Chris Scatters Two Hits in 6-1 Victory Over Pumice on Slow!

The Dentists celebrate at home after a Marr solo homer in a 6-1 win over Pumice on Slow!

Pumice on Slow! managed only two hits, not scoring until their final at-bat, as 4 out of 5 Dentists cruised to a 6-1 win.

Chris, who has been mowing through EWL lineups in 2011, started on the mound for the Dentists and picked up where he left off in week 7. He struck out John to start the game, the retired Gaurav to end the first.

John, who has had two prior relief appearances for Pumice!, made his first career start against the Dentists in week 8. He retired Ron and Chris in order in the bottom of the first, and the score was 0-0 through one inning.

Chris kept his momentum, retiring Mo Vaughn and John in the second.

John got Spads to fly out to start the inning, but the Dentists struck first in the bottom of the second, as Marr hit a one out solo homer, making the score 1-0. Ron singled with out out, but was stranded at first when Chris grounded out to end the inning.

Gaurav and Mo Vaughn each grounded out in the top of the third, and Chris was perfect through three innings.

The Dentists went to work in the bottom of the third, as Spads led off the inning with a single. He moved to second when Marr followed with a single of his own. With no outs and two runners on, Ron grounded out to center field, but Spads scored from second on the play extending the score to 2-0. Marr advanced to second, but was stranded in scoring position when Chris grounded out to end the third.

Up two runs, Chris remained perfect in the top of the fourth, retiring John and Gaurav in order.

Spads led off the bottom of the fourth with a triple, and scored when Marr hit a single, making the score 3-0. Marr advanced to second on a Ron groundout, but couldn’t advance further, as John retired Chris to end the fourth.

Chris retired Vaughn to start the fifth, but John broke up the perfect game attempt by hitting a single with one out. Chris tied the record for carrying a perfect game furthest into a game, at 4.5 innings. The hit ruined the no-hitter, but Chris retired Gaurav to end the inning and maintain the shutout through five innings.

Spads started the bottom of the fifth with a double and was a homer away from the cycle. Marr grounded out for the first out of the inning, but Spads scored from second on the play, making the score 4-0. With one out, Ron singled, and scored when Chris followed with a two-run bomb, extending the Dentists’ lead to 6-0. Approaching the cycle, Spads came to the plate needing a homer, but struck out to end the inning.

Up six runs, Chris gave up a solo homer to Vaughn to lead off the top of the sixth, making the score 6-1 and foiling his shutout attempt. But he retired John and Gaurav in order to end the game, moving to 6-0 on the mound for the year.
