jan to end the inning, and the score remained 7-1.

Bohn retired Lucas and Thomas in the bottom of the fifth, and the Guac Boys were down six heading into the sixth inning.

Tom retired Bohn for the first out in the top of the sixth before allowing back-to-back singles to Alec and Form. The Guac Boys were threatening with two on, but Tom stranded two more runners. He retired Tone for the second out of the inning, ending the game and giving Shady Characters a 7-1 win.

The win moved Shady Characters to 1-0 on the season, and the loss dropped the Guac Boys to 0-1.

2024 Wiffleball Season Begins!

Tom K, captain of three-time defending champions Shady Characters, throws the ceremonial first pitch of the 2024 EWL season to EWL commissioner Joey. The 14th season of the Ellsworth Wiffleball League started on Tuesday, May 7th, with Shady Characters, the Guac Boys, Cheap Goats, and Jack Shack all returning to vie for the 2024 Wiffle Series Championship.
