Ivan Named Week 4 PBR Wiffler of the Week

In week 4 the Fish Sticks scored 32 runs over their two games, and they were led by Ivan, who was voted the Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week for the fourth week of the 2012 EWL season.

In a 15-3 win over Downtown Bobby Brown, Ivan went 5 for 8, falling a single short of the cycle with 2 doubles, a triple, 2 homers, while scoring 5 runs and collecting 3 RBI. He also made his first career pitching appearance, throwing a scoreless inning and recording a strikeout.

Ivan’s second game was even more impressive, as he led the Sticks to a 17-8 romp over the Caucasians. He went 7 for 9 with 3 singles, 3 doubles, and a home run, scored 6 runs, and drove in 4 runs. His 3 doubles tied a single-game league record. He was pounded hard in 1/2 inning of relief pitching, and made a putout in the field.

His outstanding performance at the plate moved him to the top of the league leaders in batting average and runs scored. In 17 at-bats he hit .706 for the week, scoring 11 runs in only 2 games.

Ivan is the third rookie in four weeks of the EWL season to earn Wiffler of the Week honors, and is the first Fish Stick to claim the honor during the 2012 season.

Mark, of Downtown Bobby Brown, also received votes, as he went 8 for 10 with a double, 3 homers, 3 RBI and 6 runs scored in a win and a loss for his team in week 4, including a 5 for 5 performance in the win.

Guthrie Named Week 3 PBR Wiffler of the Week

After a record-breaking week that included the best single-game offensive display in league history, Guthrie was voted the Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week for the third week of the 2012 EWL season.

In the Caucasian’s first game, Guthrie pitched a complete game victory over the Ham Slams, giving up 5 runs on 8 hits, moving his record to 2-1 on the season. After getting off to a slow start at the plate in the 2012 season, this game was his launch pad. He went 3 for 6 with 2 singles, a homer, 2 runs scored, 3 RBI (including the game-winning RBI), and recorded a put-out in the field. The game was only a hint of what was to come in the night-cap.

Guthrie’s second game, against Downtown Bobby Brown, rewrote the EWL record book. In a 22-4 win, all of the Caucasians had great numbers, but Guthrie’s were remarkable. He went an amazing 9 for 10 at the plate, missing a perfect 10 for 10 by a foot at first base in his final at-bat. He scored 7 runs, and drove in another 7. He had 4 singles, 2 doubles, and 3 homers, and also had the game-winning RBI. He registered 2 put-outs.

Guthrie is the first EWL veteran (non-rookie) to win Wiffler of the Week in 2012. Guthrie was voted Wiffler of the Week twice in 2011; first in week 9 of the regular season and again in week 2 of the playoffs after pitching the only perfect game in league history. Guthrie was the 2011 EWL Pitch King and also was named to the 2011 All-EWL team.

Guthrie broke or tied the single-game records for hits, runs, RBI, and total bases in week 3.

Evan Named Week 2 PBR Wiffler of the Week

After giving up the game-winning homer in a painful loss to Downtown Bobby Brown, Evan bounced back to lead his team over the Fish Sticks, and was recently voted the Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week for the second week of the 2012 EWL season.

In the Ham Slams first game, Evan helped his squad jump out to an early lead, as he went 4 for 5 with a single, 2 doubles, a homer, 2 runs scored and an RBI. He was also solid on the mound, as he only gave up 1 run on 4 hits through the first 5 innings. Unfortunately, he gave up four consecutive hits, including the game-winning walk-off homer in the sixth inning he pitched, picking up the complete game loss. He also registered 2 putouts and struck out a batter in the game.

In the night cap, Evan helped the Slams storm back in the late innings to beat the Fish Sticks. He led them offensively, going 3 for 5 with a single, 2 doubles, a run scored, and an RBI. He also tallied 7 putouts in the field.

Evan is the second consecutive rookie to earn the PBR Wiffler of the Week honor.

He dominated the fan voting for Wiffler of the Week. Morrison, who had a monster week 2, came in second. For the week, he went 9 for 11 at the plate, leading the Caucasians to a blowout win over Bobby Brown. He also was the only player to show up offensively for the Caucasians against the Fish Sticks. He recorded 6 singles, a double, and 2 home runs in addition to 3 runs scored and 4 RBI. Defensively, he made 10 putouts over the two games.

Helal Named Week 1 PBR Wiffler of the Week

After a surprising offensive performance in week 1 in which he led his team to a win and a near shocking comeback, Helal has been voted the Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week for the first week of the 2012 EWL season.

Helal got off to a hot start to the season at the plate, establishing himself as a rookie of the year contender and scattering his name across the statistical league leaders. In his first EWL game, his three-run homer put Downtown Bobby Brown ahead for good against the Ham Slams. In the second game of week 1, he went 3 for 5 with a double and two home runs, with 5 RBI and 3 runs scored. He is tied for the league lead in homers with 3, and he leads the league in RBI with 8. He can also be found in the top 5 in runs scored, slugging %, doubles, and total bases.

Helal narrowly defeated Joey of the Fish Sticks and his teammate, Gaurav, in voting for the award. Joey went 8 for 10 in week 1 with 2 triples, 2 RBI, and a league leading 6 runs scored in addition to earning a win on the mound. Gaurav went 3 for 9 at the plate with a homer and 4 RBI and pitched a complete game gem in Downtown’s week 1 win.
