
One of Joey’s two homers came in the top of the 7th, when Cookies hit four home runs to pull away from the Ham Slams
After struggling at the plate for six innings, Cookies & Cream hit four homers in the top of the seventh as they pulled away from the Ham Slams in a 7-2 victory.
The Ham Slams started their ace, Charlie, who would face off against Dinger for Cookies & Cream in what would be a pitcher’s duel for six innings.
Charlie retired the side in order in the top of the first. Dinger gave up hits to the game’s first two batters, Steve and Josh, and it looked like the Slams would get on the board early. However, with runners on second and third, Dinger struck out the side to get out of the inning without allowing a run.
Charlie and Dinger each rolled through the second to maintain a scoreless tie. They continued to take advantage of a windy day, pitching scoreless fames in the third.
Both teams would get on the board in the fourth. Dinger led off the inning with a single and moved from first to third on a one-out Les single. The next batter, Joey, drove in the game’s first run on a RBI single, putting Cookies ahead 1-0. Charlie stopped the damage their though, stranding two runners to end the inning.
The Slams evened the game quickly in the bottom of the fourth, when Josh hit a one-out solo shot to tie the game at 1-1.
After both teams went scoreless in the fifth, Cookies would pull ahead for a second time in the top of the sixth. Joey led off the inning with a solo homer, making the score 2-1. Charlie would retire the next two batters, and the Slams would trail by a run heading into the bottom of the sixth.
Dinger retired the first batter, Steve, and Cookies were one out away from a a victory when Josh came to the plate. For the second time in the game, this time in more dramatic fashion, Josh crushed the ball over the left-center field fence, tying the game at 2-2. The Slams couldn’t extend the inning to win the game, and it would go to extras.
Charlie had been in control all game, but the wheels came off in the top of the seventh. The first batter, Vassallo, crushed a solo shot to left, putting Cookies ahead 3-2. After a Les single, Joey hit a two-run bomb, and the score was 5-2. Guthrie followed with a solo shot, and the back-to-back bombs made the score 6-2. Vassallo would later hit his second homer of the inning, and Cookies would head into the bottom of the seventh ahead 7-2.
Dinger cruised through the bottom of the seventh, allowing a single to Adam but no runs, giving Cookies & Cream the win.
The win was the first for Cookies & Cream in 2015, moving them to 1-2. The loss dropped the Ham Slams to 0-3.
